Where are all the baskets?!

I visit this branch of Tesco quite often... and every single time I have been in without fail, there are NO baskets at the front of the store... but strangely there are never any baskets piled up underneath tills either... you literally have to pounce on someone unloading theirs at the self service check out... not ideal!
I agree with other reviewers... you're lucky if you find everything you come in for... the fruit and veg was especially bad last time I went in... absolutely ZERO on the shelves!
Parking is good though... you don't have to pay.

Tesco

This is the biggest Tesco in the Brighton and Hove area but it's not one of my favourite one's in the country. I often stop here on my way home from work. Sometimes the fresh produce section is badly stocked. There aren't many baskets and they are all a bit old and skanky. The hot food from the deli has always run out by about half 5. I also don't like the big self checkouts.. ...not the basket ones... ...you have to send all your stuff off into the distance and pay before packing or pack it all and then leave it to go back and pay. Having said all of that this shop does have everything you need from a supermarket. The car park can be a nightmare with the entry and exit barriers.. ...you can always get out with the ticket regardless of whether you get it hole punched or pay or not. It really annoys me when the entry barrier is down causing queues but the exit one is up.

Frustrating

I won't be going back here after my last visit. I needed just a few things for the kids tea and spent more time trying to get into the car park and parking than wizzing round the store and paying.
I know it's Hove actually but I'm a bloke...in, out and away.
Get it sorted Tesco please and I'll consider dropping by again.

Avoid peak times

This is probably the best place for big food shops in Hove - the store is huge and seems to stock more variety than your normal Tesco. As I drive by here on my way home from work, I quite often pop in for bits. However, it's not the best place for 'popping' in - the barrier system is a nightmare and extremely confusing. I would suggest going later in the evening when there is less traffic & people, so you can spend some time rather than getting frustrated at every minor thing.

Steering wheel not always in action here!?

Tesco uses a business tool called the steering wheel to make sure they are doing everything possible to make the company successful. One of the areas on this wheel is "the customer should find what they need" - I'm afraid this is often not the case in this Tesco. It is a good size and the staff are friendly and efficient, but all too often it's shelves are empty - not good.

The one and only...

...'proper' supermarket in Hove really. Well the only one you can park at and get pretty much everything you need.
Jamie S is right...the barriers at the car park entrance can be a right pain in the arse but it seems someone with sense is now in charge of them and they remain open all the time. Of course the only problem with this is that non-shoppers park there and clog up the spaces. The bloody cheek of it.
They can run out of stuff so if you go after work of an evening don't be suprised if they don't have all of the veg you've carefully written on your list. They also seem to have the supply/demand equation on houmous all to cock. I'm a daily houmous consumer and there's nothing that vexes me more than an empty houmous shelf. Just not on.
Apart from that Tesco in Hove serves me well...and I'm now in the habit of using their green re-usable hessian bags so you won't find my plastic bags floating about on the landfill site.

Basket case

They seemed to have sorted out their rather bad basket situation - i.e: there never are any. Recently they've been a bit more fruitful on the basket front though which is good. They have a few individuals on the check outs who are always really friendly and familiar. As with most Tescos they always seem to run out of fresh herbs every time I need that. Why is that?!

A supermarket

This is the big Tesco in Hove, the biggest supermarket in the area and it's not bad. It usually has well stocked shelves unlike some of the other smaller Tesco stores in the area, the trolleys are usually there if you want them and the self service checkout is a nice option if you're in a hurry, unless a mother decides it would be fun to let her 4 year old scan the entire shopping list contents for a week.
The only annoying thing about this store is the car park barrier system. In over a year, not once have i got my car park ticket stamped or paid for parking. Regardless of how long you are in there, you won't be charged...sometimes the exit barriers are even open so you don't need to put the ticket in. Sometimes though the exit barriers are open but you are still forced to stop on entry and take a ticket. This causes traffic problems and at busy times can stretch onto the main road.
