How much?!

49p for a KitKat Chunky? You're having a giraffe surely??!
This branch of Martin's in Portslade is the closest 'convenience' store to my place of work so I don't have a lot of choice in the matter when in need but it is SO EXPENSIVE. They don't seem to have an awful lot of stock either and in the summer it gets so hot in there your choclate bar is a puddle before you even unwrap it.
On a brighter note...the nice girl that does the early shift is friendly and chatty...despite looking a little stressed most of the time. I can only imagine she doesn't see much of the massive profit they're making!

Handy for a pint of milk...

...or packet of lovehearts... but I agree with other reviewers... this newsagent is overpriced.
It's the only one near work so reasonably handy if we get short on milk.
Take full advantage of the 5 chocolate bars for £1 to ensure you get the most for your money.
If you want cigarettes, go to the Post Office 2 doors up, they are cheaper.

The death of the newsagent
14 May 08, 11:11
As expected
In the future we will regale our grandchildren of the days when there were newsagents on every corner and people used to buy newspapers (what you mean they weren't online?!) and sweets (what you mean they weren't illegal?) and fizzy drinks (what are they nanny!?)
The newsagent will soon be no more and Martin's is a perfect living (only just) example of the reason why!

The only one around sadly

Well below expectations
This newsagent is so incredibly overpriced it is ridiculous. It benefits from being one of the only newsagents in the area which is why they charge what they want. The drinks and food are over priced and everything else they sell tends to be a lot more expensive than you can normally find it.
The shop is always stuffy and the staff are ignorant, barely mustering a hello or thank you half the time. Even worse, some of them have a tendancy to follow you round the store with their eyes which makes me feel uneasy.
If they had competition in the area then it might force them to drop their prices.

Expensive!

This is one of the most expensive newsagents I have ever been in. Their cans of drink are over 70p and don't get me started on the crisps! There is hardly any choice, with very basic ranges of crisps and chocolate. The staff are reasonably friendy, although you're lucky if you get a grunt out of the lad who works there afternoons, he's too engrossed in the music he blares out constantly! There's absolutely no healthy options snacks wise and about the only thing worth buying is a paper!
