The Talisman

Really great food, friendly staff and a nice relaxed environment. You can now book a table which is much better than the previous system of going along and hoping for the best!

A Great Place to Enjoy Company

16 Jun 08, 15:26 5* Beyond expectations

The Talisman has to be one of the best pubs around for mixing with friends, excellent food and atmosphere. As you enter the premises you feel at ease and the surroundings are cosy, yet you don't feel like you're sitting on your neighbouring table's lap!! The background music is great and at just at the right level, without drowning out your conversation.... The food is excellent, affordable, good value for money and is always presented quickly and efficiently by the ever helpful young and attractive staff.. There is also a large selection of quality wines, which always helps when entertaining!! I have been visiting the Talisman for a few years now and taken many friends (and dates) there and I have always left feeling that I have had enjoyed every minute of it... Even the toilets have old Blackadder and Two Ronnies sketches piped through them, which can make it sometimes difficult to explain why you've taken so long in the loo!!! I thoroughly recommend The Talisman in Park Gate and challenge anyone not to enjoy themselves there....

great food and beer garden

Without a doubt this is a favourite within the area. Nothing beats a lunchtime down at the tali and to finish it off end of day drinks.

Great Experience inside and out.

05 May 08, 23:52 4* Above expectations

The Talisman is a popular choice for lunch and after-work drinks for all the offices in and around Park Gate and the Segensworths.

Unsurprising really, considering the large beer garden (perfect for salad and a beer in the summer) and the real log fires inside (perfect for pie and beer in the winter!)... Loads of drink choice, and good quality food make this a great option whatever you're after.

Works favourite for lunch or a few evenings out after work. Good choice of lunch and evening food. Great selection of local beers and ale. With plenty of outside and inside seating.

Good all-rounder

21 Apr 08, 12:08 4* Above expectations

I don't live in the Park Gate area these days but whenever I'm visiting the family we usually end up at the Tali. It's a big pub with lots of character...plenty of room to park at the back too.

The best thing about the Talisman is the garden...lots of big chunky wooden tables and umbrellas surrounded by hedges and plants so when the sun's out it gets really warm. Their menu is excellent too...I suppose you'd call it a gastro-pub really. I'm a veggie and although there isn't a huge amount to choose from in terms of non-meat/fish based dishes what they do have on offer is always really good. I've never been disappointed anyway!

Inside the pub there are several different sections to sit and eat or drink in. Oh and roaring fires in the winter. There's a huge bar area for the Friday night hardcore...it does get really busy at weekends. But then in fairness there aren't really many good pubs in the area...the Tali does the job nicely.

Good selection of food & ale!

I love the Tanglefoot Ale pie which they sell at the Talisman.

Lovely food, both in the evening and at lunchtime. A large selection and a specials board if the menu doesn't take your fancy! Quite a few different ales as well.

Lovely in the summer

17 Apr 08, 15:39 4* Above expectations

The tali is a work lunch favourite, especially in the summer when you can sit in the beer garden. Lovely food, from lunch snacks to proper home cooked style meals. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and staff are friendly and polite. Service is very quick and pub is always cosy and clean. Packed on a Friday night, more drinking than eating, worth a visit.

Great for lunch or a relaxed after work drinks

17 Apr 08, 15:23 3* As expected

I've had many scrummy lunches at this lovely looking pub as well as the odd boozy evening after work. They have a simple menu but always offer a decent selection of specials ranging from Baked Dorset Tart to Slow Roasted Rump of Lamb. I would recommend this pub for 'pub grub' and drinks with friends

Pleasant with nice surroundings

17 Apr 08, 14:10 3* As expected

This is a very 'posh' looking pub from both the exterior and interior but overall is well worth a visit. It is not too overpriced drinks wise but some things on the menu can appear this way however you do get a lot for your money. The decor is great and provides for a great atmosphere. All in all, I would go here again.
