What a fab location

This is a fanatastic modernised old pub, with low beamed cellings and an inglenook fireplace. Outside there is a paved terrace and a garden. They serve Harvey's Sussex Bitter and some guest beers. They have a substantial menu, with daily specials on the blackboard. Really recommend this pub and there is a great walk around part of the South Downs way which you can do before or after.

Beautiful

Set in a great location, tucked away in the country side of Henfield, this pub is a real gem! A lovely outside area, good food and sunshine brings people here in masses. Sundays are a dream with a great roast being served.

Gorgeous Sunday Roasts

21 Apr 08, 18:38 3* As expected

This is a really beautiful little pub tucked away in the middle of Sussex. You really do need to drive to get to this pub, but it's well worth it...just try to get out of the driving so you can enjoy a tipple. We came here on a misty Sunday, and the chilly air added to the wonderful sirene atmosphere. The pub sit's next to a little stream that trickles along side the car park. This is probably a wonderful spot in the summer.

Perfect spot

21 Apr 08, 18:32 4* Above expectations

This is probably one of the nicest pubs in Sussex...in one of the nicest locations. It's at the foot of Devil's Dyke so is often full of walkers. For the lazy-arses amongst us (i.e. me) it's a really beautiful drive through the stunning Sussex countryside to get to it.

The pub itself is not that big so if the weather's bad you may have to wait for a table. That's no problem though...it's a lovely place to sit back and relax...and remember good things come to those who wait!

When it's nice there's plenty of seating in the garden and a little stream that runs by all adding to the idyllic setting. The scenery is quite breath-taking.

The food is excellent...a favourite of mine is the Sunday roast which they get just right. The only reason I haven't given The Shepherd & Dog 5 stars is because it is a little on the expensive side.
