As expected
This borders is great. People might not realise how busy Oxford can get evenin the non tourist seasons.
If it's hot outside then you head in here, pick up something that interests you and take it to the coffee shop. They have comfy chairs and you can lose an hour in here passing some time.

Basement of Borders, 9 Magdalen Street This is a franchise inside Borders but it is getting its own review because it is so good. The toys they sell are good and the staff are very good. They sell educational but fun stuff. They don't sell character toys or movie tie-ins. What they sell are craft kits, rock tumblers, kites and outdoor toys and lots of games that may have a hidden (or not so hidden) educational aim. They also sell educational software and will let you and your kids try it out and play on it for as long as you like. The staff are always helpful and they know their stock. They are also able to pick out the educational software that is suitable for your child.
Comfortable bookshop

9 Magdalen Street Great shop with lots of magazines on all sorts of subjects. If you want to start beading, take up woodwork or make your website look flashier then you'll find a magazine to help. There are of course lots of books but there 's also a coffee shop, music CDs, a Paperchase franchise and lots of comfy places to sit down and browse (though not as many as there used to be).
