1 review for Greyfriars Christian Centre

An oasis of peace.

04 Nov 07, 22:34 5* Beyond expectations

Greyfriars Christian Bookshop is situated at the front of the Greyfriars church entrance. It is an oasis of christian books and one could spend many hours just looking and browsing. It gete 5 stars for interest and peacefulness. Basically as you come into the reception area it is on the right hand side. There are racks of greeting cards in the shop, most with a spiritual message. I recently bought a sympathy card for someone bereaved here and was very please at the verses on the front. Most other shops have a poor selection of such cards and I was very happy with this as it said just what I wanted to say. There are many shelves and racks of books. Some hold different versions of the Bible and have Bible cases of different sizes which is very useful. There are also many books written by different people who have become christian and the stories are very varied. My favourite is the "Heavenly Man" about a chinese man who stood his ground and has tried to spread christianity in China. He was put in prison many times and nearly died of beatings. The stories are very interesting. There are also racks of books aimed at how to get the message to young people and the unchurched. Other christian effects cand be purchased here such as bookmarks, and various gifts such as fridge magnets and car stickers to name a few. There are also many cds of christian music for young and old. When you leave the shop, straight opposite there is a cafe. This is where you can sit down and have a coffee and a toastie which I sometimes do if shopping in town. There is an assortment of sandwiches, baked potatoes and a lovely selection of cakes to be bought here. I have also recently bought some homemade jam which was on sale for a few pounds. Every month there is also a time of prayer from 1.30 to 3.30pm. The bookshop and cafe can be found at Friar Street, Reading, Berkshire RG1 1EH and tel: 0118 951 6710/6703.
