Superb Local

Beyond expectations
The George in woodley is a fantactic local pub run by a very friendly land lord and land lady with great bar staff. They sell all the usual pub drinks and many more unusual beers, ales and wines. They also offer a fantastic restaurant with some of the best pub food I have tasted from light lunches to three course meals and a roast on Sundays. There is a specials board in addition to the normal menu so have a very wide choice available. Outside is a large garden which overlooks the river and the tables have umbrellas and heaters to suit every kind of weather. The atmoshere is relaxed and friendly and there is always someone you know down there. Children are welcome in the beer garden and the restaurant so its also geared to families. There is a very mixed aged group of cliental so everyone feels comfortable. There are log fires in the winters and pitchers of pimms in the summer. The george also has a large car park which is safe to leave your car in overnight if you decide to drink rather than drive. All in all I think is my favourite pub for a drink with girl friends, a Sunday roast with the kids or a quick bite to eat before going to the cinema next door.
Handy for the cinema

The George is just by the multiplex - it's a good pub with a big menu and great service. Gets very busy so if the car park looks full, you'll be lucky to get a seat, but it's worth a try if you've never been there before.

Good food from a chain...

As expected
The George might be part of the Chef and Brewer chain, but the food's good and menu pretty extensive.
Obviosuly a very popular pub, as you need to get there early on a Friday night if you want a table to eat and as its usually packed it can get a bit noisy!
You can sit outside in the summer - again it tends to be pretty busy at peak times.
And it's next to the Showcase Cinema, eat their first and you'll save yourself the extortionate price of popcorn at the cinema!
Cosy Sunday Roast

One of the best places in Reading for a great Sunday Roast in my opinion. It's got a typical cosy country pub feel and warm log fires in winter. The pub has parking space for those that have to drive out to it and it's situated just by a river if you fancy a walk after your roast.
