Well you certainly wont go thirsty in here. Its an usual pub really with all sorts making an entrance, which adds to the diversity of the place. Its totally relaxed and chilled and they do karaoke in the week, like we need that!

Open all hours!

Just off broad street this place is leagues ahead of the horrible chain bars that line the main strip. It has a traditional feel with lots of character, it's quite big but split out on 2 levels with a warren of little rooms still feels intimate. The basement level opens out onto the canal near the mailbox. We went there at 1am on a Tuesday night and the party staying in full swing until the small hours.

Ale and decks!

Ever heard a DJ doing a full-on dance set in an old man's real ale pub? No? You ain't been to the Tap and Spile then!
Right by the canal in a proper old building on three levels. A huge selection of real ales - not the best kept in the world, but you can forgive them that for the sheer randomness of this place being right on the corner of Broad Street.
Bit of an old man's pub but with a very young soundtrack pumping pretty darn loud at the weekend!

I've never had a bad night here...

Whenever I get hammered, and that can be quite often, I like to go to the Tap & Spile... especially if it's kareoke night!! The crowd are always receptive and I remember, just, singing MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This but making up new words... the crowd went wild and I drank even more to celebrate.
The only down side is that I'm not sure what it's like if you haven't had a drink or 7 before going.

A TRUE FACT

When Justin Timberlake was playing the NIA, he drank at the tap at the end of his show. Oh yes. ITS TRUE.
And it certainly ain't Hollywood.
Grotty decor, poor layout, odd clientele. But one of the best bars in Birmingham. It's hard to describe it's unique charm but it is definitely worth a visit.
Especially as it's open 'til it gets light. (even in winter)

One of the great hidden gems of Birmingham. By day a great little pub serving real ale in a friendly atmosphere. By night a fantastic after hours pub where the atmosphere is always good, the staff are friendly and you might even get a chance at the Karaoke with a local renowned character. Definetly one to check out !
