Secret Bar

This is so tucked away that its difficult to stumble across, which pleases me as on a friday night you are bound to know someone in here as it does attract the same clientele. Its nicely in the heart of Brum so its easy access for cabs.

Yard of Ale

Just on New Street this is pub you might normally miss if you are shopping or heading to other more common places in Birmingham for a night out. It's a small pub but with friendly staff and is more of a local feel than some of the chain pubs. It seems to be the place where people will stop off rather than a place to end up but still good and a bit of a hidden gem.

The Yard of Ale

13 Nov 07, 15:17 4* Above expectations

It's easy to walk past the Yard of Ale, as it's an underground pub on New Street, and therefore easily enough to miss. However, it's worth a visit as it's full of character, and comes complete with log fire and landlord's dog sleeping in front of it. It occasionally shows the football, and because it's such a discreet location, it can be quite nice to go somewhere like this that is quiet, as you can virtually guarantee a good view of the tv. Drinks are pretty cheap for a boozer in the middle of the town centre- around £2.60 for a pint, and about the same for a glass of wine. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary here, it's a typical'old man's pub', but it is a nice and quiet place for a few drinks and a chat, and is perfect for a mid-day tipple whilst you're out shopping.
