...but she would, she's posh. She loves the vast selection of champagnes, they even had her favourite brand, by the glass, which impressed her immensley...I, on the other hand, find it difficult to justify the the spending that much on a pint.
Odd place

Epernay is an odd one, it is over priced, it is pretentious, there is a pianist on a revolving platform. It doesn't seem to fit in with the other more youthful bars in town or the more mature living room type places but for some reason I like it! It's not too loud which is good if you're out with your girlfriends / boyfriend. It's definitely a girly choice and I don't think I could spend a whole evening here but definitely go for a drink!

So many great places in the Mailbox and this is another one, its the sort of place you can actually bring a date and have a relaxed time, whilst still feeling the buzz of a busy pub. Its definitley a more 'upper class' sort of place, or snooty if you dont like that kind of thing, its pretentous and i love it.

....went the piano. Sip sip went the posh people drinking champagne. Bang bang went the atmosphere as I walked in. You need to be dressed to impress when you go here and not mind spending more than a pint of beer should ever cost!!

Can... you hear a piano?

No... but there is one
If you are attracted to bars that elevate themselves by using gimicks like a revolving grand piano... then go, it's grrrreat!
But, if you can see through these facades, then don't bother. The drinks are expensive and the people... aren't your people!
And if you are thinking... "hmmm i like pianos and the sounds that come out of them, i might just go anyway - regardless of what this synical roughian might say" ... don't bother, because you won't be able to hear it over the chattering of drunk people
I mean honestly, how dizzy must that pianist get!

they'll kick you out. Epernay has a grand piano in it! Don't play on it though, you'll end up swimming in the canal.
This place is perfect if you want the nightlife of the mailbox but without the loud music. A great place for a date/couple night, not good for a hen night/stag do/pulling. Or maybe I'm rubbish at pulling.
Good food in the day as well. Worth spending some time there.

Simple food at this champagne and piano bar... you know if someone's ordered some of the fizzy stuff because they sound a bell - bit sad really but if your ego is as big as your wallet... There's a good atmosphere - roaring fire, live piano... sweet! The place doesn't completely exactly rock your world, but you can rely on the tried and tested food to taste good.
Oooh, Champagne. Novel.

OK, Credit where it's due - Epernay is a Champagne bar, and has a VERY fancy fire in the middle and AMAZING food and a real live pianist of an evening tinkling away at the big white grand piano and it's all very classy and everything, but I can't give it more than 3 stars.
There's a few reasons for this:
They price ALL drinks as if they're champagne. Which they are not.
The classiness of the fact they serve all kinds of champagne is ruinned for me by the way they insist of clanging a big bell everytime someone actually orders some. Twice if it's a bottle! Is that a measure of class? I'm clearly missing something.
Also, they allow full hen nights in with penis desly-boppers and banners and everything which sort of ruins the ambience of the place.
Want a quiet drink at the mailbox without it being a bit pretentious? Go downstairs to their sister bar Penny Blacks instead. They ring bells too, but it feels less out of place!

This is a very classy, superb restaurant and bar in the Mailbox. Expect fairly high prices but for your money you do get great surrondings and you may even see the pianist on the slow revolving platform as you eat or drink with friends.
