Ideas Above Its Station

Above expectations
Once upon a time this pub was a haven for the disaffected of Sutton - the old men, the students, the drug-addicts and the underage school children. Its had a clear-out since those heady days, and re-invented itself as a proper grown-up gastro pub. And whilst its maybe lost some of its magic, its still an oasis in the chain-pub hell that is Sutton.

The Station Pub Sutton Coldfield

Above expectations
This Sutton watering hole has been open for quite some time but in recent years has seen something of a rennaissance in terms of its clientele and general atmosphere. The interior is cool without being too cliched (plenty of old mis-matching chairs and sturdy tables), the bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their wares and the place generally has one of those 'vibes' you only get from a truly great pub. Be warned, it can get packed on a Friday and Saturday night, and in summer the beer garden is heaving with local Sutton-ites sipping their Hoegarden and local ales under the patio heaters. The beer garden itself is great for a leisurely post-work drink- again, bagging yourself a table on a busy night (especially at the weekend), can seem like something of a chore, but it is worth it! The food served at The Station is better than most pub grub- posh sandwiches with out-of-the-ordinary fillings (Morroccan chicken anyone?) served with fabulous chunky home-made chips are great, not to mention the complimentary crusty bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar that is offered before you eat. This pub is one of my favourites and completely deserves its popularity- unpretentious, reasonably priced and a great atmosphere- perfect!
