Crofters- good food & good wine
Nicole L. says:
When I moved to Witham from London the one thing I knew I was going to miss was the choice and variety of eating out. But I was surprised to find that Witham was a tiny hub of great restaurants! One of the first restaurants I tried in Witham was Crofters. Aparently it was orgionally opened as a wine bar and then I understand that the restaurant really kicked off. You have to book way in advance if you want to get a table. The interior is trendy and warm and you get people travelling from miles to come and taste the food. I recommend the pink champagne and the duck with raspberry main course. The service is also very friendly and atmosphere is lovely. In the summer they have a beautiful secret garden where you can have a romantic candle-lit dinner in the open air. They also have a lunch menu at a really reasonable price.

Hangover heaven

This little cafe is one of many down the high street but this one I have a real love for. On many Saturday morning I have walked the short journey down towards this greasy haven. The food is surprisingly tasty and the portions large. They will put any items together to create your ideal breakfast, even if the waitress will scowl at you. The ketchup is vinegary and the decor very pine but the classic London cafe charm fills this place and my heart every time I visit. Definitely recommend on a lazy weekend for cheap eats..

Thai in a nut house

The wonderful thing about Stokey is that you are always going to find something different when you walk down the street looking for a restaurant. If you fall into Yum Yums then you have done well. The exotic decor is fun and makes the night a good one but the food is a little bit on the standard side. Not what you would expect for such beautiful surroundings. The building was a hospital for the mentally disturbed and is a listed building. I took my parents here to eat when they first came to visit me in London. Amazing really that you can sit and eat extraordinarily ordinary Thai food in such a wonderful place. As I said, you'll always find something different in Stokey.

Pricey Place
Lizzie G. says:
I really like this bar and went to it on the recommendation of the reviews on this site. I think the atmosphere is really relaxed and a haven from the busy suit hangouts that are a stones throw away. Its modest decor and drink selection is something that makes the place really appealing. The only thing I really have to say about this place that will put some people off is the prices. Two drinks cost me £9, so unless it’s a special occasion or you have a generous pay check, I'd only pop in for one.

Don't trust a book by its cover
Lizzie G. says:
When my sister told me she wanted to go here for her birthday my heart filled with dread. At first I was concerned that my sister, the non-Londoner, was going to some commercial, trashy place that would be playing bad Rn’B, but I was pleasantly surprised. The place was snug with many chipped wooden tables crammed together to give a lively yet relaxed vibe.
The great thing about this bar is the table service, which is done ever so politely and efficiently. It was a really good place for a birthday as they separated a section of seats off for us and let us pay for our drinks individually which stopped any confusing bills at the end. The chocolate cocktails are original, tasty and great for a treat. I really would recommend this place for a party or a few drinks after work, just to note though, it does get busy with the media types later in the evening.
