The White Lion Of Mortimer, N4
Leave Wetherspoons alone!
Paul D. says:
I don't get why people are so down on Wetherspoons, it serves its purpose very well. My nearest is The White Lion and I'm not averse to popping in for a nice pint of Perry with a few friends. The food is ok if your hungry, and the layout isn't the worst Ive seen from a Wetherspoons. There is also a small outside area to enjoy the wether (!) if it permits and the front patio doors open to bring the outside in! Overall, there are better places to go, but there are a lot worse as well!
Chapter One Bar and Kitchen, N4
Cosy and intimate bar.
Paul D. says:
This is one of the highlights of the Stroud Green Road. Chapter One offers up a fine night out, with its warm and friendly environment and fairly extensive cocktail list! Also on offer are a nice selection of tap beers and a wine list to match, although I have not eaten there, the bar menu likes quite appetizing and I will be sampling some of it when I return. Some live music (most nights but don't quote me on that!) in this intimate space sets it up for a fantastic time, highly recommended!
The Faltering Fullback, N4
Full (back) of character!
Paul D. says:
The fullback is a great little oddity, meant in the best possible way! From the ivy clad exterior to the hanging bicycles and various nik naks the adorn the the ceiling, you have a sense that this is going to be a slightly different drinking experience. Wander through the pub to the back area and there is plenty of picnic bench seating with a pool table and quiz machines for your entertainment, as well as a large screen for any rugby or football games that may be on. There is a small kitchen which serves relatively inexpensive Thai food and some pub grub for when you get peckish. With the added bonus of a smallish, but perfectly formed outdoor seating area, this pub really does seem to have it all, and whats more, the place has a bit of soul about it, which is sadly lacking from a lot of pubs these days, give it a try and you will definitely be back!
Wing Wah Chinese Takeaway, N4
Great Local chinese
Paul D. says:
Wing Wah is really near to where I live, and does good quick chinese food, they have a permanent set meal deal which consists of various dishes served with either egg fried rice or chow mein for £3.95, and you get a lot for that amount! There is obviously the usual fare, and everything is reasonably priced, and there are plenty of papers to read while you wait and the TV is always on to keep you entertained, very quick, cheap and reliable, I love it!
Mela Restaurant, N4
Service with a smile
Paul D. says:
Mela is a nice, small Indian restaurant on Stroud Green road that I decided to visit with my parents and girlfriend one Saturday evening. We were expecting it to be busy, but got there just before the evening rush and had the restaurant to ourselves for a while. The waiter was very eager and helpful, at times a little too eager, and the service was speedy and efficient. The food was very nice and the prices were reasonable too, with a main for about £7 and a nice bottle of beer for about £4, all in all a very pleasant dining experience!
