Wahaca, WC2N
Out Of this World!
Adam K. says:
This place is definitely one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Although it can be hard at times to get a table you can often only have to wait if you go earlier on in the evening.
The food suits most people as there i a variety of different spiciness levels, as well as the option to add chili sauce for those who love hot food.
I would recommend having the churros with chocolate sauce, which are divine regardless of whether you are a chocoholic or not. I suggest that you get one per person as if you attempt to share you will just end up ordering more. :D
The cherry on top of the cake is that they give you free Jalpeno Pepper Seeds (for those who don't know, these are chili seeds which will grow into trees). Although you might be skeptical at whether they will grow, I can assure you that they do grow.
Cote , SW19
Fabulously French!
Helen E. says:
Cote is the newest offering from the company that own the Italian chain Strada - the idea behind the restaurant is to offer great quality French food at reasonable prices - and they really have met their specification with this one.
Situated in the heart of Wimbledon Village it is a real hit with the incredibly rich residents of the area, and I can see why. The great thing about this restaurant is that it is the type of place, like Strada where you can have an expensive meal or have a quick, much cheaper meal - you have the choice. On this occasion we opted for the more expensive meal option.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is attentive, yet discreet. The interior is quite reminiscent of a Hopper painting with, dark wooden seating in a slightly hidden and dark setting. This is contrasted with pie and mash shop style Edwardian ornate floor tiles - the mix works really well and makes for simple yet stunning dining.
The food is of great quality, and the wine choices are of the same high standard. I am always wary of French cuisine not being a fan of garlic or overly rich food, but was really pleased with how much fish and light dishes were on the menu - I was spoilt for choice.
I opted for mussels to start, followed by the special of lobster risotto, both of which were light and really tasty. The frites are similar to those served on the streets of Belgium and are top quality - don't miss them! Pudding was a push as portions are large but worth it. Crepes with strawberries and Chantilly cream, dusted finely with icing sugar - perfect!
Some elements are similar to Strada, you get a free bottle of filtered water on arrival, and the prices are a touch more expensive. Overall a perfect night out in a lively but intimate restaurant.
p.s. Don't forget to book, this place is popular and only half of the restaurant is reserved for people who have not made a reservation.
Local Friends, NW11
Incredible!
Adam K. says:
One of the best Chinese Restaurants in the Golders Green area. The service is quite fast and extremely friendly. You only have to go once or twice before the staff recognize you. The food is out of this world. I recommend their Dim Sum which is beautiful. This is a great place to go for take away or for eating in with a few friends or more. A benefit of eating in is complimentary salted peanuts which are very nice to eat while deciding what to order.
Dim T, NW3
Great for Dim Sum, not good for anything else.
Adam K. says:
The Dim Sum here is fabulous and worth coming just to try it. The rest of the menu is standard but better quality can easily be found outside of Hampstead. However it is almost impossible to find parking, but if you have to go by car i suggest trying Lyndhurst Rd or Akenside Rd, heading towards Belsize Park. The 46 stops right next to the restaurant so is a good way to get there.
Cheese Hamlet, M20
More than Cheesey Goodness!
Adam K. says:
I went to this shop to find a cheese which Waitrose sold but I wanted to get from a local shop. They did not have any in stock yet unlike most of the cheese stores i had been to they knew what I was talking about. They proceeded to order it for me and phoned me when it arrived which was 3 days later. This was extremely helpful and efficient of them.
My grandparents also went to them and got their caterers (for their golden anniversary) to base the sticky toffee pudding on the ones the Cheese Hamlet sold. I suggest you try them.
As with most shops in the area it is hard to find parking. I suggest parking on one of the smaller streets or making use of the public transport/walking.
