Waters Edge, HA4
Cheap but Excellent Carvery
Sue M. says:
The last time I went to Ruislip Lido I was only interested in ice-cream and building sand castles. It was brilliant going back last week with my mum and sister, taking in the beautiful scenery, something I didn't notice when a child. There is loads for kids to do. Parking is free, there's a pub for adults and best of all there is the cheapest and best Carvery I have come across for a long time. For £3.95 - yes £3.95 you can help yourself to as many roast potatoes, vegetables as you like. A great choice of roast pork, beef, turkey or lamb available all day. Weekends are very busy. Can't wait to go back in the summer with friends and hire a boat!
Suitable for all ages: 0 to 100.
Blinking Owl Country Inn, OX15
A REAL COUNTRY PUB
Paul D. says:
Privately owned for the last 20+ years this outstanding local treasure offers the very best in traditional hospitatilty while offering a true experience of how a real country inn should be. Roaring homely fires in this beautifuuly original interior and the added warmth of the Landlord David and the equisite meals created by Sylvia mean that you will never walk away disappointed. David offers an excellent range of traditional real ales, and other beers, complimented by an excellent range of wines and spirits. A freindly and warm welcome awaits from the locals and staff at the blinking owl - it really is a place to add to your list of places to visit at least once in your life - but once visited I dare you not to go back!!!
The George Hotel, OX10
Good Value
Sue M. says:
We were lost for something to do this Sunday between 6:30pm and 7:30pm and stumbled across The George Hotel offering BOGOF. (by one get one free) pub meal. My husband had fish and chips and I had a ploughmans. The meal for two came to £8.95 - not bad. I then noticed they are doing a lunchtime meal for only £10 Monday to Wednesday. This includes a two course meal plus a drink - a bargain. I have a friend coming to see me Wednesday so I know where I'm going to take her.
PLUS at the beginning of the month they always have a jazz band!
I'm glad we found this historical pub overlooking Dorchester Abbey and High Street.
The White Hart, OX10
Friendly
Sue M. says:
Shaun the landlord always greets you with a smile. There is a "posh" restaurant area for that really special occasion, there is a "nice" area for a nice meal out and you can relax and just eat in the pub area.
The quality of food is excellent in all three areas.
They also have a diners club you can join for free and you can save 10% off your bill!
After dinner relax on their comfy chairs by the homely log fire.
Avoid "football" nights as they have a very small screen in the pub area.
Benson Waterfront, OX10
Nice Location
Sue M. says:
You don't find many places where you can park for free, buy a coffee and sit out by the River. There's a small paddling pool for toddlers to splash around in.
The food and service isn't brilliant but you really cannot beat the location - idyllic. Good walks too!
Great place for walkers or cyclists to take a break!
