Pitcher & Piano, B1
Nice when its not rammed
Bonnie H. says:
In the summer months the Pitcher and Piano in Brindley Place is appealing as they have tables and chairs outside overlooking the canal. During the day it attracts workers but on the night especially at weekends there are mixtures of ages that come here. The drinks and bottles of wine are expensive and they do offer cocktails as well which are nice but you pay a little more for these. They do a really nice peach Bellini which is about £7 a glass and it tastes lovely.
It gets very busy in here of a weekend and you seem to wait ages at the bar, there are two floors to this place and I advise staying at the bottom level as there’s more seating and outdoor space for the smokers. A nice place to go but the amount of people they pile in spoils it.
Pennyblacks, B1
A place to go after work
Bonnie H. says:
Pennyblacks is a nice bar in the Mailbox overlooking the canal; it has a relaxed feel to the place with comfy sofas and dimmed lighting. The clientele is mainly business/office workers’ going for drinks after work but it also attracts people using this as a meeting place before moving onto a club.
The food they serve here is typical ‘English’ grub but tastes nice, you pay a little more but that’s because it’s in the mailbox. It doesn’t really get busy during the day but of a weekend evening tables seem to get booked up especially in the summer months. It’s a nice place to go after a hard day at the office.
The Big Wok, NG1
ok for the price.
Ian W. says:
There's quite a few "all you can eat" chinese buffet restaurants in Nottingham now, some are better than others.
Big Wok isn't the best, but it certainly isn't the worst. For the money you pay, it's excellent value.
My main critisism is the vegetarian choice. There's only really a couple of veggie main course options, & one of these is Bean curd in Mango Sauce.
....MANGO SAUCE!!! ....what's that all about?
Can I have my Bean Curd in black bean sauce please?
The Bucklemaker, B3
Amazing Food
Bonnie H. says:
For excellent food and an intimate evening the Bucklemaker in Saint Paul’s Square, Birmingham is the perfect place to be. From the outside of the building you wouldn’t think this place was a restaurant but as you enter and go down to the basement level you will be really surprised at what this place has to offer. The atmosphere is really romantic with candles lighting up the tables and soft music playing in the background.
You can come here for a meeting place and have tapas or opt for fine dining. The food here tastes amazing, with all the food locally sourced it’s very fresh and the chef adds his own style to it. You have a main menu and a specials board which appeals to all. The waiting staff are very helpful too and not intrusive which makes the dining experience a whole lot better.
The food is a little pricey but if it’s for a special occasion then you won’t go wrong. It is best to book a table, if you want something more intimate then secure a private alcove which seats 4 people, it’s a lot quieter and romantic.
Snobs, B1
A great night out!
Bonnie H. says:
Situated in Birmingham a short walk from Centenary Square, Snobs is one of those places where you have to go to again and again. I’ve had many a good night in snobs due to the quality music and the people. If you like your Indie music then this is the place for you.
Snobs is small compared to the likes of the Academy however this is what I like as you never get lost. There are two rooms which play different types of music. The main room is Indie/rock and the other room is more hippyish. It does tend to get busy in Snobs but the more the merrier. They do provide a cloakroom service so no need to worry about losing your bag and coat.
Wednesday night is student night and by far the best place to be, great tunes, happy people and great drink promos. The bottled beer and spirits are cheap, but stick to bottles as they tend to water the spirits down. Saturday night plays heavier music but always a great atmosphere.
And if you’re worried about taxis at the end of the night, then don’t worry as there are always black cabs waiting outside to take you home.
If you’re looking for a fun night out then this is the place to be!!
