Review of Embargo

Shocking shocking shocking
The problem with this part of London is that there are no decent places for after hours drinking. Embargo is a complete dingy dive.
It plays pretty appauling music, it's obviously over priced and they stamp you with ink that takes about 4 washes to come off - so everyone knows you've paid it a guilty visit.
I'd avoid it like the plague.

Review of Whole Foods

I was so disappointed
I had really high hopes for whole foods, and was sorely disappointed when I did finally make my way up there.
All the organic items are not unique or interesting - you can get most of this stuff in your local supermarket at half the price.
The cheese room was fetid with cheese that had gone over, the fruit and veg looked sad and tired.
I think it's a waste of money, bring back Barkers anytime!

Pervy Men & Expensive Drinks
I agree with Lucy the men in here are stomach churning.
I don't really rate the cocktails and it's really expensive. I think it has a bit of a reputation for being a good place in Chelsea to hang out, but I don't really see why. I think it was made famous by that ridiculous man James Hewitt being caught doing Coke in the loos.
I wouldn't bother.

Review of The Elk Bar
19 Apr 08, 09:15
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie
As with most of Fulham Broadway, the bars actually on the B'way are completely full of Australians, Kiwis and South Africans - but The Elk bar really gets the brunt of it.
I have nothing against these visitors, infact if you are in the mood they can be quite fun, just don't go near it when England are playin one of them because they are rather ungracious!
The bar however is ok, but it's always over crowed with really bad DJs, I'm actually surprised that it's managed to stay there as long as it has.

Review of Aragon House

Fairly foul
Stuffed full of pink shirts and loafers.
On the plus side, it's got a massive garden in the back, which when the weather is good gets packed, they do a pretty good BBQ too.
I have to have one rant on this place though, which is the reason I've only given it it one star.
The bar staff are rubbish - basically if there is a packed bar two or three people deep they do nothing about it, they just stand around chatting and not doing their job.
Sorry to go off on one, but it's very annoying particularly with the prices they charge, you are better off in the Duke or the Pony if you want to stay in a good mood.

Not a big fan
This pub is a bit of a weird one, I think I've only given it 1 star because compared to the other pubs along that stretch, it's left wanting.
It's a big old airy place with a massive bar. The times I've been in there it's been really quiet and you almost feel like you have to whisper so as not to disturb the quiet.
Apparently they do a good pub quiz but I've never been. You're better off in the Duke just up the road or the Lighthouse.

Worst Music Venue
I've been to quite a few gigs here and I can't stand it.
Although it's in a relatively good location, the actual venue is rubbish. Personally I think the acoustics are terrible because of all the concrete and the tin roof, the sound just bounces around the place and drowns out singers voices.
The layout isn't great either it's easy to loose people. My advice, if you go with mates, make a meeting place incase you get lost as you don't have a hope of finding anywhere you can hear your phone.

Review of The Larrik

A bit of a void
Not a lot to say on this place really, the food's pretty miserable and it's overpriced.
It's got really high ceilings, and a big floor space which is made to look even larger by the fact that there's never anyone in there.
Only time I've seen it busy is during a match. I wouldn't bother to be honest!

A guilty pleasure
I know, I know, the dive and all that - I fully admit this is possibly the worst hole in the hole of England (including Slough) but I believe there are a few of you out there who've had surprising nights in there.
I know you won't admit it - but you're out there I know you are, I've seen you in there on a Thursday.
Caution: Do not attempt unless heavily intoxicated - then dance like a total fool for hours.

Review of Annabels Club

So over rated
I just don't get what the hype is about this place. It's full of poxy posers with something so far stuck up their arses they've not seen daylight in a while.
I've seen Christian Slater in there (he's short) and that's about it.
If you want to spot slightly past it Hollywood drop outs and pay £15 for a glass of wine then you'll love it. Otherwise I think you'd probably have more fun in a Wetherspoons.

Review of Barbarella

Gross
Perhaps one of the tackiest places I've been.
People tend to hire it out for parties as there is a dancefloor then they open their doors to the public after a certain time.
The food is pretty rubbish for the price, it smells and there are too many mirrors that you constantly see pissed people mistaking for hallways and trying to walk through. - Worth it for five minutes if you are sober to see people bouncing off the walls.

Not great food
I don't rate this for good Tapas, you're better going to El Metro by Fulham Broadway.
It is quite good for the lash though if you are willing to overlook the food. The waiters get into the party spirit and there is dodgy dancing and plate smashing (I thought that was greek!).
They are open late so if you can't make it to a late night bar this is ok as a last ditched attempt to get that final unnecessary beer in.

Review of Pugs and Kisses

Rip off joint
I think this is the most ridiculous shop in London, you can pay over £50 for a lead - it's extortion.
It seems to do fairly well, given the clientèle in the area.
My advice - go further up the New Kings Road to The Hurlingham Dog Shop - they have a great range of value accessories and goodies.

Review of The Plough

Still under refurbishment
This is a great pub to look at, and to sit and drink outside in the summer, it's got a lovely floral front beer garden, but I wouldn't touch the food in there - unless you keep it really simple.
I've only rated it with one star at the moment as it's currently being refurbished. I believe it's under new management so I am living in hope that the new owners will be a bit better with the food.
It's great in the summer if you've had a good walk in Richmond, great place to re-hydrate and chill.

Review of Brompton Quarter Cafe
17 Apr 08, 09:07
Not as good as it looks
I have to agree with Amy, I don't rate the cafe too highly either. It's over priced with a rather uninspiring menu.
There is however a grocer next door owned by the same people called the Brompton Quarter Cafe which is really lovely. They've an interesting selection of deli things, and a good range of cupboard goods like oils, pastas and various other bits and pieces.
It's a bit expensive though, but you'd expect that from it's location.

Review of 47 Degrees

Not great
I wasn't really impressed with 47 - to be honest the staff are a bit arsey and their own label equipment which is supposed to be cheaper is a bit of a rip off.
I think you're better going off to Snow and Rock.

Gross
Really dodgy place that you should only stumble into if you can't make it over the bridge.
Slightly seedy bouncer that really gives you the once over before deciding whether you are alright (ie still standing) to go in.
Would avoid it if possible.

I'm with you guys
It's not a great place. Went on a date once and I couldn't hear a word the guy was saying - there was a DJ playing at full pelt to a practically empty bar.
Not a big fan, you can do better than that in the area.

Review of The Victoria

Bad bad bad
One of the smelliest pubs I've come accross.
Really unfriendly landlady who doesn't seem to like women, the staff are pretty miserable and the food is dirty dirty dirty.
Worst toilets in London.

Review of Plaza Foods
10 Apr 08, 09:23
I feel bad but....
Having lived in the area my entire life, I have a strange fondness for this quite frankly bizaare establishment.
I can't imagine the rent is cheap for a commercial property on this stretch of the New Kings Road, so I simply find it mind boggling that this place has been in existance for as long as it has.
What does it stock? Well good question, when you catch it on a good day, you'd be lucky to find a packet of digestives or some stange greek dip.
If you want wierd obscure food or cleaning items - Plaza is your place. After fags, newspaper and some toilet roll, forget it.
Guilty pleasure though, lovely staff, rubbish shop!
Enjoy (or just go down to Budgens down the road!)
