Review of Octopus

Quite amusing
If you want a frog shaped toaster, hippo toilette brush, or other really unpractical household items then this is the place for you.
Only time I've found it useful is when trying to find something amusing for a batty aunt that you've been palming off smelly soap to for the last 5 Christmases - make sure she has a sense of humor and be prepared to receive it as a gift from her some years later - untouched in it's shinny box.

Review of William Yeoward

Beautiful Crystal
I love this shop, but for what it is I really think it's overpriced.
If you are looking for a wedding present of something like that they have the most beautiful crystal champagne flutes or whisky glasses.
The cheapest will probably set you back £40 a pop, but for something really special it's worth a look.
I've only given it two because of the price. They carry an interesting line of home furnishings too.
If this isn't in your budget go up the road to Heals.

Review of Liberty and Co
19 Apr 08, 11:15
It's lost it's edge
Much classier than Harrod, Liberty was always known as the cutting edge department store in London with designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Jean Muir and many more starting their careers there.
Unfortunately in recent years it's gone a bit down hill - it's lost it's unique approach to the goods in store and has become more generic and like other department stores which is a shame. It's also only a third the size it used to be.
For a tourist though, it's well worth a look as it's very much a part of London.

Review of The Collection

Pretty Dull
Another place that has a good reputation that when you actually go there it's really a bit crap.
Very over priced, not particularly interesting people, and it feels like a church when it's not busy.
One of those places that people talk about, but they are not really sure why. I would really avoid it during the Christmas period as a lot of the local Estate Agents have their Christmas parties there - grotty!

Review of Carluccios

Standard Italian Chain
Carluccio's is fine for a coffee or a quick bite to eat. Being that it's part of a large chain, it does lack any unique or unusual qualities. The food is bog standard Italian Fair, with a deli counter and shop in most branches.
Good place to go if you are visiting someone in Chelsea & Westminster hospital and they feel like a prison break.
Not as busy as the one in South Kensington.

Review of Sand
19 Apr 08, 08:31
Not massively impressive
Sand is a funny one, I've been there a lot and it's really 50/50 as to the people you get in there. Sometimes you get a really good friendly crowd who will happily mix with other groups.
More often than not it's too crowded and loud so you can't hear what anyone's saying.
I personally don't like the music but it might be some people's thing. The drinks are over priced so if you don't go with a good group of friends it's not really worth the trip.

Review of The Clapham Grand
19 Apr 08, 08:25
Predictable
The Grand in one of those places that makes you groan when you wake up in the morning and remember staggering about in there.
It's a bit of a dive to be honest, with fairly average music. The only way to make it fun is if you go with a massive group of friends.
Be careful when you come out if you are on your own, keep your wits about you and mind out for the dodgy cabs.

Review of Peters and Falla

Too expensive
Boring subject I know but when you need a dress in a hurry for a party it's kind of useful if they can have it ready on time for the day!
Pretty expensive these guys, plus when they say three days, allow for five!
Don't bother getting alterations done here, complete rip off - Mum's are much cheaper!

Review of Union Inn
17 Apr 08, 14:28
Quite good
I never touch Cowes during Cowes week or in the height of summer - stuffed full and unbearable, so out of season the Union is pretty good.
It's your bog standard pub, which is usually full of locals (no bad thing).
Good beers, not too over priced, and if there are a few of you, there's a big table round the side of the pub that people overlook - don't you can make as much noise as you like in there - plus there's access to the bar!

Review of Nayaab
17 Apr 08, 08:59
Ruby Murray 1
There are better curry houses in this area, and from the outside Nayaab doesn't look like anything too special.
It's not bad though, in terms of price, food and service it'll do.
If you want an impromptu curry and you are in the area you could do worse.

Review of Surfside Beach Shop
16 Apr 08, 20:47
Good for Wadebridge
Good little shop if you want to get better prices on wetsuits and things than in Polzeath or Newquay.
Mind out with the parking in the summer the ticket guys are quite hot.

Review of The Duke of Clarence
16 Apr 08, 17:18
Generic
Like many of the pubs in this chain Jeronimo Inns - they also own the Builders Arms, Harwood and East Hill, they are perfectly acceptable, but nothing new or particularly special.
They don't offer anything new but the food is good, the service friendly and reasonably priced.

Review of The Goat In Boots
16 Apr 08, 17:09
Bit of a let down
This used to be a great pub about 5 years ago, it's now full of a strange mixture of people that don't seem to blend at all.
I'm not even sure if they do food, but the beer is very expensive the toilets are always broken and it strikes me as being really dirty.
Useful if you are about to head into the cinema and you fancy a quick drink before hand - but that's about it.

Review of The Trafalgar
16 Apr 08, 16:31
Bit of a hole
Not my favourite pub in Chelsea given it's so close to the Phoenix, but I guess it's ok as a stop off point.
Always seems a bit dark and dindgy, but it's affordable and you can almost always get a seat.

Review of Chelsea Potter
16 Apr 08, 16:26
Standard pub
Although famous, I don't rate the Potter very much, it seems to be a place people go if they want to be spotted by the people strutting up and down the Kings Road.
It's not particularly cheap, nice or special in any way.
I guess the location is ok, but other than that it's a bit of a void.
