Review of Fentiman Arms

Good gastro pub 5*

The Fentiman Arms is about halfway down Fentiman Road in Vauxhall.

It's a cracking pub with really good food, and a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Try the Wild Boar Sausages and Mash - really good. They have a good range of wines at good prices too.

Definitely worth a try.

The Booat! 5*

World famous the boat, which is moored on the Gateshead side put Newcastle on the map!

literally an old cruise ship, this monstrosity has a number of different rooms with different music and dancefloors.

Look out for the spinning dance floor on the bottom floor, try not to get one leg on the rotating floor and one on the ground!

Review of Legends

Ah, legends! 3*

The legendary legends - it's your typical old school Jordie dive.

They arrange great student nights in particular VodBull nights, go out with a tenner and come home completely hooned!

The actual club is a bit scabby, and since the smoking ban, doesn't smell great, but it's very central and your bound to have a good night.

Review of The Elk Bar

19 Apr 08, 08:15

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie 1*

As with most of Fulham Broadway, the bars actually on the B'way are completely full of Australians, Kiwis and South Africans - but The Elk bar really gets the brunt of it.

I have nothing against these visitors, infact if you are in the mood they can be quite fun, just don't go near it when England are playin one of them because they are rather ungracious!

The bar however is ok, but it's always over crowed with really bad DJs, I'm actually surprised that it's managed to stay there as long as it has.

Review of The Clapham Picture House

Indie Cinema at it's best 5*

CPH shows a really great selection of Independent Films.

They do really interesting seasons based on directors, actors or themes. I'd go to their website and sign up for the newsletter to keep abreast of what seasons they are showing.

If you are into film - and I mean proper film, this is well worth a visit, plus it's cheaper than going to the soulless Vue or Cineworld!

Review of Oka

19 Apr 08, 08:01

Clean Style 5*

Oka is a great shop if you like simple well made stylish furniture in mute woods or creams.

There range has an Asian feel to it with lots of teak and wicker materials.

They also do online sales and have a pretty comprehensive catalogue.

Review of Paxton and Whitfield

Cheese-tastic 5*

Just as the others have said this is the best and most authentic cheese shop in London.

They have a massive range of international and British cheeses along with lots of accompaniments and bits and bobs.

If you are going away for a smart weekend and want to impress I suggest you offer to bring the cheese board and pop down to Jermyn Street for a Paxton Special!

Review of Randalls Butchers

19 Apr 08, 07:55

The Best in London 5*

It's true that Randall's is probably the most expensive butcher in London, but if you want the best you have got to pay for it.

The lovely Brian is also brimming with ideas, if there is a meat you haven't cooked or heard of he's always got quick and easy suggestions.

If you are on a budget, try the lamb burgers, or the ready mixed chicken stir fry.

I would avoid going on a Saturday as there is usually a queue out the door.

Review of Aragon House

19 Apr 08, 07:52

Fairly foul 1*

Stuffed full of pink shirts and loafers.

On the plus side, it's got a massive garden in the back, which when the weather is good gets packed, they do a pretty good BBQ too.

I have to have one rant on this place though, which is the reason I've only given it it one star.

The bar staff are rubbish - basically if there is a packed bar two or three people deep they do nothing about it, they just stand around chatting and not doing their job.

Sorry to go off on one, but it's very annoying particularly with the prices they charge, you are better off in the Duke or the Pony if you want to stay in a good mood.

Review of The Latchmere

Not a big fan 1*

This pub is a bit of a weird one, I think I've only given it 1 star because compared to the other pubs along that stretch, it's left wanting.

It's a big old airy place with a massive bar. The times I've been in there it's been really quiet and you almost feel like you have to whisper so as not to disturb the quiet.

Apparently they do a good pub quiz but I've never been. You're better off in the Duke just up the road or the Lighthouse.
