Review of Heebie Jeebies

Yes!
Popular with students and indie-types which gives it a far more laid back atmosphere than a lot of other clubs in town. It has three different floors and an amazing amount of bars dotted around the place.
Quality music, great range of drinks and a sweaty dance floor what more could you ask for. It is also pretty reasonable, when I went on a Friday it was £5 to get in which is good compared to other, more pricy places in Liverpool.
It is trend, has a pretty hip dress code and attracts some quite interesting people, but this all adds to the great atmosphere. You get the feeling that everyone in Heebie Jeebie is here for the same reason, to have a laugh and enjoy the music which is a great feeling. The staff are friendly, helpful and are pretty quick, keeping bar queue’s to a minimum.
If you are contemplating a night out in Liverpool and appreciate your music then Heebie Jeebie is the place to go - without a doubt, top night out!

Rumble in the Jungle
Another great place to catch live music on Seel Street and the place to see
Liverpool's finest before they make it big, The Coral and Zutons both were regulars here, most nights host a range of local talent. On a good night.
I can't think of any venue that can compete with the atmosphere, I try and go at least once a fortnight to check out someone new, though when a name band is placing its good to get there early. The music does vary quite dramatically so it is always advisable to check the line up before you head in. They offer dj nights as well as live music and though the place is not huge it does have an ample dance floor.
Dinks are your usual fare and reasonably priced, staff were pretty friendly and efficient. Overall a great night out whether you want to dance to great tunes of appreciate some great live acts – it is my destination of choice for something different in the city.

Review of Bikram's Yoga College of India

This is hardcore
This is yoga for the hardcore, or totally insane. Performed in a room heated to 100 degrees - yes that's right 100 degrees - it consists of 26 postures. But don't worry if you've never done yoga before, classes are made up of all abilities and there's no pressure, you just do as much as you can. The temperature is supposed to emulate the heat of India and will ease muscles and joints, prevent injury and aid the healing of existing injuries, as well as promoting detoxification through sweating. Classes last for 90 minutes and the buzz you feel afterwards is amazing. Newcomers get a special rate of £29 for 30 days of unlimited classes.

There's no place like home
This modern home-furnishing store is large and spacious and perfectly in tune with the young-professionals who are busily buying up homes in the Balham area. From magazine holders to beds, this shop caters for all sizes of purchase, and is remarkably good value and unpretentious. The overall design feel of the place is blonde wood, white and steel, which gives it a Scandinavian feel, without trespassing onto IKEA territory. Well worth a visit.

Review of Brompton Quarter Cafe

Wonderbra Cafe
This place is very disappointing. It looks fabulous from the outside, the window is full of marie antoinette style cakes and pastries, the chalk board list dishes that sound so good they make you drool, the graphic interiors look modern and inviting...and then you are taken to your seat. In my case this is in a dingy bunker of a room downstairs where there are no other diners, the atmosphere is oppressive and the menu boring and expensive. I'm sure the upstairs is as fun as it looks. But don't be tempted into a table in the restuarant proper.

Retrosexual nirvana
This lovely retrosexual store in Kingly Court sells everything from the Thirties to the Sixties that's kitsch and classy. There's a great selection of homewear, like Babysham glasses, bar tools or even vintage swizzle sticks, plus there are more substantial items of furniture. The vintage clothing is good - especially the accessories (like Mary Quant tights and socks in their original packaging). Plus, the staff are normally kitted out in nominally Fifties garb to look the part, are full of advice about how to complete a look, or where to go if they don't have something in stock. All in all, a real find that you'll happily spend half an hour exploring - and probably buying up.

Review of Tesco Express

Express what exactly?
This is the worst supermarket I've ever been to. The main problem is that they simply don't sell anything. Literally half the shelves are bare. No peppers. No cheese. It's like wartime Britain.

Review of Cowling and Wilcox

Old masters
This large, old-fashioned shop is packed with everything from large-scale canvases to easels, portfolios and all the necessary to create your artwork (spray paints, cards, acrylics, oils, watercolours, brushes, pencils, and pens, card - more or less anything you could need). There's a large cutting board and scalpels available for clients to use to resize card, and the atmosphere is convivial - however, the prices are hugely inflated compared to CASS Art around the corner - a difference not really worth paying for a bit of old-school ambience.

It really is better bread
This is the most exclusive bakery in London, supplying the top chefs and only select delis. It is mind-blowingly expensive, but also very, very good. This is artisan food at its very, very best. The legendary sourdough is the Rolls Royce of the bread world, baked in a woodchip oven (built exactly to the owner's specifications), and containing pro-biotic yeast, so it is actually good for you. If you thought bread was just bread, try this - you'll never want to eat anything else. Excellent croissants, pastries and other baked goods are also on sale.

Nice teapots
This newish coffee shop on Ganton Street is the place to go for unusual teas served in unusual teapots. Fair-trade coffee, cakes and pastries are also available. Smoking is allowed though, which can be horrible if it gets busy. Staff are pleasant, and it's worth a visit if you're after a bit of respite from the streets of Soho.
