Review of Failsworth Mill Antiques

Failsworth Mill and The Cavern Antiques Centre
Think of house clearances from the homes of elderly deceased people or if you know me think of my grandparents attic. The mill is packed full of stuff and it very much depends on your personal taste as to whether you describe the stuff you see as retro, vintage, shabby chic or a just a pile of old junk. What should be celebrated about the mill is the diversity of the stuff on offer... books, cast iron fireplaces, props from films, tea sets, army surplus, old photos, vintage lace dresses, clocks, pianos, an ejector seat from an aircraft... the list is endless. Some of the furniture is actually really lovely, nothing is displayed with care but that adds to the charm of the place. Sandra's cafe is on site for strong tea and fry ups. There's a really good picture framing service here too. The turnover of stock isn't great so don't expect to visit and see a regular selection of new items and they're closed on Saturdays but if you've ever thought of picking up stuff to sell on ebay this would be good place to start.

Review of Hot Dogs Cool Cats

Hot Dogs Cool cats
Fab if you want to spoil your dog or your cat and are prepared to spend more on them than you would on a small child - crystal encrusted collars, porcelain food bowls, designer clothes... A good place for slightly mad but prosperous people who love animals. Or your dog on his birthday.

Mr Benns
This is a really good place to visit for fancy dress, party stuff or bouncy castles. Clean costumes, a good range of stuff to choose from and helpful staff.

Review of Three Arrows Inn

Three Arrows
This is such a nice place for an informal relaxing lunch or dinner and a few drinks. A really old and individual pub tucked away off junction 19 of the M60 close to Heaton park. It's warm and inviting and the food is really good. There are old English favourites like fish and chips together with French favourites like moules frites. The Sunday carvery is impressive and it's reasonably priced too.

Review of Heroes & Legends

Heroes and Legends
A really interesting shop that's packed full of sporting and music memorabilia as well as framed, autographed prints. John the owner is really friendly and helpful and there are plenty of signings that take place at the store offering you the chance to meet your hero... Well worth a visit if you're stuck for something to buy your Dad!

Review of Happy Garden

Happy Garden
It makes me happy! There aren't many take aways that do squid but the Happy Garden do and they do it well. They always deliver in less time than they promise and the place itself is really clean. They're sometimes a bit heavy on the garlic and the chilli but if you have a hangover that's what you need!

Review of This & That

This & That
This is Manchester's best kept secret and can be infuriating to find! It's a cafeteria style Indian restaurant down a very small side street. The facilities can only be described as basic but the food is amazing! It's cheap, authentic South Indian food and you get to choose from a selection of curries served on plastic plates. If you're really hungry you can add a chapati or naan to your meal but it still won't cost more than £5. Water is given free of charge. You won't want to visit the toilets but once you've eaten here once you'll join the ranks of the many This & That devotees!
