Review of Dean Widdows
18 Jun 08, 12:30
Reliable service, reasonable prices
After struggling to find a heating engineer who would actually return my voice messages, let alone come out when they said they would, I was recommended to Dean Widdows.
Dean came out to service my boiler at a time that was convenient to me, arrived when he said he would, completely the work professionally and presented a very reasonably priced bill.
I've subsequently recommended Dean onto friends and family who are equally pleased.

Review of China Palace Restaurant
17 Jun 08, 22:12
Great food, good service
I've enjoyed several meals at the China Palace and cannot fault them on the quality of the food, friendliness and attentiveness of the staff and the decor. Look out for the 17th-century elaborately carved guilded ceiling which is pretty spectacular.
The set menu's are good and provide a quality selection of dishes to share in a group. The portion sizes are large and nobody left the restaurant hungry for more. The a la carte menu also very good.
Prices aren't cheap, but if you've got something to celebrate, it's worth pulling out the credit card.

Review of Royals
17 Jun 08, 21:29
Big portions, reasonable prices
Cod and chips at Royals is consistently good. Crisp batter on the fish, freshly cooked chips and reasonable prices make Royals the best fish & chip shop in the area.
The staff behind the counter are friendly and courteous.
Royals also has an eat in area if you prefer.

Review of M & L Oriental Cuisine Take Away
17 Jun 08, 21:11
Inconsistent food quality
I've tried M & L several times over the last couple of months hoping that the quality of the food had improved. I have yet to be surprised or impressed.
Chicken dishes are prepared with chicken boiled to within an inch of it's life, sweet and sour dishes taste like vinegary tomato and rice is stodgy and reheated in the microwave.
On the whole, a disappointing eating experience.

Review of The Sussex Yeoman
17 Jun 08, 20:46
Gastropub food close to Brighton Station
Close to Brighton station, this pub has a friendly atmosphere and serves gastro-pub grub from it's specials board. Food isn't cheap, but shows in the quality. Seating is limited, so arriving and ordering early is essential.
Smokers are relegated to the street outside since there is no beer garden.

Review of Windmill Brewsters
17 Jun 08, 18:16
Good food for little money
The Windmill Brewsters is part of the Harvesters chain.
Main meals are served with a complimentary salad bowl which you can fill yourself from their comprehensive salad cart.
The main meals are big, mainly meat based and all cooked either on a spit or flame grilled. All food is cooked to order.
Harvester operate an Earlybird sitting (Mon-Fri pre 6.30, Sat pre 5.00) where all main meals are a 1/3 off. Weekdays around 6 are therefore very busy and it's worth getting in there well before 6 to secure a table.

Review of The Oyster Catcher
17 Jun 08, 18:05
Nice surroundings but the foods a bit inconsistent
The Oyster Catcher is a new build 'authentic' country pub which used to be very good on food, but now only has it's moments.
From a recent eating experience there, I got the impression that although the food was cooked that day, it wasn't necessarily for our order. The mash had been reheated and seasonal vegetables appeared to be a small hand full of green beans. Other meals 'enjoyed' by our party had similar experiences.
Food orders are generally fulfilled within a short time and the staff are friendly.

Review of China Garden Restaurant
17 Jun 08, 11:48
Huge menu, good food, plush setting
The staff at the China Garden are friendly, welcoming and attentive. The menu is huge and takes some time to read through all of the various options. The prices on the dishes are a little on the steep side and costs can spiral out control once the booze starts flowing. The dim sum are exceptional and shouldn't be missed.

Review of The Gingerman
17 Jun 08, 11:26
Great food, intimate setting
The Gingerman at Norfolk Square is an intimate little restaurant which serves great food.
The staff are friendly and knowledgable about the menu and will help dicipher any ambigious dishes.
Portion sizes are a little on the small size on first inspection, but by the end of the meal, you will feel like you've had a sufficiency.
Be sure to book well in advance to secure a table.

Review of 36 On The Quay
17 Jun 08, 11:08
Exceptional restaurant, fantastic food, great service
I've had the pleasure of visiting 36 on the Quay twice now and have been impressed on both occasions.
The menus are varied with some emphasis on fish and seafood. The food is elegantly presented with taste being the main focus.
The service is attentive and but not imposing. The decor is modern and luxurious.
The full dining experience usually takes 2 - 3 hours. The prices aren't cheap, but if you have something to celebrate, then 36 on the Quay is the perfect venue.
