Review of The Albert

20 Apr 09, 14:57

Great, friendly and fun 5*

Sorry Toni I totally disagree! I have had some great experiences at The Albert - the pub quiz on Tuesdays is particularly good fun and the food really good. I think Toni might have had a bad one-off experience as i've been several times and have had nothing but great experiences. Give it another go, and don't listen to what looks like a bad day...

Review of Bento

Off the boil 2*

They forgot my friend's main, my katsu arrived with almost no sauce and you have to pay extra for rice (with your curry). Poor overall which is a shame as i've had some good sushi here before.

Review of Strada

05 Apr 09, 21:46

Like eating in McDonald's only more expensive and less fun 1*

Now don't get me wrong, I usually really like Strada - good, solid, generic Italian, and good pizzas. However - this branch has got it all wrong... very rushed service (mains arrived whilst still eating starters), too loud, no blinds to stop the sun burning your eyes, and the food was luke warm. One of the mains was a salad which contained what must have been an entire red onion and little else. We would have been better off with a burger and fries from McDs.

Go to Strada, just not this one.

Review of Arif Bakery

The best bread in se london! 4*

A delightful little two-man band bakery serving up *the best* Turkish breads and a whole host of home-made cakes, pizzas and other treats. Always fresh, and at great prices too.

Make sure you look up! 5*

How cinema going should be - lovely bar, decent ice cream and superb decor. Make sure you look at the amazing ceiling in screen one!

Review of Chez Gerard At The Opera Terrace

Nice spot, nice food 3*

Part of the CG chain, this places serves up decent steaks and roast chicken. Fab snails as a starter is not to be missed, with chunks of good bread for soaking up the lovely garlic juices. The main point of coming to this CG rather than any others is the location - sat up in the rooftops of the Covent Garden piazza, it really is a nice spot to people watch and impress the out-of-towners you may have visiting. Service is average to poor.

Review of The O2

Amazing venue 5*

This is what The Dome should have been all along... a bloody great big entertainment space. It blows away Wembley, with great transport links, countless restaurants, a cinema, ice rink and two fab concert spaces. My first choice for gigs in London.

Review of East Street Market

Real market, real food 4*

I was initially put off by this market - it's right in the heart of Walworth Rd, and doesn't look very nice... but once you get stuck in, it's actually a gem for great, fresh produce at excellent prices. The fruit and veg is easily the highlight, and there are some good butchers too, in the units behind the stalls. And if you do need to pick up some tacky bling, there are plenty of places for that too :-)

It's on everyday (I think) and well worth a visit if you live in the area.

Review of Tower 42

Fizz with a view 5*

Vertigo42 is a great champagne bar, sat at the top of Tower 42 (formally Nat West Tower). It's small, and you need to book in advance, but it's a great place to get a birds eye view of the Capital. A bit flash and can be a bit footballers wives-esque (think gold handbags and blonde hair) but def a good place for a date, or to impress the parents.

Review of Menier Chocolate Factory

Nice change to the West End 4*

A great little theatre which often has performances that go on to the West End. The restaurant is good too, serving interesting dishes which are often themed to fit the production... a nice touch. They do some good dinner and ticket deals too, and the whole experience is a breath of fresh air from the West End.
