Least Intimidating Gym
I've tried a few gyms in the area and felt intimidated by all the muscle clad or ultra skinny people using it too - then found Broadmeadow - with very friendly helpful staff (normal people!) and separate Cardio Vascular and Weights rooms so you don't have to mix with the body builders if you don't want to! In the cardio Vascular room they have 3 cross trainers, 3 treadmills, 5 exercise bikes, 2 rowing machines, and a stairmaster type thingy as well as a matted area with abdo trainers, gym balls and small weights There are 2 big screens on the wall opposite all the machines, which all face the same direction, with music videos. What I also find helpful is that on the walls in this room there are lots of instruction posters and training tips for novices. When you first enrol you get an induction to show you all the equipment and can also get a training programme to suit your needs. I always feel relaxed and not intimidated like in other gyms as there seems to be mostly "normal" people of all ages and sizes, so I don't feel self conscious. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a creche so mums (and dads) can get into shape in the gym or do an aerobics class in a great atmosphere. The staff are always more than willing to help if you've got a query or stuck on how to work a machine.
