Review of Nissan Worthing

18 Apr 08, 17:56

Not an Arfur Daley in sight...! 5*

Buying a car from a dealership can be quite trying let's face it. But at Yeoman's Nissan in Worthing you won't find pushy, smarmy salespeople. Just good upfront, honest advice and some great deals on new and used cars.

They really know their stuff and genuinely like the product they're selling. What's not to like? Nissans in general are reliable and really great to drive. There's a model to suit all needs too whether it's the fast and sexy 350Z Roadster or the hulking great Navara or the lovely Qashqai perfect to fit the family in. I have the Micra C+C...a neat little convertible with a hard top glass roof. It's by far the best car I've ever had.

Blimey I feel like Jeremy Clarkson...

All the staff at Yeomans really look after you. Whether you're browsing, buying or need a service (your car I mean...) they'll attend to your every need with professionalism. If you need new wheels go and see Sam and his team...you won't regret it.

Review of The Blind Busker

18 Apr 08, 09:53

Average pub 3*

The Blind Busker is ok really.

It's up the road from where I live and they show all the big football games...it gets rammed on these occasions and a bit moist (!) I've only eaten there a couple of times and was pretty underwhelmed by all accounts. It is very cheap though so I guess you get what you pay for.

It is probably the most central pub for me and my mates in Hove so we do end up going there quite a lot. I like the layout of the place as it has lots of different sections so it has a nice atmosphere about it...and the staff seem friendly too.

Review of Grubbs Take Away Food Shops

18 Apr 08, 09:49

Late night scofff. 4*

Grubbs is just the best place to stuff your face after a night out drinkin' and dancin'...they have a HUGE choice of burgers including 8 or so options for vegetarians. As a veggie this pleases me no end.

They do nice skinny style chips but you get about 6 times more than you would at those infamous fast-food chains. Good sauce selection too.

OK it's not the healthiest option in the world but their ingredients are fresh and they cook their burgers to order so there's nothing festering on a hot plate. This can mean a little wait but it's well worth it. By the time they put that big fat juicy burger in your hand you are almost drooling!

Review of Havana Restaurant & Bar

18 Apr 08, 09:04

Right up its own backside! 2*

Havana was the first ever restaurant I ate in when I moved to Brighton. In fact I ate there the day I arrived here after a hard day of driving and unloading and traipsing up and down steps. Me and my then boyfriend were starving and looking forward to wandering around in our new town (it was a town then!) and having something good to eat.

We wandered from place to place and everywhere was full...it was a warm Saturday night in July. We eventually found a table at Havana which they seemed to begrudge giving us. We were still in our 'moving clothes' which by no means were scruffy. Just jeans & t-shirts really. However we were scowled at by the staff throughout the evening.

Don't get me wrong the food is good but expensive...they also go for the small and pretty angle when it comes to portion sizes. It didn't exactly fill a gap. The restaurant itself is looks lovely...all wood falls and white furniture.

I did go back to Havana a couple of years later with a mate and her footballer boyfriend. I watched whilst the staff flapped around him...although my friend and I were still treated with the same disdain I'd experienced before.

I certainly wouldn't go back there again. There's nothing worse than being made to feel like you should be grateful for being somewhere like that.

Review of Terre A Terre

17 Apr 08, 09:06

Over-priced 2*

There's no denying the food at this vegetarian restaurant is very good but my word is it expensive! Considering the menu is all veggie...that means everything is made of vegetables. So how can you justify charging up to £9 for a starter and £15 for a main course??!! Outrageous.

I admit I've only eaten there once and that's mostly because I can't afford to go back anytime soon. I also found the staff a little bit 'difficult'...maybe they were just having a bad night.

There are equally good if not better vegetarian restuarants in Brighton and you won't have to remortgage your house to eat in them. I suggest you go elsewhere.

Review of Food For Friends

17 Apr 08, 08:42

Simply the best... 5*

...veggie restaurant in Brighton...Great Britain...the World!

As a proper vegetarian (no I don't eat fish...or have the occasional kebab after a few WKDs like some so-called veggies) this restaurant is just pure heaven. You can usually get decent vegetarian food in most places in Brighton...we're catered for very well...but Food for Friends is out of this world. It takes some work to create really different and tasty food made purely from vegetables and they do it with style and flourish without being pretentious.

I've eaten there many times and have always been blown away. The restaurant itself is on a corner and you feel a bit like you're inside someone's home as there are different 'rooms' giving it a nice intimate feel. The staff are smart and effective without being pushy and they really know their food.

And it's not expensive either...you pay exactly what you would expect in a good city centre restaurant. It does get very busy...just proof once more that it is so good. To my knowledge, you can't book which is the case in many Brighton restaurants particularly at the weekend so get there early to avoid disappointment.

I've been there with many of my meat-eating friends and family members and they all loved it too. You really do have to go and see for yourself...

Review of Hove Tandoori

17 Apr 08, 08:15

Funky Indian Restaurant 3*

I guess you'd call Hove Tandoori a 'contemporary' Indian restaurant. It's all wooden floors and white walls and big vases with twigs in. Not your usual heavy velour seating and flock wallpaper.

The food is good...but not much different to any other Indian restaurant and the service is decent too. The only problem with Hove Tandoori is the size of the place and how many tables they've crammed in there. You can often feel like you're sharing a table with complete strangers.

Don't write it off though...it has a nice relaxed feel to it and because of the whole minimalist decor thing it feels very clean and hygenic too.

Review of Pizza Express Restaurants

17 Apr 08, 07:46

They're not all the same! 4*

Ok, ok you know what you're going to get when you go to a Pizza Express but the one up the road from me in Hove is really very good.

I've eaten in a fair few branches in my 33 years but the pizzas here just seem better than the rest. I was there last night...a dish of olives whilst browsing over the menu...dough balls to start and then my favourite Fiorentina pizza (although I have it without the egg). It was all gorgeous although I do stink of garlic today! Stay back.

The service is excellent too...plenty of staff on hand so you're never left hanging on. And of course it's very reasonable...all in all the perfect place to head to if you just simply can't be arsed to cook one night.

Review of Cissy Mo

16 Apr 08, 10:02

Quirky gifts... 4*

...aplenty!

This is a great gift shop if you need to buy something for a mate with an odd sense of humour. They've got a nice selection of cards too...and not the run-of-the-mill kind either. In fact some of them are downright offensive but very amusing.

My most recent purchases at Cissy Mo consisted of a make up bag decorated with hamsters and acorns...a plastic gun that fires small plastic nuns and a BA Baracas birthday card. Each recipient was delighted with their gift...well they appeared to be anyway.

The lovely lady that works there is very helpful too but leaves you alone to browse around at your leisure.

Review of Hove Place

16 Apr 08, 09:53

It's all about the garden. 4*

This is my local...and a damn fine one it is too. You feel a bit like you're going into some underground carvern as you take the steps down into the pub but it's not like that at all inside. It's got three 'sections' to it...the middle bit is the busier bar area where people tend to stand in groups to do their drinking. The other two areas are cosier with plenty of tables and chairs.

Hove Place is at its best when the sun is out though...the garden is really gorgeous with tons of seating and umbrellas and little heated areas for the smokers. I've only ever eaten dessert there...I think it was some kind of gooey chocolate brownie and I wasn't disappointed. I really must try the rest of the food someday...

Oh and one more thing...they were very kind to me when I left without paying once. They did have my card behind the bar but found the whole thing amusing nonetheless!
