Review of Filthy Macnastys

11 May 07, 09:27

Good musical clientel, nice beer, bit difficult to find 3*

Aside from having possibly the coolest name for a pub ever, Filthy MacNasty's has quite a bit going for it. Frequented by famous musicians from across the spectrum of rock history, it has a clientel worthy of praise. Compact and smokey, and with some great choices of beer, it is also a great cult place to relax in. It's a labour of love to find this place, a bit off the urban track and so on, but if anything, that just makes it extra special. The people who are there, want to be at that particular pub, and to me, that makes it even more brilliant.

Pokey Little Pub 2*

A very pokey little pub around the corner from the high street. It's ok as a pub but it just doesn't have a good atmosphere. It's mostly a young crowd here but its rarely ever busy I find. They do have a Karaoke and Quiz Night midweek but I find this is mostly swamped by the employees of safeways around the corner. Drinks are cheap but the selection is not huge. I've only been on a weekday so it might be better on a weekend but i wouldn't make an effort to go here again.

Review of Cineworld

Medium Sized Cinema 3*

Cineworld in Wood Green is inside the Shopping City complex. Its a good cinema with quite few screens. It's really no different to your average Odeon cinema, clean, lively crowds and fairly expensive tickets especially on a weekend. They only play the big films so if thats what you like you should have a good time.

Bland Crouch End Pub 2*

An ok pub on the road down to the centre of crouch end. Its quiet and doesnt have an atmosphere. Just a bland average old pub with cheap(ish) beers. If you are looking for a quiet drink in crouch end then go here. They have a food menu as well which looks reasonable. As long as you go here not looking for anything special you should be fine with this pub.

Review of Next

A small store, but friendly and with some good jeans 4*

Based near Waitrose in the Canary Wharf shopping area, and prominant in it's display, this branch of the Next Clothing firm is actually remarkably small. Cramped and bustling with activity, it provides much of the same clothes as other stores, although with slightly less quantities. When I popped in as the January Sales began to wind down, it was genuinely amazing to see just how empty this store looked. Devoid of a lot of stock, it felt like the place had been swarming with clothes buying locusts. I guess no matter how small a store might be, when it is warm and inviting, it'll still bring in the customers.

Review of PizzaExpress

Slow and forgetful staff ruin this place 2*

A very small dimly lit restaurant. The menu choice as usual at pizza express was quite varied with a wide range of pastas and pizzas. The wine list was fair with prices around average for a bottle of house wine. However service at this particular restaurant was poor with the initial waitress taking our order and then seemingly forgetting us. The 2nd waitress however did remember to bring our orders however service was very slow. Not the best of the franchise.

Review of The White Swan

Highbury's Weatherspoons 2*

Another weatherspoons pub, about 30 seconds walk away from the Highbury and Islington tube. Busy on a friday and saturday which is the only time when it has any atmosphere. As with all weatherspoons its cheap and clean compared to a lot of other pubs but on weekdays its quiet and soulless. Its not a bad pub, it just doesnt have any character about it or anything different about it. If you do go, go for an early pint on a friday or saturday evening.

Review of Odeon Leicester Square

03 May 07, 11:10

Incredibly expensive, but THE cinema of London 4*

Based in the centre of Leicester Square, this branch of the Odeon cinema chain is perhaps the finest cinema in London. A lot more expensive than any other Odeon in London, this Leicester Square is magnificant. Absolutely massive with a great spread of films, it really is an enjoyable experience to visit this place. It's hard to know what else to say about this cinema. Spread out brilliantly with a wide selection of films and a nice little area for watching trailers, it's superb. Pop on over today.

Review of Lees

02 May 07, 15:33

Small and friendly, but something doesn't feel right 2*

Based in a small shed down Hornsey Road, Lees Lettings is a unique estate agents. Friendly and laid back, Lee himself is a quality guy and a good laugh. This unfortunately doesn't mean the business is good. Small and compact, there is something wrong about this place. Almost like you are being hurried through, often the emphasis isn't on the buyer but more on the seller. To me, that's not what an estate agents should be like. Something just doesn't click when you use this place, and that is a shame. Led by the friendly Lee, it has potential, but the attitude isn't perfect.
