Review of Cobella AC

In safe hands 4*

I recently had my hair cut and coloured here and it was a relaxing, painless experience. Despite being in Selfridges, the salon is an oasis of calm. My colour was great, unbrassy and blow dried to perfection. 10 points.

Review of Kings Road Sporting Club

Bikini Central 4*

I hate sport. So the only reason I have for entering this sports emporium is to buy holiday swimwear. And this is the place for bikini buying. The range of bikinis is, I think, one of the best in London. Sensible swimmers, frivolous two pieces, the lot. Definitely worth a visit.

Review of Knightsbridge Nails & Beauty

Dodgey fake tan 1*

I had the worst st tropez spray tan ever here. Stained my hands for days - they didn't use barrier cream. It was a total disaster. I had to go back and get a refund, which they were reluctant to give! Watch out.

Review of The Duke of Clarence

Another excellent pub 4*

I seem to be reviewing an awful lot of pubs! This is another good one, they used to do a fun quiz on Tuesday nights which was always a great laugh , think quizzes should be played more often , let's bring back the quiz night!?? Great food. Cosy Decor and roaring fires. Usual gastro grub but nice atmosphere. It's a young crowd here. Good place to go for Sunday lunch but it does get busy. I don't recommend the seats outside, even though they look pretty and continental , the road is too busy for it to be an enjoyable experience!

Review of The Ifield

15 May 07, 14:16

My Favourite Pub 5*

I used to live opposite the Ifield when I first moved to London and my flatmate and i made the pub our second home. It's dark (flattering candlelight, lots of nice corners)and has a cosy wintery feel all year round, quiet (never rowdy, even when the chelsea matches are on) and the food is excellent. You can't beat the duck salad followed by fish n chips. I'm aware that some of my love for this place might be purely sentimental, but most people I've taken there love it also. Sunday lunch gets busy so book a table in advance!

Review of Electric Cinema

15 May 07, 13:21

Cinema in Style 3*

I remember when I first moved to London from the provinces The Electric was considered a cool hangout. And it's still an awful lot of fun. I'm surprised more people haven't copied the idea. Cinema going is certainly a great deal more comfortable here than in your local UGC where you have to snuggle up to the sinister stranger next to you and suffer the chewing gum decorated nylon seats. Here, you can have wine and food, relax in an enormous chair (or sofa if this is date number 3?) and really concentrate on the film. It goes without saying that UGC is a bargain in comparison. But can you put a price on art appreciation

Review of All Saints

Get Your Kit On 4*

I rather like All Saints. Hate all the branded stuff - skulls and jesus and stuff. Not a good look. But the womenswear, the dresses and the sailor/pirate jackets are really well cut, using interesting fabric and, importantly not like anything you'll find in any other high street store. Wait for the sales - they really slash the prices.

Review of Bertorellis

Used to be a good italian 1*

I used to love this place. Affordable, good atmosphere, always bustling and open late. I still love the fried zucchini and the mash which is excellent. Less brilliant is the service, which on my last visit was shockingly bad. We had to wait an age to order, be served and even to clap eyes on the bill. A shame. I won't be going back soon.

Review of Sophies Steakhouse Bar

12 May 07, 22:16

Best mash potato in London 4*

I love Sophies. Hate the no booking policy as this restaurant is always rammed so you have to time it right. Best mash potato in town. Have one of the hardcore cosmopolitans at the bar while you wait and waiting suddenly doesn't seem so bad after all. Love the steak salad. There are some shockingly bad tables. One in the middle which is right in the thoroughfare and means one of your party will get up close and personal with all the waiting staff by the end of the evening, and the other (for 2 ) right by the kitchen. You may as well cook your own supper if you end up there. I have never had a bad evening at this restaurant.

Review of Massimo Dutti

12 May 07, 12:55

Dress Up 3*

I first discovered this store when I was in Tuscany on holiday. 16 years old. I bought a black jersey cocktail dress which for years was the best ever item I owned. I've loved them ever since and was thrilled when they opened stores in London a few years ago. The branch in Knightsbridge is quite small. Womenswear is downstairs and divided between formal and more casual clothes. I still think they do cocktail dresses better than most highstreet stores , particularly at Christmas. If you want something a bit different from the standard copies then it's worth checking Massimo Dutti out.
