Review of Wonderful Take Away Food Shops

Simply Wonderful 5*

Wonderful by name and definitely wonderful by nature - this is one takeaway where the emphasis is on wonderment. They do the most amazing food, the staff are as down to earth as it is possible to be, and the place is clean and welcoming, so definitely I would say it is Wonderful.

Review of The Little Fairy Shop

Fairy Magic 5*

Little girls will love this place - it's like a disney princess palace filled with girlie toys, dolls, dressing up costumes and everything girls love. You will feel like a child again and experience it through your little 'un's eyes. Well worth a visit, although arguably the disney store's better.

Review of Fresh Pizza

Fresh and very tasty 5*

Wow this place really knows how to make pizza - it's mouthwateringly fresh and incredibly yummy - nice juicy tomatoes, perfectly melted cheese and nice cuts of chicken breast on my pizza, none of the stringy rubbish of cheaper places.

Review of Caspians Pizzas

Prince Caspian's Finest 5*

You don't need to vnture to Narnia to get a magic pizza, this place does the trick although I dont understand why it's called Caspian's because there's no Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe theme here. Even so, you're guaranteed a great pizza here so if your stomach's saying dinner time your feet should be heading this way.

Golli Gosh 5*

This is one of the best pizza takeaways I have ever experienced - order the 4 cheese pizza and I guarantee you wont be disappointed. My partner ordered a Mushroom Feast with extra mushrooms and was astonished by the amount of the mushroom topping she had. It was like a whole field of fungi.

Review of Deep Pan Pizza Co

24 Apr 08, 12:28

Buffet value 5*

Unlike Pizza Hut, the Deep Pan Pizza Company continue their buffet all evening so it's actually a really cheap place to eat out if you have the appetite of a horse which I do. To be honest, the quality of the buffet pizzas isnt quite as high as Pizza Hut and they can be a bit cardboardy if they have been out for a while but if you eat up they will bring fresh ones out. Wish they had a branch in Milton keynes where I now live.

The X Factor 5*

This is one of the best things about MK - as you can see by the way so many people from as far afield as Bedford have reviewed it, it's clearly one of the best things about this region. Massive multiplex cinema, ski slope, airkix, some great restaurants (check the deals at La Tasca - all you can eat on tapas for a tenner) and of course, the climbing wall, music shop, Virgin Active, Oceana... the list goes on. No visit to MK is complete without venturing within it's lofty heights.

Essential Headingley Supermarket 5*

This is where EVERYONE shops in Headingley! So you always see someone you know. First it was Safeways then it was Morrisons and now its Somerfield. I havent been in since it changed but they used to have a real clay pizza oven and cook the pizza in front of you while you waited. If only all supermarkets had these. The staff on the checkout are always extremely attractive.

Review of Asda Stores

HUGE!! 5*

This is enormous, and on two levels - you have to walk down a gladiators style travelator to reach the bottom floor, and the temptation is always there to run down the wrong side of the travelator singing the theme tune... anyway it's great and clever because the supermarket stuff is upstairs and if you want 'advanced' goods you can go downstairs for them. Best for special occasions like halloween when I managed to find loads of amazing stuff for my party all of which was from their American Walmart sister store.

Pukka Sainsburys 5*

This is a great store, handily next to a massive shopping centre, you can walk right through to the White Rose Centre, or just come to buy your weekly shopping. Big but not too big, well organised so its easy to find what you need, and with helpful friendly staff it's a great example of how supermarkets should be. Top marks.

The World In One Store 5*

This is a unique store! They sell food from everywhere in the world except maybe England!! Seriously, if you want to cook an authentic curry or genuine chinese food this will stock it all. It's also good for novelty Christmas presents. My Dad still laughs at the time he unwrapped a can of "Whole Moong" - we never worked out who or what the Moong was. And we never dared to open the can.

Review of Asda Superstore

22 Apr 08, 23:13

Huge Superstore 5*

At 110,000 square feet this is the largest Walmart in Europe... 2000 trolleys, 1000 parking spaces, it's hard to imagine just how big this place is! But it's so well laid out you'll find your way round with ease. Asda Bletchley is next to the new MK Dons stadium and has two entrances, one at the supermarket end and the other at the George fashion and homeware side.

Prices are extremely competitive and the selection of products is, as you can imagine, vast. From food to homeware, clothes to CDs and even musical instruments and furniture!

Worth A Try! 5*

I was slightly scared about going to this place having heard some horror stories but I was pleasantly surprised after giving it a try. My friend Paul Holmes was a little over dressed in his suit jacket and he seemed confused by the whole thing - I think he was expecting some romantic chemistry. But this is not somewhere you would go to pull. However desperate you became. Instead it's somewhere you go to get really drunk. And it certainly delivers on that. You pay once then all the drinks are free. I was drinking Cherry VK (or something very similar) and my lips actually turned a lovely shade of red! It shuts a bit early - at 2am, just when it's starting to get going, but this seems to be late enough for most people. The 'free' drinks are conditional on holding on to your bottle and being able to stand unassisted at the bar. From bottled beer and alcopops through to a complete range of spirits with mixers you cant go wrong. I was particulrly impressed that the decor inside was actually quite smart and not dissimilar to a normal nightclub. The only thing that put me off slightly was the machine by the bar where the guys had to hit the punchbag as hard as possible to score points, and they spent all night walloping this thing it made me slightly scared what would happen if they kept drinking and became annoyed by someone! Overall a fine night out and definitely worth sheding your preconceptions and giving it a go - but leave your dignity at the home as well.

Top Party Place 5*

This is the place everyone heads to for a night out on the town in margate. it's just a massive pub near the seafront with several rooms and loud clubby music and a dancefloor, but always on the cheesy side of credibility, it's hard not to have a good night here and even harder not to pull!

Amazing value ina Harvester - every main course comes complete with unlimited amounts of tasty fresh salad and the food is so cheap it's amazing value, plus really nice interior and friendly staff who wear checked shirts which can never be a negative point. Check out their early bird menu which has 1/3 off most things on the menu. Excellent.

This is a really nice chinese takeaway - really excellent quality food at a fair (if slightly above average) price. Service is very quick and professional and they take enormous pride in the quality of their food - they will remember you next time you come in and ask you how your meal was last time. Now that's what I call good service.

Book Me In! 5*

This is the place where I fell in love with books. For a while. It wore off in the end. But it's a massive well stocked library where nowadays they also have internet access, CDs and DVDs to borrow and a great selection of reference books. Libraries have a place in the digital age. And that place is Broadstairs.

Lovely Old Fashioned Cinema 5*

This is a gorgeous traditional little cinema and it's great it's still in business because I always thought it would close down!! It's no multiplex, just a couple of screens showing films that were on general release a few weeks earlier, and the prices are very affordable. Lovely for feeling like you've stepped back in time to a simpler and slightly less sanitised age.

Smiley Cars, run by the Smilie family, are a family business which provides the cheapest and happiest taxi service on planet thanet! You'll be assured a friendly and prompt response and they can be relied on in an emergency. I worked for them when I was 14 as a taxi controller and was paid £1.55 an hour. How times have changed. Now I get more than double that.

Review of Pizza Hut

20 Apr 08, 23:16

One of my favourite pizza huts 5*

I think I have visited this branch of Pizza Hut more than any other, and if you knew how much pizza I eat that's saying something! I met the manager once and she prides herself on the quality of the pizzas on the lunchtime buffet. This is important because not every pizza hut is the same and it's all about attention to detail. This one is very well managed and you can tell when you go there. They have a nice newish restaurant on a little retail park in Oldham and it's not too busy, Just avoid during half term!

Fantastic Value 5*

This is a superb place to buy furniture. It's cheap and good quality and because it's a less well known store you won't find your friends recognise your furniture as coming from Ikea for example. I bought a wardrobe from here and I am still really pleased with it, although building it was a major mission! Go and have a look round because they might just have what you're after. Best for wardrobes, bedside tables, bookcases and chests of drawers.

I needed to find a frumpy dress for a costume and thought I'd look in a charity shop but ironically I couldnt find anything fumpy enough!! It was all too nice. I ended up buying a very nice denim jacket instead!

Marvellous Art Shop 5*

I searched the whole country to try and find a limited edition canvas print and found it here in the end. They reserved it for me, delivered it for free and even put it up on the wall for me. When I went into the shop to pay for it they were really helpful and there were so many other lovely works that I would have loved to buy if I could afford it. And the size of the place enables them to display many works on the walls so it's easy to find something you like. I particularly liked the amazing glass artworks which are hard to describe but when you see them they totally blow you away!

Review of Sala Thai Restaurant

Best Thai Restaurant In The UK! 5*

This is not just a restaurant - it's an experience. Set back from the road in a big old house that looks like a stately home, this palacial restarant serves the best thai food I've tasted in the UK. With genuine thai staff and chefs it's a real taste of Thailand. I recommend the thai yellow curry but be warned with authenticity comes a lot of fire - it's seriously spicy!

Extraordinary 5*

This is the most amazing place - enormous, cavernous superclub in the style of somewhere like Manumission. When it first opened the laser show was cutting edge and the carpets and chrome were very cool but now it's a little bit tatty and sad but sometimes you can walk through to Jumpin Jaks and get some variety. Definitely worth experiencing but pick your night carefully - studenty midweek, chavvier at the weekend.

It's an urban myth in Leeds that the Beatles wrote their song after visiting this place. It could be true. This is one of those places where you feel like you're cool just cos you're there! It's full of funky bohemian types chilling to ambient underground breakbeats, hanging loose on uber-cool furniture and looking like they're too cool to make an effort. But it's welcoming and easy to relax here.

Revolving Dancefloor! 5*

Very similar concept to Baja Beach Club but this one wins I think because it's cheaper and a lot more fun. The revolving dancefloor has been a legend in Leeds since this place was called Planet Earth and it's still hilarious to watch the carnage when someone falls over trying to get on or off it! Hilarious. Expect bar staff in bikinis and much messyness!

Essential For Summer Drinks 5*

I have spent far too many summer evenings drinking in the courtyard! It's in the middle of Leeds and there's a long indoor bar and then a courtyard area with heaters where you can sit on benches and chat while the music plays - usually pretty chilled out house music from the DJ inside. Highly recommended.

Perfect Pool Place 5*

Like no other, this is a very clever combination of trendy, funky cocktail bar and pool hall based on the Elbow Room in London. Very cool hangout for some of the nicest people in Leeds and a great place to pose while you pot some balls. They also have some brilliant DJs playing down there so you can have a great night and they used to do a night where you bring your iPod and you can take a turn to play your own tunes for a bit. Cool idea, very cool place.

THE WORLD'S BEST BAR! 5*

I'm not joking - this is the best bar in the world! Amazing. You just cant describe the atmosphere. Cocktails. Rocknroll. Really nice bar staff. Nice customers. And in the summer they somehow remove the glass from the front of the bar and you can just sit and chat through the window to people walking past. It's the place to find the coolest people in Leeds - Chris Moyles drinks there, as do Leeds United footballers and most of the Galaxy 105 presenters. If you havent experienced it, you need to go there tonight. So turn your computer off and go there now, OK?

Isn't Headingley great? You have one of the best old fashioned pubs in the Oak and round the corner one of the coolest modern places in the Arc. It was done up a few years ago and since then it's THE place to be seen. And you can definitely be seen because the whole curved front of the building's glass so as you walk past you can see everyone on two levels having fun and it's almost impossible to not go in! Downstairs there's a little restaurant area where they do brilliant pizza deals and they also do a pizza and cinema deal which is great. And upstairs there's a comfy chill out area. Top marks!

Review of The Original Oak

19 Apr 08, 13:38

Best Pub In Headingley 5*

There's always been a debate as to whether the Oak of the Skyrack is best but this place wins hands down I reckon. If it's sunny, the bowling green at the back is absolutely packed with students drinking and eating the barbeque food and there's such a great atmosphere. Inside, it's traditional and huge - 2 main floors and a little room at the top where they have comedy nights and private functions. It's just somewhere where if you're a student in Leeds you will always find someone you know. Worth avoiding if there's sport on because it will be packed but otherwise it's a great place for a pint at any time of the day or night!

Brilliant Pub Grub 5*

This is a great place to come for lunch. It's on the main road into manchester so you have to drive there really so there's not many drunks in here and the decor is amazing - loads of old wooden wagon wheels on the walls, exposed oak beams and the right level of lighting so you feel like you've stepped back in time to a nice country pub a few hundred years ago. Upstairs is a restaurant area where they serve really nice food at reasonable prices.

You cant go wrong with Tokyo's - fair play to Aaron and the team for making this what it is - with well defined nights like Clint Boon's Inspiral Clubnight and regular Hed Kandi events it's credible but at the same time you feel welcome and everyone's very friendly. Too Nice For Oldham? 5*

Everyone was saying when this place opened that it was 'too nice' for Oldham - it's the kind of place you'd find in the centre of manchester full of trendies but it's become popular with a slightly classier clientelle than you'd get across the road in the litten tree,.. the decor is authentically buddhist / eastern influenced with little plasma screens showing fashion tv all over the place and there's a giant statue of buddha at the bottom of the stairs. I'm not sure if Buddhists would approve of this but it really looks impressive. Upstairs is the best because there's lots of places to sit down and have a chat.

Unusual Curry Cafe 5*

The difference with Cafe Lahore is they have reinvented indian food. The concept is that they are bringing the traditional indian way of cooking curry on the street to the UK so you choose your meat from a selection of marinated skewers then select a sauce and they cook it in front of you in the wok then put it in a massive naan bread for you to enjoy. The beauty of this is you can pop in for a quick lunch and it's so tasty!! Speedy and modern but you still feel like you've been somewhere nice.

Curry Paradise 5*

The reviewer above is absolutely right - this is the BEST curry restaurant in the UK. I wish I still lived in Leeds because I used to go here all the time. Traditional decor, really nice inside, polite staff and of course, perfectly prepared and presented food. My favourite being Chicken Tikka Masala - they use tender cuts of chicken, well marinaded in tandoori spices and then cooked to perfection with a delicious creamy sauce. Just amazing. And such a nice place to come at the end of a big night enjoying the amazing Leeds nightlife.

God bless this gym 5*

I was a member of this gym when I lived in Leeds and I wish I still did cos it's so much nicer than the virgin where I live now. The best thing is the spa room with waterfalls, a huge jacuzzi pool, saunas and steam rooms, a solarium and a special shower which is supposed to be like 'tropical rain' - it falls in big warm droplets from the ceiling. Just luxury! Never did much working out but it was soooo relaxing!! It's on Cardigan Fields near what's now a Vue cinema, a bowling alley and some nice places to eat so you can reward yourself after your workout. Only negative is it's sometimes hard to find somewhere to park near the gym so you have to walk, but I guess it's all exercise!

Drinks are much more affordable and they do a great food menu so if you want some nice tasty pub grub tuck in. OK, so it's probably all microwaved but at these prices you can hardly complain. Decor is smart but not pretentuious and when you go upstairs to the toilets you're in for a very pleasant surprise. Somebody blew the budget on the loos, cos they are very nice indeed - ubercool and heavily chrome it makes you want to visit them again and again, which on a night in this pub is par for the course.

Review of Pink Punters

If Heaven Was Pink 5*

Grab your glad rags and get ready for the most outrageous night you've ever had! Pinks is an MK legend... from the camp disco upstairs to the forest of poles downstairs which are just asking to be spun on, it's An Experience!! And no mistake. Expect to see drag queens rubbing shoulder with the beautiful people... and a mix of all ages and sexualities just having a great time together. Open really late and well worth a spontaneous taxi ride when you've had enough of the theatre district on a Saturday night!

What Lies Beneath 5*

I took my girlfriend here and we had a lovely day out. Tickets are a bit pricey and it doesnt open late which is a real shame because it meant we had to rush round but it's amazing to see the view from under the water through the windows. It's as if you're deep sea diving in the most amazing tropical waters. And seeing sharks and stingrays without the danger is something everyone should experience in their lifetime.

Review of The Fountain Harvester

18 Apr 08, 23:00

Just Brilliant! 5*

I'm not sure I can find the words to express how much I love this place. But I will try. Its a really old pub with a lot of history that's now a Harvester restaurant. And there are two great things about Harvesters.

Thing 1: Before 6,30pm they have an Early Bird Menu which is 1/3 off everything.

Thing 2: The salad cart which is included free with every main course. Oh my god. It's amazing. Always fresh juicy and UNLIMITED. Yes, you can just keep going back as often as you like and the best thing is the blue cheese sauce which is just beyond dreams! Not joking.

I've even joined a group on Facebook called "I love the Harvester salad cart". I really do.

Now, be warned, you wont be able to finish your meal. Even if you have the biggest appetite ever because you will gorge yourself on so much salad. And because it's fresh fruit and veg it's guilt free eating.

Seriously, check it out - you wont be disappointed.

Review of Lloyds No. 1 Bar

Number One. Definitely. 5*

This is the best place to go out in the Theatre District, I reckon. It's got a slightly older, cooler crowd and the music's great. Usually everyone is queueing at the bar so it can take ages to get served but you wont be complaining cos the drinks are pretty reasonable, they do good cocktails and we always have a good night when we go there. Definitely recommended.

Review of Big Yellow Self Storage

18 Apr 08, 17:04

Bananatastic 5*

It's called Big Yellow for a reason. Everything's yellow. The doors, the floors, the ceilings, the storage units. It's like an accident in a custard factory. But if you need to store stuff cheaply, cleanly and safely it can't be beaten. I had a storage unit there for a couple of months and found it very easy to set up and use, they provide handy trolleys to use to move your stuff around and it's open long hours so it's easy to get in and out. You have to provide your own padlock though and beware because the trolleys are a bit hard to steer so I managed to dent the side of the wall when one went a bit out of control!

Review of Airkix Indoor Skydiving

You Can Fly! Literally. 5*

I think it was Westlife who dreamed of Flying Without Wings and now the dream is reality at Airkix. The secret? A massive fan which blows up the tower so you "fly". It's hard not to imagine the Superman theme in your head, the only difference being they refused to let me do it in blue tights. You only get about 90 seconds at a time in the tunnel which doesnt sound much but when you do it you realise your body would just die if you stayed in there much longer, the forces involved are immense. The instructors are very helpful and costumes are provided with webbed limbs. Price isnt cheap but as a treat it's hard to beat. Worth checking before hand if you are obese as the hatch is quite small.

Review of Midsummer Place Shopping Centre

The Fashionable Quarter 5*

Wow - if you love fashion you will adore this place. It's got loads of shops with all the latest trends. I'm not that trendy though so I just like the big tree in the middle and the concrete cows which are something you must see if you're visiting Milton Keynes. My favourite shops are the amazing new Apple shop - all white and modernist with some amazing kit that I wish I could afford. And the pretzel shop which does superyummy pretzels. And the amazing mechanical clock which has golden orbs which eerily roll along a track... hard to explain but worth checking out - your kids will be transfixed.

Review of Gunmakers At The Royal Armouries

All Guns Blazing! 5*

Many have criticised this place for promoting war. Personally, I absolutely LOVE seeing all the guns (I'm a big fan of firearms) and I think learning about history puts current conflicts in context. Plus it's a good way of teaching children what war is all about and hopefully persuading them to sign up for the army to fight for our great country. Top marks for a top place!

Currytastic 5*

If you love quality indian food but also want to go somewhere a bit posh this is a great place to head. The food can't be faulted but the real difference is the modern decor - definitely not what you expect from a curry restaurant. And the quality of staff and service is second to none. It's great to have a place that can deliver quality indian food and great levels of service at the same time. First class!

Review of Milton Keynes Gallery

Not just for art buffs 5*

Even if you wouldnt consider yourself an art fan, you need to experience MK Gallery. It's actually really accessible and you might be surprised how much you enjoy it. They regularly change the exhibitions so it's worth checking their website to see what's on, but I have been really impressed and challenged by some of the works I have seen there. Well worth a visit and with it being free admission you'd need a good reason not to!

Review of Milton Keynes Theatre

Luvvie Place 5*

Everything I've seen here has been outstanding - we're so lucky to have such a nice theatre on our doorstep and we often get west end shows trying out before they go to London. Recently Zorro and Never Forget (the Take That musical) were excellent. I heard good things about Equus (my friend saw Lily Allen's brother's "Alfie Junior" during this show). And the annual panto is brilliant family fun. Top marks for MK Theatre!

Review of Bannatyne's Health Club

Duncan Dares 5*

Used to be called Livingwell but they changed their name in 2007.

OK I needed to join a gym and I had a choice of Bannatynes or Virgin Active. I looked at them both and I picked this one for a couple of reasons:

- The pool is bigger - They have a nicer spa area - Changing rooms are nicer - It's cheaper to join (about 7 quid cheaper actually) - It's nearer my flat.

OK, so that last point might not be that helpful.

My good friend Becks goes to Virgin and she tells me it's full of footballers and kids so if that's your thing, maybe that would be better but I have been going to Bannatynes for a month now, I can always get on the equipment, the people are helpful especially Steff my trainer, and the winter garden outside is really nice - it's a big greenhouse with fish and palm trees and much vegetation.

I havent seen Duncan Bannatyne there yet but they sell his book in reception. Yes, they really do.

Review of Tate Modern

Art. Or is it? 5*

This is an art gallery. Or on the other hand, it's just a load of pretentious twaddle. Depends on your perspective. But the debate's fun. Seriously, works of art here include:

- A urinal - A glass of water - A map of the london underground with all the station names wrong - Several screenprinted rectangles in different colours - An unmade bed - Half a cow (dead)

Oh and they also have these cool slides that you can go on if you buy your ticket a few days before - er, as if that's going to happen.

So if you dont get to have a go on the slides, you may be less receptive to the glass of water and the urinal. Fortunately they are in different parts of the gallery otheriwise I can foresee how accidents could happen.

The gallery shop's excellent btw - some really good prints and I bought a glass which tells you how many gulps, sips or swallows you have left - it's art, darling.

Oh and the best thing? It's free to get in.

Totally.

Review of Las Iguanas

Latin Flavour! 5*

This is my favourite restaurant in MK. The food is amazing - it's cooked with authentic South American spices. The atmosphere's just like being on holiday with latin music and really nicely decorated. The cocktails are amazing - check out Caiprinha made with Cacaca rum and fresh limes muddled with sugar and ice... and foodwise, Xinxim chicken is a must-try - amazing creamy peanutty chicken in a sauce with rice and plantain (sweet potaoey things - never had them before!). So whether you're after a happy hour cocktail (and they're half price all evening on a Sunday - yay) or some amazing and unusual food - this is my top recommendation in MK! I would live there if I was allowed... well I almost do cos I live right opposite. :)
