Review of Somerfield

Essential Headingley Supermarket 5*

This is where EVERYONE shops in Headingley! So you always see someone you know. First it was Safeways then it was Morrisons and now its Somerfield. I havent been in since it changed but they used to have a real clay pizza oven and cook the pizza in front of you while you waited. If only all supermarkets had these. The staff on the checkout are always extremely attractive.

Review of Pizza House Co

Better than average takeaway 4*

While you could say dont judge a pizza by the box, in this case it's not a bad move. The branding of this local pizza takeaway is so professional I thought it was part of a national chain. But it's not. However the quality of the product is far superior to what you expect from a local pizza takeaway - you wont be disappointed.

Good Food But Too Small 3*

The food here is excellent so top marks to the team however they cram way too many tables in so you feel a bit claustrophobic. It can also be quite warm inside. However the number of customers is testament to the popularity of this restaurant and the quality of the cuisine. Recommended dishes: gnocci, four seasons pizza and the amazing calzone.

Review of Sala Thai Restaurant

Best Thai Restaurant In The UK! 5*

This is not just a restaurant - it's an experience. Set back from the road in a big old house that looks like a stately home, this palacial restarant serves the best thai food I've tasted in the UK. With genuine thai staff and chefs it's a real taste of Thailand. I recommend the thai yellow curry but be warned with authenticity comes a lot of fire - it's seriously spicy!

Review of Bretts Fish Restaurant

Great little chippy 4*

So easy to run in and grab some tasty fish and chips as you're out in Headingley. It's down a little path near the Nat West on North Lane. Very small inside so you often have to queue through the door, but the food never disappoints and the staff are really friendly. It also feels like it has a lot of history too.

Review of The First Tee Discount Golf Shop

20 Apr 08, 17:50

Top Tee 4*

Great range of golfing equipment and accessories and easy to find. This is a great place to come whether you're a serious golfer or a keen beginner and the great thing is their range goes right up to the best quality clubs that you would expect from a specialist shop. Also good for buying gifts for a golf loving relative!

Review of Gangsters Take Away Food Shops

Brilliant takeaway 5*

From the tom & jerry design on the outside to the fresh, clean interior you know this pizza shop's a bit different. And it is - pizza hut quality at normal takeaway prices and they also do burgers and kebabs. Well worth checking out if you live in the Headingley area or are passing by.

Fun Downstairs 4*

This is a restaurant on two levels and an underground bar. I havent been to the restaurant but the bar is a lot of fun. Everyone's sat on long sofas along the walls which are made of velvet so you can write messages on them with your fingers. And it's hilarious to see what people write. And also slightly dangerous as my friend Ziffy nearly got into a fight by writing some well observed wit about one of our fellow drinkers on the wall behind him. Drinks are a bit pricey so worth going when they have offers on but it's a lovely atmosphere and easy to meet people.

Review of The Box

Box Of Delights 4*

This is a really unique place. It's called the box because it's basically a cube with the downstairs area taken up with long benches so you end up sat next to someone and its really easy to make friends. Upstairs is a bit crowded and there's a pool table. But it's a nice place to stop off at between the Oak and Arc!

Noah Problem! 5*

Isn't Headingley great? You have one of the best old fashioned pubs in the Oak and round the corner one of the coolest modern places in the Arc. It was done up a few years ago and since then it's THE place to be seen. And you can definitely be seen because the whole curved front of the building's glass so as you walk past you can see everyone on two levels having fun and it's almost impossible to not go in! Downstairs there's a little restaurant area where they do brilliant pizza deals and they also do a pizza and cinema deal which is great. And upstairs there's a comfy chill out area. Top marks!

Review of Headingley Taps

Great pub - great carpark! 4*

I love the bar and I love the fact that you can very easily park your car right outside when you're going shopping or to the cinema. And if you're drinking, it will still be there the next morning! This pub looks like something from India from the outside with it's strange pointy archetecture but actually it's pretty normal inside. Very basic, not much decoration, just a bar, tables and cheap beer. But what more could you ask for? The front entrance is always full of people drinking in the sunshine in the Summer, and it's a lovely atmosphere.

Review of Skyrack

Studentville 4*

Opposite the Original Oak (which is much better by the way!) this is another bar which is almost exclusively students. Not that this is a bad thing. It doesnt have the beer garden that the Oak has but it's similar inside. Traditional, simple, cheap and friendly. And they also show sport on big screens.

Review of The Original Oak

19 Apr 08, 14:38

Best Pub In Headingley 5*

There's always been a debate as to whether the Oak of the Skyrack is best but this place wins hands down I reckon. If it's sunny, the bowling green at the back is absolutely packed with students drinking and eating the barbeque food and there's such a great atmosphere. Inside, it's traditional and huge - 2 main floors and a little room at the top where they have comedy nights and private functions. It's just somewhere where if you're a student in Leeds you will always find someone you know. Worth avoiding if there's sport on because it will be packed but otherwise it's a great place for a pint at any time of the day or night!
