Review of The Shop

Great Discount Store
This shop sells loads of random items all at really good prices - you can get whetever you are looking for at a really good price and the great thing is that if they dont sell what you want they will be happy to direct you to a shop that does sell it.

Review of Maumoniat International Supermarket

The World In One Store
This is a unique store! They sell food from everywhere in the world except maybe England!! Seriously, if you want to cook an authentic curry or genuine chinese food this will stock it all. It's also good for novelty Christmas presents. My Dad still laughs at the time he unwrapped a can of "Whole Moong" - we never worked out who or what the Moong was. And we never dared to open the can.

Review of Safeway
23 Apr 08, 00:30
Now A Morrisons
Morrisons took over Safeways and now all the stores are Morrisons. Which is a shame because I preferred it when it was Safeways. This busy little store is in the middle of Leeds pedestrianised area and hard to get to by car, unless you want to pay to park, so I'm not really sure who actually shops here. It's OK inside, but nothing special.

Review of Morrisons

Busy Busy Busy
Always a nightmare to get round with narrow aisles and way too many people whatever time it is, and long queues at the tills, this is the busiest supermarket I've ever seen, and that's not a compliment. Seriously, go into Headinley and you'll have a much better experience. Oh and the carpark underneath charge you unless you spend over a tenner which is stupid.

Tasty and quick
This is a great place to go if you just want a really quick pizza on your way home and also if you are likely to change your mind and want an indian they do that as well. Bonus.

Busy But Good
Always packed on a Saturday afternoon but surprisingly effecient service this is a very well run branch - the staff are friendly and effiecient and the pizza is cooked to the standard you expect from the chain. Best to go midweek though and especially during the all you can eat lunchtime pizza and pasta buffet

Review of Shalimar Restaurant

Recommended
This is somewhere you can go if you want a good quality curry at a reasonable price in nice surroundings. It's one of the top 5 Indian restaurants in Leeds in my opinion and does a great job of classic curry in classic surroundings. The waiters are friendly and have a great sense of humour, always having a laugh with the customers, although the background music's a bit too foreground sometimes!

Review of Tripti Restaurant
20 Apr 08, 20:30
One of the good ones
There's lots of curry restaurants in Leeds but this one deserves to be in the 'premier league'. For many it's the perfect end to a night out maybe after drinking at nearby Mojo's... and the great thing is they dont lower the quality when serving people who are a bit drunk, as many other places do. This matters because you can still tell whether you're having a good curry even if you're a bit tanked up.

Really posh curry
This is a really posh traditional curry restarant where you can take someone for a nice meal out without feeling bad that you're just going for a curry! Pricey, and to be fair there's better food at half the price at other places in Leeds but you're paying for the experience and it wont disappoint

Above Average Curry House
This is one of the better curry places in Leeds. Really good food and service and a really authentic interior, you feel like this is how curry restaurants should be. The staff are friendly and helpful and the Chicken TIkka Masala is extremely good.

Review of Nafees
20 Apr 08, 20:20
Not Good
This is a really shabby curry restarant opposite the university which specialises in feeding drunk students badly cooked curry. Expect lots of shouting and swearing, unhappy staff and no effort put into the preparation of the food. There are hundreds of curry restaurants in Leeds and they're all better than Nafees!

Review of McDonald's Restaurant
20 Apr 08, 18:38
Busy but efficient
There used to be a Wendy's on Briggate which I really loved so now when I go here I always feel like it's second best. But the service and cleanliness are accpetable and they keep the restaurant tidy, clearing away trays promptly and always seem to have the food ready when you order it.

Review of The Cockpit
20 Apr 08, 18:32
Great credible indie club
This is the best place for live music in Leeds. Built into the railway arches and with a real industrial feel, bare brickwork and the original arched ceilings in a serious of interconnected caverns with stages this is a great place for gigs. Expect lots of hot sweaty moshing! The weekly Brighton Beach club night is a Leeds institution. Drinks are cheap but it can be slow to get served at the bar.

Perfect Italian
You can always smell the amazing italian food from BiBi's as you walk through the tunnel past the side of the railway station and it's so tempting to be drawn into this place. Inside, it's gorgeous - really nice decor, helpful staff and of course the food is AMAZING! Just fantastic. Pizzas to die for, and the best carbonara pasta I've ever had.

Review of Tiger Tiger

Bar / Restaurant / Great fun!
Tiger Tiger in The Light in Leeds is a really nice place to come for either something to eat or a few drinks. I wouldnt recommend it for getting drunk because it's not that kind of place but for a few sophisticated cocktails it's perfect. Food is impressive with a very varied menu - you'll really be spoilt for choice.

Review of The Trophy Shop

Trophytastic
It's hard to know where to find trophies so this shop is great. I needed a trophy for a work competition and they ordered one specially and organised the engraving too. They were most helpful and gave really good advice.

If you need a pen, look no further! Actually, they have a really good choice here and you can find a pen that you'll want to hang on to and not lose. From the simplest biro to a lovely fountin pen they've got everything you need, nicely laid out and with helpful staff plus ink cartridges and refills.

Review of The Condom Shop
20 Apr 08, 17:22
Rubberly
This is an amazingly fun shop that totally takes the embarassment out of shopping for condoms. There's an amazing range to choose from plus loads of other fun stuff like games, underwear etc. And because it's just in the middle of the top floor of the corn exchange you dont feel weird about strolling in and having a browse round. Friendly and fun staff and a nice place.

Review of Harvey Nichols
20 Apr 08, 17:13
"If you need to ask the price you can't afford it"
I love going here just to remind myself that money cant buy happiness! The price tags on everything in this shop are like a great big practical joke but amazingly people pay hundreds of pounds for horrible handbags with someone's name written all over them in the tackiest way or t shirts that become ten times as expensive when you sew a designer label in the back! It's insane really, but people must buy stuff in here or they wouldnt stay in business! I bought a jar of tomato sauce from the food section upstairs just so I could get a carrier bag and pose!
The staff are rude and surly which is how they are trained, I think.

The Knightsbridge Of Leeds
This is the place to find all the designer shops in Leeds with Harvey Nichols at one end and a sumptuous stained glass ceiling above some of the most famous names in designer fashion it's without doubt the best place for designer goods outside London in the UK. With a price tag to match, as you'd expect. Enjoy!

Review of The Corn Exchange
20 Apr 08, 17:07
Great selection of shops
If you're coming on a shopping trip to Leeds this is one place you shouldnt miss... the Corn Exchange is a big round building with two levels of shops around the inside and a cafe on the ground floor. Brilliant for small independent traders, crafty shops, fashion, new age and the famous Condom Shop!! This is the centre of bohemian Leeds and one of the best things about the city.

Review of Sock Shop
20 Apr 08, 17:03
Socks. Surprisingly.
The name of the shop says it all really! If you're passing through Leeds train station and in need of some fresh socks, this would be the logical place to go. From simple to 'designer' socks, you can find what you want easily here. Seems like a strange place for them to be, because it's a bit off the beaten track for shoppers but certainly handy for rail travellers.

Paradise for the United Faithful
If you're keeping the faith and following United this will definitely be on your shopping list. Handily situated in the heart of the city in the Leeds Shopping Plaza, this place has everything you could ever want from replica kits to scarves, badges and even wallets! You could pretty much kit your whole life out in the style of your fave team here!

Not Just For The Girlies
As a guy, it may not be the coolest place to shop but they do some really good toiletries in here. I particularly like the Mostly Men range which includes a great aftershave called Mostly Musk. They also do some really good bubblebath. This branch is no different from any other really, the store's not too busy and staff are helpful.

Famous alleyway
Really old, really famour pub in Leeds which is gorgeous in the summer when you can sit outside drinking beer in the sunshine in their little alleyway beer garden! It's nice cos you get old men, townies and students all sitting together, chilling out.

Extraordinary
This is the most amazing place - enormous, cavernous superclub in the style of somewhere like Manumission. When it first opened the laser show was cutting edge and the carpets and chrome were very cool but now it's a little bit tatty and sad but sometimes you can walk through to Jumpin Jaks and get some variety. Definitely worth experiencing but pick your night carefully - studenty midweek, chavvier at the weekend.

Get Lost!
This is the most confusing club I have ever been in! It used to be the T&C but they made it into a club and now it's hard to find the dancefloor you have just left when you go to the toilets (which are even more weird because the gents and ladies are sort of linked !?! Anyway they have some good nights here - Brutus Gold was here for a while and he's a legend. Not sure if he still does Love Train but worth checking it out.

Gatecrasher
This is Gatecrasher's club in Leeds and when it opened it was hailed as the best thing to happen in the city for years - still impressive even now, from the plasmas on the way in to the stunningly lavish decor and quality DJs this is one seriously impressive destination for your night out.

Great Place To Meet
We always meet here when we're going out in Leeds. Its between St Johns and Merrion Centre and they do great deals on cocktails in the happy hour. Plenty of places to sit and have a chat and generally clean, tidy and nice!

Stick
So called because it's opposite the casino, this is a nice smart modern pub with high standards and cheap drinks. It's a little bit out of the way for a city centre night out but it's handy for a quick drink after you've been to morrisons!

Let Me Take You Down
It's an urban myth in Leeds that the Beatles wrote their song after visiting this place. It could be true. But what I do know is they do brilliant food and it's a lovely little cosy place to drink just down the hill from the parkinson steps at the uni as you head into town. Perfect for a little candlelit valentines day meal.

Very trendy place
This is one of those places where you feel like you're cool just cos you're there! It's full of funky bohemian types chilling to ambient underground breakbeats, hanging loose on uber-cool furniture and looking like they're too cool to make an effort. But it's welcoming and easy to relax here.

Review of All Bar One

No Suit? No Point.
This is a bar exclusively for people in suits who have just come out of a bank or financial institution so they can sit on wooden benches and look down their noses at people walking past. I have been in once and didnt feel like I fitted in because of my lack of conformity and casual garb.

You Will Die
Dont go here unless you have a death wish. It's a bit too much like the wild west in here - in the past there have been lots of problems and now it's a bit of a no-go area. So if you're new to Leeds you should be warned. Worth avoiding at all costs.

Discotastic
It was better when it was The Observatory but it's still ok since they gave it a 70s disco theme. The music isnt always 70s but it's definitely heavy on the cheese and it's just your normal towny leeds types who go in there but not as rough as some places!

Review of Bondi Beach Bar

Revolving Dancefloor!
Very similar concept to Baja Beach Club but this one wins I think because it's cheaper and a lot more fun. The revolving dancefloor has been a legend in Leeds since this place was called Planet Earth and it's still hilarious to watch the carnage when someone falls over trying to get on or off it! Hilarious. Expect bar staff in bikinis and much messyness!

Review of The Courtyard

Essential For Summer Drinks
I have spent far too many summer evenings drinking in the courtyard! It's in the middle of Leeds and there's a long indoor bar and then a courtyard area with heaters where you can sit on benches and chat while the music plays - usually pretty chilled out house music from the DJ inside. Highly recommended.

Cosy Cavern of Tunage
As you descend into this place you will find that beneath the streets there's a nice big bar with some cool guitary grunge music - worth checking out but we quickly move on to other places after a quick drink cos it tends to be a bit full of rockers! Drinks are reasonably priced though so it's worth a visit definitely.

Review of The Elbow Room
19 Apr 08, 15:18
Perfect Pool Place
Like no other, this is a very clever combination of trendy, funky cocktail bar and pool hall based on the Elbow Room in London. Very cool hangout for some of the nicest people in Leeds and a great place to pose while you pot some balls. They also have some brilliant DJs playing down there so you can have a great night and they used to do a night where you bring your iPod and you can take a turn to play your own tunes for a bit. Cool idea, very cool place.

Life's a Beach
This is like being on holiday in some cheesy 18-30s place. Lots of crazy happy drunk people dancing around, bar staff in shorts and bikinis and crazy DJs giving away free shots and playing chesney hawkes and rick astley! It's an experience but the good thing is it's always just as good so if you're depressed just go along and let the atmosphere heal your mood!

Huge and Australian
This is an enormous bar that's really popular at the weekend, with great DJs, cheap drinks and a really nice sized dancefloor plus it's got a good sized upstairs area too. Handy if you're moving on to Oceana afterwards but equally you can quite happily stay there all night cos there's dancing, music and cheap drinks it's hard not to have a great time here.

THE WORLD'S BEST BAR!
I'm not joking - this is the best bar in the world! Amazing. You just cant describe the atmosphere. Cocktails. Rocknroll. Really nice bar staff. Nice customers. And in the summer they somehow remove the glass from the front of the bar and you can just sit and chat through the window to people walking past. It's the place to find the coolest people in Leeds - Chris Moyles drinks there, as do Leeds United footballers and most of the Galaxy 105 presenters. If you havent experienced it, you need to go there tonight. So turn your computer off and go there now, OK?

Out Of This World
This is like heaven if you're a sci fi fan and if not you will get in touch with your inner geek here. Loads of memorabilia on the walls from star trek to thunderbirds and they even have guests like Craig Charles from Red Dwarf and Gerry Anderson was there once! Retro, psychadelic and seriously cool as far as I'm concerned. I wish there was one near me cos I've moved away now! Love it.

How did that get there?
It's a Leeds legend - a boat at the side of the road that's been converted into a pub! You can even stand on the top of it and drink while you imagine you're looking out to sea observing the horizon! Cheap if you're a student with a yellow card but still pretty reasonable if you're not and no pretentiousness - come as scruffy as you like!

It took me a year to discover the fav which is behind charles morris hall on leeds uni campus but it's brilliant. Pub by day credible bar by night and always full of friendly people up for a laugh. Dont be put off if you're not a student cos everyone's welcome - as long as you make an effort you'll fit right in. The conservatory is great in the summer.

Curry Paradise
The reviewer above is absolutely right - this is the BEST curry restaurant in the UK. I wish I still lived in Leeds because I used to go here all the time. Traditional decor, really nice inside, polite staff and of course, perfectly prepared and presented food. My favourite being Chicken Tikka Masala - they use tender cuts of chicken, well marinaded in tandoori spices and then cooked to perfection with a delicious creamy sauce. Just amazing. And such a nice place to come at the end of a big night enjoying the amazing Leeds nightlife.

All Guns Blazing!
Many have criticised this place for promoting war. Personally, I absolutely LOVE seeing all the guns (I'm a big fan of firearms) and I think learning about history puts current conflicts in context. Plus it's a good way of teaching children what war is all about and hopefully persuading them to sign up for the army to fight for our great country. Top marks for a top place!

Currytastic
If you love quality indian food but also want to go somewhere a bit posh this is a great place to head. The food can't be faulted but the real difference is the modern decor - definitely not what you expect from a curry restaurant. And the quality of staff and service is second to none. It's great to have a place that can deliver quality indian food and great levels of service at the same time. First class!
