Review of The Ivy

07 Jul 07, 12:51

Home of all the celebrities. 4*

The Ivy is considered by many to be the most prestigious restaurants in London. Wherever you sit, you WILL be sitting next to a celebrity, (I sat next to Steven Merchant last time I went). The food was, in fact, all that it was cracked up to be, with a huge selection of dishes, ranging from froie gras to start, fish and chips for main course, and a delightful meringue to finish with. Expensive, but it comes with the territory. Overall, however, I can't help but feel that without the celebrity reception and the prestigious reputation, this is a fantastic restaurant, but certainly not the best in London.

Review of Le Cellier Du Midi

07 Jul 07, 12:38

Fantastic Food, no doubt 5*

The first time i descended the creaky stairs into 'Le Cellier Du Midi' I couldn't help but be wary of what was to come next. However, this secluded French restaurant did nothing but surprise me. The food is exquisite, the service excellent, and the atmosphere mellow but peaceful and romantic. It is a little expensive but by no means overpriced. Take no notice of its exterior, hidden just behind Tesco Express, for the interior boasts nothing less than some of the best cuisine I have tasted in London to this day.

Review of Shahbhag Tandoori

07 Jul 07, 12:22

Not too shabby 3*

Ah Shahbhag Tandoori...my local indian never fails to disappoint with its wide selection of great indian dishes, which all taste great. Yes, the waiters are a tad grumpy, but let's not forget that they are walking up and down a dark room, serving delicious food - without getting to eat any of it themselves. Yes the food is great, but I find I'm paying a little more than I want to be paying for a lamb korma, when I could pop down to the 'Bombay Bicycle Club' down the road, which is a little more expensive, but the food is fantastic. Try Shahbhag out, I'd be surprised if you didn't like it, but if the lack of lighting, and mellow atmosphere don't take your fancy, take a stroll down to the 'Bombay Bicycle Club'. If you don't like that, try the country sandwiched between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Review of Base

07 Jul 07, 11:53

Basic food - high prices 3*

After leaving Base, for the first time, I was so excited about meeting Freddie Ljungberg, that I failed to notice just how light my wallet was. It was only when I got home, and the novelty of meeting one of Arsenal's greatest had somewhat worn off, that I realized that I had just spent the best part of a tenner on a toasted sandwich I could have easily got from a nearby deli for 2 quid. Yes, Arsenal players go there sometimes, and yes the food is OK, but when you have just spent 7 pounds on a ham club sandwich, you get the feeling that Base has just picked you up, turned you upside down, and robbed you of all the money you have in your pockets. I'll see you at the deli.

Review of Giraffe

07 Jul 07, 11:45

World Food tastes pretty damn good. 4*

I will admit it. The first time I ate at 'Giraffe' I left with a sour taste in my mouth. Not only was it from the the 'Tangy and Spiced Turkey Enchiladas', which I have solemnly vowed never to eat again, but also I felt the service was mediocre - the food took a while, the waiter was, to put it nicely, a dish served cold, and the price was - well, actually, the price was not bad at all. However, on returning weeks later, still with that same sour taste in my mouth, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had re-staffed with lovely new waiters and waitresses, the menu was new and improved, and the atmosphere was buzzy and lively, but not overly. Every time I return I am presented with a new menu, constantly raising the standard of 'World (Fast) Food', with dishes supposedly from all over the globe. I strongly recommend it. Just stay clear of the enchiladas...
