Review of Wembley Arena
23 May 08, 10:46
Time to move on
Anything to do with the word, Wembley is always touched with magic, but the reality is very different. Live Nation, who run the Arena have done a fantastic job with the exterior and the public concourses. They're bright, there's plenty of refreshment bars and loos, although you still have to queue forever. But the auditorium must be the darkest, grimmest, uninviting ever. In the days of the 02 arena and others, it's amazing that big shows are still staged here. As Robert Plant said the other night. 'I've travelled around the finest venues in Scandinavia and Europe, to end up in a Swimming Pool.' And the access. What other country would build it's premiere sporting and entertainment venues in the middle of an industrial park with the narrowest roads in the world leading to and from it? It's two years since I was there last and it will certainly be another two before I even contemplate going again. As I say they've done their best, but surely it's time for the bulldozers to move in. Oh, and while we're waiting, fit some proper air conditioning
