Review of The Bulldog

YMCA! 3*

I swear I saw the Village people in here last night! The place is full of men with handlebar moustaches and vests. Not a place I'd usually frequent, I was surprised to have a really good night here. Not one to visit on your own, you need to be in a big group to have fun here. It's wall to wall men, very small and cramped so a little sweaty. Good place to go if you're trollied and drinks are AMAZINGLY cheap - 3 double vodkas for £6!!

Review of Legends

Hilarious! 3*

I had my first experience of this 'legendary' bar last night - one not to be missed if you want to camp it up for the night. This place is great if there's a big crowd. There is always a bit of entertainment - last night was a drag queen, who was ok but not the best. The layout is nice, with plenty of seating and a large bar so getting served is not a problem. There's also a good outside area, so it would be nice during the day.

Review of H & M

27 May 08, 16:39

Disappointing... 2*

Despite always having the best intentions of nabbing myself a bargain or two I always leave this particular branch empty handed. It's way too small for the amount of stock, with rows and rows of brilliant bargains all crammed together. Even if you manage to find something you like, it's impossible to find the correct size and don't even think about trying anything on! This branch is strictly for the young and foolhardy. Anyone with a brain will shop online, from the comfort of their sofa!

Review of Alfresco

A great spot 3*

Always busy, this is a great stop off point if you're wandering into Brighton via the seafront. There are plenty of tables, all with a view facing the sea. I've never eaten lunch here, but have been to a few parties. It's a great venue for a private function, you can hire a whole floor with plenty of space for a DJ etc. The food and drink is all lovely too, despite the drinks being a little on the costly side.

Review of Brighton Station

23 May 08, 16:50

A little shabby 3*

Brighton Station is a nightmare to get to by car but there is an area round the back (if you can get there) where you can wait for free. Generally, this station is extremely busy with lots of people rushing about. The staff are relatively helpful but can be a little grumpy during busy periods. The ticket office is always extremely busy too, so probably best to buy your tickets in advance.

Review of Thistle Hotel Brighton

Nice 4*

I have stayed here a couple of times and would say it's slightly better than the rest along the seafront.

The rooms are average (if a little poky) but I think the main reception area is extremely welcoming - nice big comfy sofa's and table service!

The restaurant has won awards, it's one of the only places in Brighton to be awarded 2 AA rosettes.

Also, the restaurant has great views looking out onto the sea.

Review of Bucket & Spade Beach

Luvverly 4*

Brilliant lunches here, the expected baquettes and jacket spuds but also a wide choice of veggie options. The flatbread with hoummus and olives is lovely, and the warm brie with salad was perfect washed down with a beer. Situtated right next to a kids play area, it can be a little noisy but provides plenty of entertainment. A great spot if the sun is shining, and alot cheaper than most places. Well reccommended.

Review of Royal York Hotel

Dancing Queen 4*

This hotel has been totally gutted and refurbed to a very high standard. They are the only place in Brighton to have their very own Karaoke booths, with 3 to choose from. They can cater for small groups or larger parties, with bright vibrant rooms with your very own spotlights! The bar is large, serving a huge range of cocktails and the whilst the restaurant is small, you can see right through to the chefs hard at work. The rooms are finshed to a high standard, with the top floor boasting some very fine long stay apartments, all with great views of the sea. Whilst the prices are expensive, it's well worth the money for a special occasion and if there was a large group sharing one of the penthouse apartments, it would prove great value.

Review of Komedia

30 Apr 08, 13:59

Great for Groups 3*

As with all comedy venues, this place really depends on the night.

Venue wise, it is one of the better ones, with plenty of seating in quite a small area. This gives it a more intimate feel as you can interact more with the acts.

The food isn't great - most of it is of the 'in a basket' variety but the beer is good, with jugs available for the thirsty ones out there!

A great place to go if you've a group of friends visiting.

Review of The Mash Tun

Very studenty.... 3*

I have always liked the atmosphere in this pub, it has a quirky feel to it and as it is quite small it always has a buzzing atmosphere. Very popular with students and young folk, with people spilling out on to the street. There is quite a large seating area outside, which is great in the summer. Also, they have a great game called 'Celebrity Deathwall' (I think it's called that) - pay a pound and pick a celeb who is next to pop their clogs and if you get it right you win the money pot! A great twist!

Review of Concorde 2

30 Apr 08, 13:28

Great 4*

I have seen many obscure and more well known bands here - it's a really great venue and very Brighton! It's a little dark and dingy but that all adds to the atmosphere. It's a great place to go during the week, but be warned that it's quite a trek on foot (not particularly pleasant in the rain!) Also, for all the girlies, there are no mirrors in the toilet, so if you're looking to impress make sure you take one with you!

Review of Mr Topper's Original Barber Shop

25 Apr 08, 22:11

Good Value 2*

Great place for a cheap, decent cut. The actual shop is very basic and there ain't no fuss about the place but what do you expect for 6 quid! All the stylists are well trained so the cuts are quality. It's no frills hairdressing!

Review of The Hop Poles

Smokers Paradise 4*

This is a perfect pub for a smoker. They have craftily kitted out the backyard to feel like the indoors - brilliant heating, excellent seating and it's so nice to be able to sit at a proper table with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other. Beats standing huddled in a doorway with no shelter from the rain. Always extremely busy, this pub has a real cosy feel to it and is always a nice spot to end up in.

Review of Fratelli

24 Apr 08, 14:18

Slightly disappointing 3*

I really like the feel of this place - the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is good. I was a little disappointed with the food - the menu is Italian 'with a twist' but it can be a bit hit & miss. Great olives though.
