Review of The Sausage Shop

07 May 08, 20:07

Fantastic 5*

A real point on the map in Bath that I have to visit every time I'm in the city.

I always pick up something for dinner at this place and have a takeaway sausage in a bun before I head off. I've yet to try the sausage and mash, but it's definately up there for my next trip.

Best In Bath 5*

Best in Bath.

The best radio station there is in the city. Much better than their rivals and you get a better listen and much more to win.

They know more about Bath than anyone else so give it a listen and you won't be disappointed

What they don't know about the city isn't worth knowing and unrivalled as the commercial radio station for the South West

Poviding unrivalled travel and music. They also have the best view from a radio station ever.

If you ever get interviewed then you'll get great views of the harbour. if not, then it's worth a listen as they'll entertain you and get you home at the same time

Best in Torquay 5*

This is the best fish and chip shop that I managed to find in Torquay (and I tried a lot)

They don't taste oily or like raw potato that you can get at other places. Certainly worth the walk along the harbour and you might just meet Gemini FM presenters getting lunch in.

Excellent 5*

Really friendly guys who'll get your through your PADI licence exams. You won't be stuck in a group of hundreds of pupils per instructor, it's quite individual.

They use the deep diving pool in Maidstone Mote Park leisure centre where you can get to grips with the equipment in clear water.

Really friendly people as well. I really enjoyed my dive experience with these guys

Review of Mu Mu

06 May 08, 15:16

Best in Maidstone 5*

If you're tired of the teeny boppers at the other bars in town. If you're done with cheesey music and people trying to get as drunk as possible then head to Mu Mu bar.

It was a really small bar until recently, when a larg refurb opened up the restaurant next door and out the back meaning that it looks small, but opens into a large club

There are several different areas, a crowded front bar, an open bar at the back and a nightclub to the left (as you look at the front of the place)

Drinks are more expensive than other places but I don't mind this as it dissuades the chavs from polluting a really classy bar that wouldn't look out of place in London

If you want to be with like-minded people who won't accuse you of "looking at their pint" then Mu Mu's is it.

Review of Papa's Barn

06 May 08, 14:28

Best in Kent 5*

This is easily the best fish and chip shop in kent and to the best of my knowledge the best in England

It's phenomenal and you know it's good when people are queueing out of the door on a Monday evening.

The fish is crispy and light (not oily) and the chips are light and fluffy. None of the that old chips nonsense where they've been sitting in the hot tray for ages.

I lived 20 minutes away and would still not go anywhere else other than here, driving out of my way to get to Papas as everywhere else was a disappointment

I don't know how these guys can do this equipment so cheap. They all know their stuff so can give you advice and there's always a deal on the tvs and DVD players. They manage to do them really cheaply and I've no idea how.

I've bought several machines from here and never had a problem with them. I had a friend who did and they offered him a replacement or a refund immediately. I don't think I'll go anywhere else for electricals

Much better than flowers bought from a supermarket or a petrol forecourt.

These are also not the normal market flowers, they are well thought out high quality creations.

Even the look of the outside of the shop with it's displays will give you an idea of the quality these guys can give you. If you're after a really beautiful bunch of flowers then come here

Sub-perb 5*

This place is always rammed at lunchtime and it's easy to see why. Freshly made sandwiches, assembled in front of you with exactly what you want.

They're reasonably priced and the choice of fillkings is huge. It makes such a difference from the pre packed supermarket ones.

Excellent, go check them out and you'll never go to tescos again

Roaring Open Fire 5*

I went here when it was deepest snow and not feeling like staying in, yet not really feeling like going out properly, this place was excellent

The food was good, typical good pub food and not spectacular, but filling and satisfying and the piece that sealed it was the open fire.

A cold drink sat in front of an open fire and a large leather armchair was perfect and excellent when it was snowing outside

Quintisential Oxford 5*

If you don't exactly know where you're going then you will probably need a sat nav, however, your trials and tribulations at finding it will be rewarded.

The location of many an episode of Inspector Morse, this pub is chose for the quintisential nature of an Oxford pub. To drink on a warm summer's evening with the sun on your face the river flowing gently past the end of the beer garden it's the ultimate relaxation technique.

The food is stunning. It has been taken over and really set itself up as a gastro pub, drawing in many customers from all over the county and further. The food is excellent and although it's not cheap, it's not like you're going to be eating here every day.

Perfect

Experts 5*

This is the place to go for proper running gear. they have running shoes along with wind cheaters and other sporting equipment

I bought a pair of running trainers from here as I was getting shin splints.

The guys here made me run across a machine to figure out how I ran and where I'd need support. They then matched shoes to my running style and I ended up with a pair of running shoes that have lasted me years and i've never got shin splints again.

I thought £80 was a lot for trainers, but I would happily spend that again and more for this level of expertise and service again without hesitation

Review of Fremlin Walk Shopping Centre

Class 5*

If you're used to shopping at the Chequer's centre then this is going to feeling like a different world

It's also great for the people who can't bear to set foot in the Chequers centre.

Built on the site of the old Fremlin's brewery, you can still see the original brewery sign above the entrance from Earl Street.

A selection of top high street stores, specifically built so they're all spacious and with a great coffee shop. A really pleasant stroll down this street (it's not really a shopping centre) is a world away from the Chequers centre... thank god!

Hidden Gem 5*

Lots of people in Maidstone will bypass this place as it doesn't have the normal brands that you would expect, but they're missing out.

lots of small boutique shops that you won't find on other high streets. Lots of independent shops suck as jewellers maternity wear and men's fashion. There's a really nice meditteranean feel to this place and the coffee is good. Plus it's really cool in summer and not very busy

I got drawn in by the mediaeval maps of Bedford. History fascinates me and i could have lost hours in here, i was just lucky I was on a long lunch break or I would have been late

Review of The Sugar Boy

Nostalgia 5*

If you want to find the sweets from your childhood, but can't wait to have them delivered via the internet then this place will probably stock them

Sweets stocked in jars and measured out in to quarters (or whatever the poxy Euro metric law is now anyway)

It's like being a kid again and somehow they taste so much better from a tiny paper bag than a plastic wrapper bought off a supermarket shelf.

I'll often wander along the streets dreaming that I'm 7 again and ready to be signed up as a professional football. Once I'm finished I'm back to the crashing reality that I really wasn't that good at football

Review of The Sugar Boy

Nostalgia 5*

This shop recaptured the days when we would walk down to the sweet shop and the old lady behind the counter would take down a jar of Rhubarb and Custard, measure out a quarter on a set of scales and tip it into a small paper bag twisting the corners to seal it.

Nobody died of botchelism, I never caught salmonella and the sun always shone and we spent all summer like Swallows and Amazons (ok that bit isn't quite true)

I'm still her and this is a real nostalgia shop. Walk in here and you'll be 7 again clutching your pocket money

Review of Kudos Chinese Restaurant

One of the best chinese restaurants i've eaten at, anywhere in the country.

Staff were great and the food was exceptional. Definately somewhere I visit when back in Canters!

Review of The Comedy Store

Comedy Genius 5*

Brilliant. The cream of comedy talent perform here and you can be guarentee that you will laugh as only the best get to perform on this stage.

If you're used to the usual stand up, then you can check out the improvisation nights which are far more fascinating and funnier knowing that you're watching an organic comedy experience.

Drinks are reasonable (remember you're in the centre of london) and the seats are comfy enough. Just don't ever (And I do mean ever) go to the toilet during an act... they will slaughter you and your friends as well.

Review of The Ritz Hotel

29 Apr 08, 17:23

Stunning 5*

I took my parents here for an afternoon tea and yes it was everything that I could have imagined.

The fact that you have to be well dressed to enter, also adds to the atmosphere of the place. The decor where we sat was so enthralling, we actually forgot to speak to each other for a while.

It's everything I hoped it would be... the mix of Oscar Wilde's Importance Of Being Earnest with that dash of James Bond thrown in.

I can't rave about this enough. The tea cakes and sandwiches were stunning (although I had a sudded panic over how you're supposed to pronounce the word "Scone")

Stunning and I think the fact that it's expensive is necessary to give it the phenomenal sense of grandeur you get. I also walked out of the place thinking I was better than everyone else... (secretly I really enjoyed that bit as well)

A beautifully kept golf course andsadly the bane of any a golfer. There is plenty to keep the expert golfer occupied here, but aso it won't fox you if you're a novice.

Greens are great and all 18 holes have something to keep you improving your game.

The club house is very nice, food is great and they bar (19th) is well kept too. There's a gym and pool if you fancy unwinding, but if it's hot day, it's almost perfect.

Review of Bervie Chipper

Amazing 5*

The second branch of The World Famous Bervie Chipper in Inverbervie. This chain shop is just as good as the original in Inverbervie.

The chips are phenomenal and every time I leave Stonie I crave a trip to the Chipper for a haggis/fish supper.

Amazing, so good in fact that I am lost in a hazy mist of remisence and wanting.

Worth the car journey itself

Review of Bervie Chipper

Phenomenal 5*

Often voted the best chip shop in the UK, there is a reason why.

Whenever i visit family I cannot leave without going here. A haggis supper or fish supper... actually I can't decide. It's all great.

When you dream of a perfect chip, the guys manage it every time. There's a rumour that you always get a bad cheap in a plate of chip, then the bervie chipper flys in the face of that.

I can't rave about this enough... it's gorgeous chipness with fresh fish caught from the local ports and you tell in the quality.

Review of Wembley Stadium

Awesome 5*

Wembley has to be seen to be believe. It’s enourmous. Seats are much more comfortable than old Wembley and you don’t have your view obscured by posts.

Food is plentiful and the concourse levels for refreshments is really big… enough to drive trucks around (if you wanted to)

Great atmosphere and concerts here are great to watch. I saw Live Earth and it was phenomenal with bars on the pitch there.

Review of Leicester Tigers Rugby Football Club

Awesome 5*

Regularly beating the attendance of the football team in Leicester, this is the best rugby you’ll see in the country, outside of international. Most of the Leicester team feature in their respective national sides and it’s easy to see why. Brilliant to watch with some of the best backs and forwards around, Leicester is a grand day out for any sports fan. If you’ve never been to a rugby match before and have only seen football you will converted here. Drinks available in the stands, fans intermingled and a phenomenal atmosphere. Take the train if you’re coming here, unless you want to drive round and round the ground listening to it because you couldn’t get parked

Fantastic 5*

Absolutely brilliant. It's hard to do this place justice without going to the website to check out the rides on the site or you tube. Just like any theme park, it’ll be busy when it’s sunny and the school are out, but if you can find a cloudy day during term time then take full advantage of the smaller queues and be a big kid again. There’s even a nice farm area if you want to get a bit of peace and quiet from the screaming rollercoaster riders

Take avantage of the fast pass queue jump tickets, they are well worth it.

Quite simply one of the oddest museums, full of the oddest items you could imagine. I guess Odd would describe the whole thing except the experience which is fascinating

Where else are you going to find Shrunken heads on a Thursday afternoon on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Star of numerous Inspector Morse episodes (they steal a strange knife from here, but I can't remember "who done it")

Times They Are A Changin' 5*

There was a time when the thought of going into the "Fred's Head" brought most local residents out in a cold sweat.

The lightening quick shot on a pub crawl that was taken at around 7pm, so you could be out by 7.05 before the more colourful locals came for a pint (and generally a fight)

Tables and chairs bolted to the floor and blood red carpets were the norm.

However... it's a beautiful Gastro pub with superb food and great catering for their function room. An absolute gem in Wantage.

It's good value and I've never managed to empty the bottemless frozen yoghurt machines. I believe the may actually be bottomless.

Affordable, delicious and recently namechecked in Gavin & Stacey for taking cards if it's over a fiver.

A subtle blend of peri peri spices and chicken is all you need to know. I've yet to find anyone who doesn't like it (I'm sure vegetarians are bound to be a little fussy in a chicken restaurant.)

It's phenomenal, although don't fill up too much on olives and spicey nuts as there's always plenty.

Word of warning... if you're so obsessed with Nando's that you're more than happy to eat in there on your own, they do have a tendency to stick you in a window seat, like some sort of lonely freak. Maybe that's just me.
