Review of The University Of Oxford Shop

14 Apr 08, 18:17

I'm from Oxford... My jumper says so! 3*

Ever been to Oxford... no? Ever attended one of the prestigious and highly pretentious universities... no? Then why not cover yourself in clothing to convince the plebs back home that you have.

It's got everything you could want, jumpers, jackets, teddy bears and mugs all emblazoned with the word Oxford. You can pick up some of the specific college scarfs that might go a touch further to convincing the odd local that you are a student but nobody else.

If you're after souvenirs it's perfect for generic oxford stuff... you might find more specific individual college souvenirs in the actual colleges themselves.

Review of Centre MK

14 Apr 08, 18:12

Long... very long. 3*

A huge shopping centre, that suffers from the layout of Milton Keynes. It's all the shops that you would expect, however, unlike Bluewater's 2 tiered triangle set it... the Centre MK is two parrallel corridoors of shops. Bring comfortable shoes.

There's also an odd spur off one side of the centre with extra shops like Gap, good luck if you can work out which section your in from the "You Are Here" maps. However once you've figured it all out, pretty much everything you could want is there for you.

Review of Starbucks

Out Of the Way History... This Is Coffee 3*

You know when people talk about commercialism taking over the world and stamping it's weight over historic commodities... then this is the perfect example.

The coffee shop is as you'd expect for what it serves, however it's built into the gated walls of Canterbury Cathedral. It does give the inside a charm. You have to explore nooks and crannys to find somewhere to sit, however, there's just something unsettling that they've bulldozed their shop into a world heritage site. What next... a cash point in the great wall of China? Hang on... there isn't one already is there?

Review of Jelly Beanz

Brilliant 5*

A technically gifted team of stylists run by Grant (who came across from Len's Barbers over the road)

Friendly staff, and finally a good up of tea when you go for a cut.

They're good at colours and all that kind of stuff, according to word of mouth. i wouldn't know, i only go for a haircut, but I've always enjoyed it.

Review of Len's Barber Shop

14 Apr 08, 17:48

Institution 4*

Stock, standard barber shop, run by a man sporting a smashing moustache.

Friendly staff, available to help and a good level of staff. Len's is an institution in Whitstable and the high street would seem odd without it. If you need ladies styling then head (no pun intended) across the road to jellybeanz

Review of Autoglass UK

Handy 5*

Handy, convenient and according to that nice Oxford detective on the adverts, they'll come out to where you work to fix your windscreen.

You don't want to wait until a chip becomes a crack as that'll cost you your car insurance excess... see, advertising does work. They have a special resin which fills the crack and repairs it good as new.

Review of Don Vincenzo

"I'm Not Paying" 1*

I have to be careful... but I had an awful experience here. So bad, that I had a stand up row with the owner and refused to pay.

I ordered a lasagne, that arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and came swimming in a bowl of what I can only describe as Tomato soup... not tomatoes, but something that tasted like Heinz Tomato Soup.

He has my name and address if he wants the money for that meal, but he'll have to take me to court for it. Apologies if I disturbed your dinner, but I wasn't going to lose a shouting contest... if you are going, you'll probably be ok with a pizza... possibly, I don't know.

Review of Little Italy

14 Apr 08, 17:29

Bizarre Menu 3*

It's a great little Italian restaurant... beautiful inside, however the menu will confuse the hell out of you.

Everything you'd expect, but also stuff like a full roast dinner. I've never known an Italian restaurant do Roast Potatoes... spaghetti yes... Yorkshire pudding... no.

On the whole, once you've picked around the menu, the food is good and the staff are friendly

Review of Zizzis

Cafe Culture 4*

Great for groups and always accommodating, no matter how many of you there are.

Good service and a wide range of Italian food. Plus you can wash it down with plenty of wine. On a summer's day they'll throw the massive glass frontage open or even let you eat on the pavement (you get a table parasol etc, it's not like you're a tramp)

Review of Wimpy

14 Apr 08, 17:14

Unexpected 3*

One of the few places left on earth to still have a Wimpy. I thought they'd disappeared along with the dinosaurs, but apparantly not.

It's a shame they took the "pork bender" off the menu as that was the only highlight of going in there. Burgers with knives and forks now seems very foreign and backdated
