Review of Office Shoes

Poor Choice 2*

I went in here recently and it was a difficult to get to the men's shop at the end of the store.

They have a large amount of men's shoes, however they all seem to be exactly the same.

A choice of either brown brogues or black brogues are the staple and take up all the back shelf. Anything fashion wise is kept on a tiny shelf at the side and it is extremely limited in choice.

Not Sony Sexy 3*

It's like the Sony Shop in the other part of the mall, but for Panasonic goods.

The items are quite as sexy and you don't get the same buzz as from the Sony Centre, however you do get something Sony don't offer... change.

The products are still good and the staff will still advise you on what you should be looking for.

Review of Sony Centre

Big is Beautiful 4*

When you're talking about TVs there is no such words as "too big" and Sony know how to do it better than most.

So you've got to knock through the living room wall into the garage so you can see all the tv without having to move your head... so be it.

The staff here are knowledgable and can give you advice on what you should be looking for (LDC v Plasma etc) and they do laptops and camcorders

Sony do some beautiful tvs, but be prepared, you'll pay for it. Hey once you've been in here and spent your money, you may never be able to go out again, but you won't have to with a TV that can double as an Odeon cinema. Just make your money by charging your mates extortionate amounts of money for coke and popcorn, you'll soon be able to go out again.

Review of Millets

Worth a browse 3*

If you're going camping and want to be prepared then Millets will have it. You'll find that somebody in this shop knows their stuff. If it's not the first person you speak to, they'll find the person that does.

it's handy to pick up all the essential equipment for your camping stuff. It's actually quite a well stocked store and it's worth looking around as you may see something that you'll need that never crossed your mind before

Review of Midsummer Place Shopping Centre

21 Apr 08, 23:15

Fashion 4*

More commonly known as the bit on the side of The Centre MK. Actually a more pleasant shopping area. Teh eating area in this bit is more open and you can’t quite decide if it’s outside or inside, you’ll know what i mean when you see it. It has more of the fashion side of the centre with shops like Zara and the gap.

Big Boys Toys 3*

The gadget shop is also described as a crèche for men... well not even men, just big kids. The only difference between men and boys is that the toys get more expensive. There are loads of ideas for presents, most are frivolous, but some are downright genius. You can even check the website before you go to see everything that’s on offer. Plus they let you play with some of them before, brilliant.

Review of Game

New and Used 3*

Game is the place to go for computer games. They buy and sell games, new and second hand. Prices are always reasonable and you can be sure that the bundle packs they do for consoles will be a good deal at Christmas. The staff are always very knowledgeable, even if you don’t know the name, they’ll be able to help you with exactly what your kids are after.

Good store, bad cafe 3*

A good department store with plenty of options of clothing, electricals and more. I’ve been to the café upstairs though and that was busy, expensive and the coffee I got, not actually that nice. As department stores go, it’s great, as cafés go… probably best to stick to Starbucks or Costa.

Review of Starbucks

Better Seating 4*

The second branch of starbucks in the centre MK. This one, however, is a little more spacious and open giving you a concourse to drink your coffee on, without feeling like you’re being squeezed into seats inside the shop. It’s a much more pleasant experience at this end of the mall so head to this one as your first port of call.

Review of Love Juice

Love It 3*

Don’t be confused by the name, this is a great way to get your 5 a day. Freshly prepared fruit juices, but also the chance to give you a shot of natural energy boost or a blast of vitamins to fight off any colds. Very tastey, but you wouldn’t buy this just for a drink as it can be a bit pricey.

Shoe... only spelt wrong 3*

A fashion shop for shoes for both men and women. They can be a bit pricey, but they have a wide selection and choice available. Staff are well trained and are eager to get you to the till with a purchase so you won’t have to chase assistants down unlike some other shoe stores

Pad out your wardrobe 3*

It’s worth having a look in H&M, you probably won’t get anything specific, but if you’re after items to pad out your wardrobe then you won’t break the bank in here. Somewhere for staples and a few little bits and pieces. Apparently it’s all about layering, if that’s the case then H&M will solve that one for you.

Review of Gap

21 Apr 08, 17:36

Same Old Same Old 2*

If you’re going by the map in the main section of the shopping centre, this place isn’t the easiest store to find, but then again the maps take a highly trained army navigator a couple of minutes to work it out. This is a typical gap store that has a lot of stock out so you can see pretty much all they do. However, as with all Gap stores, the clothes on offer hardly change from year to year.

Books, Books and more books 4*

If you’re one of those people who likes to lose themselves in a book shop, then waterstones is the one for you. A massive selection, not distracted by trying to sell you anything else… Waterstones do books and they do it well. Don’t feel like you need to rush and it’s a great way to browse away an hour or so.

Expensive 2*

Newspapers, magazines, books, stationary and entertainment all under one roof. However, the entertainment part tends to be really expensive. I’d never buy a DVD from here as it’s full whack when you can pop to tesco or Sainsbury nearby and pick it up for pretty much half the price. Handy for pens though.

Cashew Nuts 3*

Probably the cheapest place on the high street for all the pills and potions that they do. Always doing a deal of buy one get one half price and stuff like that, so keep an eye out and stock up when you need to. If you keep an eye on the tv adverts you may never have to pay full price. Also, it’s the place I buy cashew nuts from as they are cheaper than any of the supermarkets… except, if you manage to find an Indian supermarket, that’s the only place I’ve ever found them cheaper.

Saville Row in MK 4*

I was surprised to see a Hawes and Curtis in Milton Keynes as they are really only found on Saville Row and maybe Bluewater. However, if it’s bespoke shirts you’re after then these guys can give you what you want. Very knowledgeable and eager to help. They also have a very extensive off the peg selection.

Busy at Lunchtime 3*

Handy if you’re finished the shopping and need a couple of things before you head home. Parking can be a premium around here because of the proximity to the shops and watch out, it gets very very busy around lunchtime with people grabbing sandwiches. The 10 items or less queue can take 20 minutes to get through so keep that in mind if you’re on a meter

Review of Ann Summers

21 Apr 08, 16:55

Toys and more 3*

If I wanted Phallus shaped pasta, there’s only one place I’d go… Ann Summers. Have no shame in going in here and browsing… however if you’re a bloke on your own, better make it well known that you have a girlfriend and are looking for something specific. If you get a shop assistant to help you then you won’t feel quite as creepy as a lonely man wandering the aisles.

Review of Hotel Chocolat

So good it should be illegal. 4*

This is not somewhere to go if you’re on a diet and both your willpower and bank balance are shakey. Some of the best combinations of chocolates I’ve ever tasted are here and it blows Thorntons away. It should do considering how expensive it is. Even if you don’t want much, you may well not see change from a tenner.

Review of Zara

21 Apr 08, 16:29

European 3*

It’s hard to describe next, but they probably get categorized as European. With their base in Barcelona, everything is cut very slim, especially in menswear. Generally muted colours on offer on their smarter wear and a tailored fit that you don’t usually find on the high street. Although one summer everything was green, I have no idea why, but every outfit they put together had a Kermit the frog colour in it somewhere

Shirts and Suits High St prices 3*

Shirts and suits are the staple of this place. Austin Reed have a very wide selection of shirts available in different cuts for the slimmer or more portly gentleman. If you’re looking for shirts for work or for bow ties and other stuff for a black tie dinner, you can get it here at high street prices

Fill Your Wardrobe 3*

High street fashion on a budget. A large-ish store where you can fill up on all the staple items that make up your wardrobe. You probably won’t find anything specific that you’ll love forever, but if you want to bulk out your wardrobe for the season then you can do worse that pay this place a visit

Review of Original Levi's Store

21 Apr 08, 16:06

Jean-tastic 3*

Original levis on offer here. They have a wide selection and if you’re after levis then they’ll know if what you’re after is actually available. Pretty much ever shade, fit, size and cut of jean there is. Sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees and may need to ask someone who will be able to bring you what you’re after.

Review of Hugo Boss

21 Apr 08, 15:56

The Boss 4*

If you want to invest in a suit and want it to last forever then this is the place. Effortlessly stylish, but it’s not somewhere you pop into to grab a few items. This is a “Save up before you go” type of place. The suits are phenomenal and won’t go out of fashion. When girls get excited about shoes, men should get excited about Hugo Boss.

Review of Burton

Spacious 3*

Ideal for staples and I’ve always shopped here for plain white t-shirts. It won’t break the bank and as fashions change quickly, so does the selection on offer here. Have a look around, although it’s not the biggest store and there is a lot of spare floor space where more items could be on display

Review of Top Man

High Street Chic 3*

Top shop’s man equivalent in Milton Keynes. It’s one of the larger stores of it’s kind that you’ll find. Good for staples, or if you’re after high street fashions prices are reasonable and won’t break the bank. You might not buy something to last forever, but if you change fashions with the seasons, then have a look

Review of Moss

21 Apr 08, 15:33

Very Helpful 4*

A small-ish shop that has a lot of stock out for you to see. The staff were very helpful and when my size wasn’t on the rail, they were happy to find the best one. They know their stuff when it comes to suits so will be able to make sure you’re suit fits and if it doesn’t how to get it tailored. The store also has a hiring service upstairs, ideal if you don’t own a dinner jacket or black tie suit.

Online as well 3*

One of the chains of jewellers on the high street. Helpful, because you can check out what you want online before you shop, giving you a clearer idea of what you want and what is available. They were willing to order items in for me when I went there and the staff were very helpful.

Good Selection 3*

A fine selection of jewellery, watches and earrings. The staff were helpful, even though the shop was busy on a Saturday. They were reasonably priced and I ended up buying a present from here as they offered the best deal and value for money on the particular item I was after

Helpful 3*

One of the better known retailers in the Centre MK. A decent enough selection of earrings and watches and definitely worth a look to get an idea of what is available. The staff were polite and helpful talked me through my options, even suggesting things that I might not have thought of.

Helpful and Reasonably priced 4*

Eventually settled on this place to buy diamond earrings as a present. The staff were helpful and polite. The prices were reasonable and the packaging was nice enough that I could just hand it over without having to cack handedly try wrapping the small box myself. This one came top in all the shops I saw in the Centre MK

Worth a look 3*

Part of a shopping trip to buy diamond earrings for a birthday present. A decent enough selection, but nothing that jumped out at me. Certainly worth a look and the staff were very helpful when I looked a bit lost, but felt that we could find the same thing cheaper elsewhere.

Review of Costa

17 Apr 08, 14:12

Costafficient 3*

A long thin branch of Costa, and you can find yourself wandering around trying to find somewhere to sit. There is the option of sitting out in the shopping centre itself.

Cheaper than Starbucks, but sometimes the quality of the coffee isn't quite as good either.

Muffins are great though, so that's on the plus side

Islands In The Stream 3*

No man is an island... but there is a shop on an island in a river... oh heck.

Basically it's a fashion shop that's slightly funkier than it's counterpart Next.

A largish store with plenty of selection in both the mens and women's dept

Not Just M & S 3*

A large M and S Store that comes with the obligatory food store with food that you can't afford, but the woman on the advert makes sound like filth.

If you can drag yourself pas the "not just pudding, this is Belgian Chocolate pudding" they also have clothes... and lots of them

it's a big store so you'll find most of their lines that they do. But they also do chocolate puddings from Belgium, so who cares about the clothes

Review of Centre MK

14 Apr 08, 18:12

Long... very long. 3*

A huge shopping centre, that suffers from the layout of Milton Keynes. It's all the shops that you would expect, however, unlike Bluewater's 2 tiered triangle set it... the Centre MK is two parrallel corridoors of shops. Bring comfortable shoes.

There's also an odd spur off one side of the centre with extra shops like Gap, good luck if you can work out which section your in from the "You Are Here" maps. However once you've figured it all out, pretty much everything you could want is there for you.
