Review of Alteration Tailor

Would use again 4*

Used these guys to take in a suit jacket. They did a good job and the suit now looks like it cost another £250 just because it's fitted to me.

They changed the lining though (which wasn't quite as good as the one I sent it in with. But they did a really good job and you can I would definately use them again

Review of Oxford Circus Underground Station

05 May 08, 11:21

Saturday Nightmare 2*

It's known as Oxford Circus for a reason... mainly because you'd have to be a clown to plan your journey around getting on and off here.

It's rammed and an absolute nightmare to end up coming up in the right place to start shopping. As it's on Oxford Street, it's afocal point for shoppers and is busy. Saturdays are almost impossible around this place. Avoid

Review of Piccadilly Circus Underground Station

Thoroughly confusing 2*

Thouroughly confusing. Once you get up to just below ground level, th estation is built in a circle, that should direct you to where you want to go.

However, if you don't know where you're going and would only know by site, then you're going to have to get above ground at any pont and then make your way from there. I don't think I've ever picked the right exit on th enumerous times I've been here.

Review of The Comedy Store

29 Apr 08, 22:32

Comedy Genius 5*

Brilliant. The cream of comedy talent perform here and you can be guarentee that you will laugh as only the best get to perform on this stage.

If you're used to the usual stand up, then you can check out the improvisation nights which are far more fascinating and funnier knowing that you're watching an organic comedy experience.

Drinks are reasonable (remember you're in the centre of london) and the seats are comfy enough. Just don't ever (And I do mean ever) go to the toilet during an act... they will slaughter you and your friends as well.

Review of Gap

24 Apr 08, 18:25

Seen It all before 2*

If you want to know what Gap have got in store, then just try to remember what was in there 4 years ago. Oxford shirts and chinos… maybe a rugby shirt thrown in as well. It just doesn’t change.

Review of Gap

Gap 2*

Gap is rolling out the same clothes season upon season. They seem to have no idea that times are changing and chinos aren’t the most fashionable thing they can do. The recent expansion of their line of jeans has been a small step on the road to actually changing their normal range on offer

Review of Gap

Gap 2*

I really wish that Gap would do something different. The American preppy look surely has to have moved on across the pond yet we have seen the same clothes for the last 15 years from Gap with very little variation. Time for a change in the company.

Review of Burton Menswear

Fashion 3*

Burton lured me in with their range of retro t shirts (or Tees as they call them) I’m currently permanently in my “Mr Grumpy” t-shirt and hope that people realise that it isn’t irony

Review of Zara

24 Apr 08, 14:32

Spanish Styling in London 4*

Bringing a bit of Spanish culture to London, but not in a straw donkey and sombrero way. Elegant styling available at high street prices, Zara clothes are always nicely cut for the slimmer figure and slightly classier than the standard shops available.

Review of All Saints

22 Apr 08, 16:56

Slim Fit 4*

This certainly isn’t the biggest All Saints store around, but there are some great clothes in here. The cuts of the clothing are for a slimmer frame, which might be good if you need encouragement to stay away from the muffins and got to the gym a bit more. A short hop from Carnaby Street making you feel like you’re a fashion know it all, yet close to the high street comfort of Regent Street

Review of Muji

22 Apr 08, 16:40

Far East Ikea 4*

I’d never stepped into a Muji store before my mate dragged me in there and I can put my hand on my heart that I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like a Japanese Ikea on the ground floor. Boxes, storage, beds, home wares that are all white and look like they are waiting to be sent off to have their colours changed and be branded. Downstairs the clothes are really generic, which was actually kind of funky. Also very reasonably priced too.

Review of Burberry

22 Apr 08, 16:32

Chavtastic 2*

Burberry still lives with the chav stigma and people steer clear of the diahorreah check print that flooded council estates. However some people still love it. If you are one of them then you’ll know about the large flagship store on Regent Street. With Kate Moss as their fashion icon, they are trying to get back high end fashion people…. But then Kate Moss went out with Pete Doherty so her taste isn’t one to be taken seriously

Review of Jones Bootmakers

Well made 4*

My father always told me that if I was ever going to spend a lot of money on clothes, then spend it on shoes. Well made shoes for men and women and you can tell the quality of the craftsmanship. You won’t find the latest trends, but if you buy from there, they’ll last and won’t go out of fashion.

Review of Massimo Dutti

Zara's little sister 4*

Not many people know that it’s part of the Zara brand so everything has a European flavour and is nicely cut for the slimmer figure.

It's spread over 3 floors and has a tailoring service, so if your purchase needs taking in or out they can do that for you.

Review of Sam Greenberg

22 Apr 08, 16:14

Eclectic Retro 4*

Located near Carnaby street, this is a unisex boutique that sells an eclectic mix of clothes. Lots of people will wander past this place never knowing it exists, but the range of clothes is so varied it’s a must see.

If you love retro clothing, you’ll love this Sam Greenberg and I always make a point of going in there, just to see what they have this time.

Review of Banana Republic

Am I in Gap 3*

Imagine stepping getting excited that a new shop was coming to Britain from America and then the crushing realisation that it is essentially a Gap.

No surprise that it's owned by the Gap company and if I'm fair it does have some variation on Gaps chino oxford shirt look that has been the staple of every season since the year dot.

It's the first one in the UK so worth a look so you can see for yourself

Review of Austin Reed

20 Apr 08, 21:30

Too Slow 2*

A wide range of stock in a very big store. According to the seals above the door they outfit for the Queen and Prince Phillip, but I bet they don’t have to queue at the tills. There are around 4-6 tills available on each floor, but they only had 1 working on a Saturday afternoon and they were very very slow. Even when changing floors to see if I could be served quicker it took a long time again for the staff who were in no particular hurry to get through the customers queueing.

Review of Burger King

17 Apr 08, 14:25

Don't be late 3*

The king of burgers or so they say. However they are open late-ish for a burger once the pubs and clubs kick out... however they do have a closing time and if you're too late you're not getting past that bouncer for love nor money... no matter how hungry you are, or if your mate is queuing

So don't be late, or you're off to the pizza place around the corner

Review of Nandos

17 Apr 08, 10:46

Great Chicken 4*

Good example of a chicken restaurant... there aren't many places you can eat for under a tenner in central london.

Check out their website for more details but they've just added Sweet Potato Mash if you like that... however stick with the spicey chips as they're a firm favourite.

Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and the restaurant was nicely laid out in a rustique style

Review of Waxy O'Connor's

16 Apr 08, 22:30

Labyrinth 4*

Massive pub over many levels with lots of nooks to get lost in.

At some point you expect to find David Bowie dressed as the Troll king asking you if you know the power of the voodoo, but it's easy to lose someone in here. Still, it's got character and that's often rare in London, so it's definately worth a look

Review of Strawberry Moons

16 Apr 08, 21:42

Cheese 3*

Cheesiest music in town and even cheesier when the bar was taken over by Tiger Tiger, but kept the Strawberry Moon name.

Not the place to go and show off, but the bar is easymgoing and often the clientele are as well. Can quite often be rammed to the point of discomfort
