Review of The Porterhouse

Huge. 3*

This is possibly the largest 'pub' I have ever been to! At first glance it's fairly impressive - interesting style and always hugely busy. But there's something missing...

Maybe because of its size, or because the bar staff are not particularly personable, I feel it lacks personality. And I feel that there are plenty more characterful places to go to in Covent Garden.

However if you're stuck for a place to take a large gang of people, you could do worse.

Review of National Portrait Gallery

Home of the BP prize and other contemporary greats 4*

I've given this 4 stars rather than 5, despite it being one of my favourite galleries in London. This is because honestly, the majority of the permanent collection bores me.

However, it is home to the BP prize, which always boasts some fabulous work from hugely talented British artists. It also boasts a brilliant contemporary portrait gallery, which displays photos, paintings, and sometimes scultures of popular public figures. This gallery is always evolving with new acquisitions and mini-exhibitions, so every time I go there is something new to see.

Review of Angels

Panic-buying costumes 4*

I have to admit I haven't actually bought anything here, but I think everyone should know about it.

As you can imagine, when a guy needs to get a rabbit outfit, he probably hasn't a clue where to start. In fact, Angels is it. They have a staggering array of costumes, and I believe the shop only houses a small proportion of them. (I have heard that it boasts the largest warehouse of fancy dress in Europe or something...?)

Check out the website too for things to buy. A darth vader outfit for £900, anybody?

However, a moral of this story if that if you need a rabbit outfit quick, you really out to start looking before the day before Easter Sunday, because even Angels will run out of rabbit stuff. I'm currently in the market for a gorilla outfit, and Angels has about 4, differing in price and quality!!

Review of Gordons Wine Bar

Atmospheric 4*

This is such an atmospheric place (a friend of mine said it was 'scary', even), but unfortunately it is becoming so well known it's often very difficult to get a seat in the bar itself.

A major downside which I experienced the other day is the fact that it gets INCREDIBLY hot inside, so it really isn't suitable for the summer.

Review of Belgo Centraal

Great for more than just moules. 5*

I think I was the last person to know about this place but I went there the other day and was hugely impressed.

I wanted to try the infamous moules: mine came with a thai green curry sauce and were perfect. I then had the chicken (all different sorts of sources are available) which was devine.

The place serves a staggaring array of beers.

Best thing about where I live The Green itself, and The Duke on the Green: my local pub.
