Review of Skylon

Nice, but the space deservces better
Anywhere else in London Skylon would easily be getting four if not five stars from me. There is little to complain about when it comes to the food. A well rounded menu and equally strong wine list provide little to complain about. But for me that was just it, it was nothing hugely exciting. Pork belly -check, pumpkin foam or soup -check, seared scallops -you guessed it- check.
Glance over your shoulder however, and you get a vista few cities in the world can compete with.
And therein lies the problem with Skylon, you leave talking about the view and not the food.

A Sam Smiths
Pretty much what you would expect from a Sam Smith's pub but with added benefit of being next door to Trafalgar Square.
I tend to go here before visiting the ICA as the bar there can be full of you know whos and is definitely a lot more expensive.

Fun, Fast and Friendly
I described this place to my friends as Wagamana for Mexican food. I think that sums it up pretty well.
Dinning takes place in large, buzzy basement hall, with eating often taking place in large rows.
Visitors can choose either a couple for things from the 'Street Food' menu, or a from the 'Bigger Plates' section that includes platters and burritos. I went with a pork burrito and a summer vegetable taco. The burrito was fantastic, and while the food isn't going to win culinary awards it's fresh and does wonders for the tastebuds.
If you're in the area and don't fancy Nandos or TGI Fridays then I highly recommend this place. Beware it's popularity. This place has been all over the free papers, and doesn't take bookings. But it's so good I found myself waiting an hour to get a table. Just go to a pub next door.

Fast and Effiecient Maybe, but Good Food?!
I have to disagree with Caitlin. She is spot on about the speed with which you are served; in fact I'd go further to say that the staff were incredibly friendly too. But the food is nothing short of mediocre.
I was expecting something along the lines of a Strada or Pizza Express, and while I don't rate those chains particularly highly either, this place didn't even reach their standards. The portions were huge, far to big for a lunch time, and the tastes lack luster.
If this is the only place you can get a table after the theatre, then maybe, but make that your only criteria.
