Review of Ben Crouchs Tavern

Certificate 12a
I went here a few years ago and it had great novelty value all decked out like Dr Frankenstein's lab and the trip the toilet would be accompanied with the rattling of chainsaws, terrifying death screams and creaking doors!
Went there recently and I'm afraid it'd lost it's charm and the toilet 'sound effects' had been replaced by the standard toilet attendant expecting a tip for passing you the soap!
Basically in movie rating terms, two years ago would have atttacted a solid '18', although it has since been savagely edited for TV and is now a family friendly '12a'

Review of Sandwich Box

What you see is what you get...
I frequent this sandwich place only when I work in Bristol and it is the only available choice unless I am forced to make the journey into town.
It doesn't look like much from the outside and the ladies who serve you would splinter into tiny shards on the floor if they attempted to flash the briefest of smiles, but the rolls are basic with basic fillings, the food hygiene practises are questionable, although I haven't had anything there that has had me sectioned in the toilet for the remainder of the afternoon (although I have just had the seafood mix, so maybe I shouldn't tempt fate!) and it fills the gap...
Based on poor hygiene and lacklustre customer service I can't stretch to more than 2 stars...

Review of The Duke Of Devonshire
24 Apr 08, 08:58
A refurb isn't always a wise move...
This used to be my local. A group of us would head down The Duke (of old) for an evening, then come 9pm we would secretly eye the twitching of the red velvet curtain that was the gateway to "the back room" that would then serve drinks till the early hours.
The back room was dark, filthy and brilliant! It had a cheap pound shop glitter ball hanging from the ceiling, crusty old flickering candles on all of the few tables it housed and they used to play some great music... It also had limited space, so it had a pang of exclusivity if you were lucky enough to gain entry!
Since the refurb, the whole place is open till the early hours and it has definetly lost its charm. It's all modernised and souless...
The only thing it has going for it is a great beer garden, but that's not enough to lure me back...
