Review of Iceland.co.uk

Frightening at times.. 2*

It's not a bad place, mind you. It's just Iceland. Some of the items they have on offer are a little scary looking. The one on Kentish Town Road is decent, I have to say. The staff tries to keep it run peacefully. If you're an egg-eater like I am, you'll find (at times), that many of the eggs have been busted about so you need to dig deep to find a good dozen (but it's only a pound anyways!).

They don't do online orders from here, as far as I know (they seem to be saying this for the past year or two now). I've stopped going there for the most part, unless I'm in a hurry to get some milk or a quick "generic" thing like that.

You'll find what you need in here, I suppose - for a cheap price at that. But as they always say: "You get what you paid for." Don't expect top-notch stuff from here. But then again, M&S isn't much better in some areas...

Review of The EverBest

18 Aug 07, 09:55

"Old Time Versus New Time" 2*

In the photograph shown right now, it is "The EverBest" that was in the past (a while ago). The problem is that it was a heck of a lot better back then too. Nowadays, it's converted into a more "fruit and veggie" type of format. Which isn't all that bad, but that just seems to be something they focus heavily on when you first come into the shop. If things were a bit similar to the past, this would have been a higher review - but this is just kind of silly.

The prices are an arm and a leg (and an eye, if you want to get anything decent). The only thing "The EverBest" really has is convenience. In order to get the collection of things they have indoors, you would have to go to about three other shops around Kentish Town Road. I'm unsure as to why so many shops are starting to charge more for products that other "less public" shops are charging (roughly) half the amount. Regardless, there's very little reason to come here unless you want to get a bunch of things altogether that you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere in one location (and enjoy paying more than normal).

Review of Leighton Food and Wine

A bit overpriced... 2*

I live, literally, right around the corner from this place. When I saw the sign being put up, I was getting a bit excited. And for the first few months, I came to this place nearly religiously (day in and day out). But then things started to change around, prices got jacked up, and my customs moved behind them to the other super-close local shop. I'm a fair bit disappointed in the fact that they asked frequent customers what they wanted - and they got it, but then it ended up vanishing from the face of the earth and then it became more of an off-license than a convenience shop.

The owners and frequent employees there were really nice to begin with - but things have changed apparently. The overall goal has been changed as well. With this said, it's not a bad shop - but most of it is a tad overpriced compared to other shops within walking range of this one. It's just the only one that's out on the main street of Leighton Road (although there's one right up the hill and to the right, on brecknock road). But if you're in a hurry, you can plop in here and mosey on your way without much problem. It's rarely too crowded - but it still gets a nice amount of custom for local folks.

Review of Pizza Hut

Right.. 2*

Pizza is normally considered 'just pizza' to most people; but when it comes to you lukewarm and the side dishes you got were soggy... you kind of wonder about ordering from the same place again. Pizza Hut has never been anything spectacular; but, they end up having appealing deals and discounts going on.

Dissapointed in their website as well; registered to order the pizza but the only 'deal' they didn't have was the one I was looking for. Be careful getting delivery from here, it's like flipping a four-sided coin. Hot, Lukewarm, Soggy, or Late - you have a 1 out of 4 chance of being satisfied. Sounds okay; but some may not want to risk it.

At least they're taking debit cards properly...I guess.

Dislikes The space monkeys that keep landing in the back garden keeping me up at night.
Fave books Ender's Game, The World According to Garp, and Trainspotting.
Fave films The World According to Garp (brillant adaption from the novel, for once!), Trainspotting, 1984, Requiem for Dream, Radio Flyer....
Fave music Green Day (earlier stuff), Semisonic, Fastball...pretty much mid/late 90's stuff.
Last Holiday America? (if you call that a holiday)
Best thing about where I live The local shops, of course! As well as my wife and son.
Worst thing about where I live The several chronic weirdos, and the constant space monkeys coming to attack in my resting stage.
