Easy Now 2*

Whenever i tell people i'm from Nottingham they either make a joke about shottingham or tell me some useless fact about how there are 7 women to every man or something like that. While i think that this 'fact' is slightly exaggerated, if you still want to head to Nottingham to try and get lucky, then you can do worse than make this your first port of call. Sure it's out of town and on an industrial estate, and probably past it's heyday, but it's the locals that make it a very special place.

Whats the point? 2*

What's the point in renting commercial space so small and cramming it with little bits of stationery, but not enough room for people walk around? No ones stationery needs can be so urgent that hyou can't wait to go to a shop where you can move your elbows.

Get lost 2*

I agree with some of the reviews above - everytime i go here i get lost. if i pop to the loo i could spend valuable drinkig time finding my way back to the bar. A decent spot to watch football in, if you like to stand amongst the corwds.

Review of Lloyds Bar - The Crockerton

Loud by night 2*

I can't belive the transormation this place goes through from night to day. it's an ok, average Wetherspoons type place during the day, and much improved since the smoking ban. But at night expect broken glass on the floor, spilt drinks and the odd shove on the dance floor. A shame really.

Review of Tas Restaurant

Turkish Chain 2*

This place is a little soulless for a 'Mediterranean restaurant'. There's a lot of choice on the menu, but the layout had a feel of nando's about it. All the crockery is branded too, a pet peeve. The food arrived really quick - good if you are in a rush but we weren't! It also made us think there's probably just some factory set up in the kitchen to appeal to the lowest common denominator. All the mezze came with an unnecessary salad garnish, while one of our mains came swimming in what tasted like Heinz tomato soup, rather than a tomato sauce. The meat on the shish kebabs didn't seem to be a very good cut either. There was a guitarist, for about half an hour, and probably an attempt to create some kind of atmosphere. Fine for most diners, but if you are stuck next to the musician and the kitchen as we were, then don't expect to hear who ever is sat across the table from you.

Review of Canteen

Crap when crowded 2*

What is it about the southbank in the summer which makes every eatery unable to provide a decent service. After passing the masses of queues out side wagamama's, strada and giraffe we felt a little smug for knowing that Canteen was just around the corner. But we were left to stand for too long while waiting to be seen to, and was then told that we would be waiting over half an hour as the empty tables were all reserved and there was already people waiting at the door. The staff seemed harassed and unable to cope. The seating plan is a little unusual too - you could end up sharing a table with randoms. Fine if you are in a noodle bar where you don;'t expect much from the food, but i was looking forward to tasting this menu. The place was sparsely decorated and noisy - so noisy in fact that it didn't take me long to decide this is not a place i want to dine in, in the evenings. Read other reviews to see what the food is like - i didn't bother to find out.

Review of Village Hotel & Leisure Club

A bit of a wrong 'un 2*

I wouldn't want to stay here - from the front you get a view of an industrial estate and a car park, and from the back a view of a sewage treatment plant. It's far out from the city centre too so expect to part with a few notes if you get a taxi back. However, it's not far enough out to by in rolling beautiful countryside. Nor is it conveniently located for the airport, or businesses. In fact i have now idea who actually chooses to stay here. Lets face it - you're in suburbia. People seem to like getting married here, which is their choice - it's a bit of a bog standard banquet hall. There is a restaurant that we go to now and then for big family do's mainly because theres so mnay of us and the orice is reasonable, and we have low expectations of the place so it's hard for them to get confused if we all go with the carvery. There's nicer hotels, and nicer restaurants near by, so do some research and discover something new and exciting,

Too much laminate 2*

Too many menus all over the place - special of the day, dish of the day, basket meals menu, bar menu etc etc and then there were the blackboards too. Went to the bar to order but had to go into another random room and wait for food to arrive. Pineapple came deep fried but this wasn''t stated on the menu - good job i don't have any food allergies! It's such a shame as it's a really sweet Cotswolds cottage, that could really be something.

Pomp and circumstance 2*

I have to agree with the review above. The place is all pomp and circumstance and will never struggle to get business just because of where it is. However, it could learn a few lessons about service to become a truly world class restaurant.

but have been clubbing mid week. Distinctly underwhelming, sticky dancefloor and serves lambrini in little bottles with a straw in it. Need i say more?

You've been warned 2*

You'll have needed to have drunk an awful lot of blu wkd before wanting to step into this place, even if it was a last resort. 70s music, cheap alcohol and some right states on the dancefloor...you have been warmed!

How long can it take to get change out of the till? 2*

A little bit smelly and very slow at serving you. How long can it take to get change out of the till? Apparently a long time. You don't get many slices of ham for your money either! Lots of choices available at another chain shop nearby.

Disappointing 2*

I was expecting to be able to while away a lazy Sunday evening here but found the atmosphere difficult to relax in and the food a little disappointing. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again. That said it's a good place to spend a summers evening, watching the river go by.

Review of The Ebury

What a shame 2*

I've wandered past here many a time on my shopping expeditions and always wanted to try it. It looks like a fun and funky gastropub from the outside but the dining experience was not what i was expecting. We were handed our menus but it took far too long for anyone to come and take our order. When someone finally came to take our oder we were informed that most of the things we wanted were no longer available. It really bugged me that they hadn't bothered to tell us this when we sat down (nobody had ordered food between us walking in and ordering). In the end i just ordered mains as nothing else really appealed. The place wasn't very busy but it took 3 people to serve one table, rather than 3 people to serve 3 tables. I don't know what we were doing wrong but we weren't the ones getting the service! My meal came without the appropriate accompaniments and was bland and boring. The side order of mashed potato was over pureed and tasteless. Our plates were cleared (eventually) but no one came with the dessert menu. We found it very hard to get anyones attention to ask for the bill - the waitress stood by the bar staring into space. I think this place should decide if it wants to be a restaurant or a bar cos it's failing at both. After the bad food and service i don't think that the restaurant business suits The Ebury.

Review of Gourmet Buffet

Bad Chinese and Bad Singing 2*

You would always have low expectations of an 'all you can eat' chinese, but i really held little hope for this one which also has 2 karaoke rooms attached. The food is bad but there's quite a lot of choice for starters, mains and side orders etc. The karaoke rooms have windows into the main restaurant, so if you are eating you are provided with a bizarre form of entertainment - you can see people singing but are only able to hear them when the door is opened! I suppose we really need a review from a karaoke fan to see what a night out at Gourmet Buffet is like from the other side of the glass!

Sweaty Horse Box 2*

The kind of music they play here is oure cheese a you can expect from anywhere along St Mary's Street.

The clientele are a bit wide boy at the weekends, students during the week.

The place generally turns into a sweaty horse box which induces claustrophobia after a while.

If you are looking for a club which lacks imagination then this is for you.

Too much like a fast food restaurant. 2*

Yeah, i know that's what a fish and chip shop should be like but there's something just a bit too sterile about this place. It creeps me out!

Food comes as meal deals and staff are teens from the local area without an iota of personality.

I know this place has won awards, but something just doesn't sit right with me about this place.

Review of The Manor

Yuk! 2*

I am at a loss to figure out why there are no decent locals near Toton, and why the pubs that do exist have to have plastic paraphernalia stuck to the wall and weird slogans painted here and there. Just give me my beer and atmosphere and a few friendly locals! Don't eat here. Seems like everything comes out of the freezer and into the microwave.

They didn't pay attention! 2*

I went here as it's a stone's throw from work but don't think i will return.

I'm not too fussy about my hair cuts as i have curly hair so it generally always looks a mess! But i do expect the person holding the scissors to at least look at what she is doing, rather than watch the world go by outside!

Seriously - she wasn't paying attention. Which she proved when she cut herself. Having to wait while she found a plaster was not good.

Slumsville 2*

I had my handbag knicked here and found the staff really unhelpful about the whole thing. However, i was unimpressed by the place anyway and am baffled as to why it is so crowded. The toilet can compare with the one from trainspotting. You have to roll your trousers up to stop them getting soaked, and you'll be lucky to find loo roll. The drinks are ok, but i couldn't really enjoy them as i just wanted to get out of there!

Overpriced 2*

Certainly not the best fish or chips i've had, and overpriced for what you get. Should decide if they want to be used for quick eats or dining experiences.
