Go Right! 5*

I went in here to share a bottle of wine with a friend. We made the mistake of going left into the champagne bar. An impressive choice was on offer (some with huge mark ups) but we were surprised by the lack of choice with the wine.

Seems we'd turned the wrong way. On finding a wine lsit in a much nicer area of the restaurant we quickly began to unwind.

Perhaps it was the pianist tinkling away in the corner - Rhapsody In Blue and Indiana Jones theme tune? Awesome!!!

Oh well...at least we'd had a nice tour of the venue, which made us feel very grown up and proper.

I'd love to go back and try the food...and the ladies toilets are out of this world!

Review of Zilli Fish

Fresh Fab Fish 5*

I love fish and trying new fish and there's no better excuse to experiment that when being treated to a meal at Zilli's. Scallops, monkfish, crab - whatever's available will make an appearance on the menu. I think the decor could be updated a little now but if it's summer and the windows are open than it doesn't matter too much! Plus, there always happy to help with your wine selection!

Review of Cucumba

Rough Diamond 3*

I was in desperate need of a leg wax and I thought i'd found a gem when i heard about this place, tucked away on Poland Street.

The price was reasonable (18.50 for half leg) and i didn't need an appointment.

Unfortunately, as mentioned above you get what you pay for.

No talc applied before wax, no hooks to put your clothes on, the beautican stayed in the room and watched me undress, no towel provided for modesty, legs shoved around all over the place, no moisturiser applied before i had to turn over, and when it was all over she started tidying the room and preparing for the next client while i got dressed in the corner!

I've had better results, and more professional waxes.

I was offered a loyalty/bribery card too. Buy ten treatments, get one free.

I like the idea of this place, and am not totally out off. i don't think i'll go back for a wax but i might try a pedicure.

Balans for Brekkie 4*

Went her for a birthday brekkie and had the eggs benedict. Anywhere that can cook this well and save me the hassle gets in my good backs! There was a good variety of things on offer for brekkie fro yoghurt, to waffles to eggs anyway you want 'em. Try and wangle a breakfast meeting here.

Review of The Radisson Edwardian Pastoria Hotel

Chic Boutique 3*

This place has had a refurb and is called the Leicester Square hotel. We ate here recently, and the first thing that struck me was how uncomfortable to chairs were. They really were more the style for drinking than eating. Everything about this restaurant is trying to be classy, from the food, the decor, to the crockery and cutlery. The food was pleasant enough, and the mood relaxing. What i liked about it was how quiet the place is, so i could actually hear the people i was dining with.

Review of Eds Easy Diner

Good burgers, better shakes 3*

The service is ok and the decor predicatable, but eating here is such a non-event, so don't expect a long, luxurious dining experience if you go here. But if you want food in a kitsch American style diner then this is the place. The regular burgers are ok, but i really have to recommend the breakfast burgers. They are so big you'll have to try and persuade your mates to share chips, as a portion to yourself may be too ambitious, especially if you are having one of their thick shakes. I was pleasantly surprised at how blooming gorgeous the peanut butter one is.

Review of New Fook Lam Moon

A waste of time 1*

To be fair. it's difficult to get decent chinese food in Chinatown these days, but this place has really gone down hill.

It's lifeless and soulless.

If you can get the waitress' attention and order your food, don't expect service with a smile! The food was bland and tasteless and the 'sesonal veg' consisted almost solely of bamboo shoots.

There are far too many other Chinese restaurants around (funnily enough) for this to even compete.

More Cheese Please 5*

I love this place for providing me with my precious cheese. I ate a rare morsel of creamy heaven in Paris and have found it in this little Aladdin's cave of dairy goodness. In fact it's in the fridge right now just waiting for me to get home. There are all sorts of cheese in here and the staff know their stuff. Just ask and you shall receive. If you can't decide what to buy there's a few samples available on the counter....yes a counter. This is a proper traditional shop as can only befit Jermyn Street. They also have a good selection of cheese knives etc which make for good gifts. Forget Fortnum and Mason's - go here instead!

A delightful afternoon 4*

Went here at Christmas for afternoon tea and it was one of the best ways i've ever spent a Sunday. Had a drink in the lovely and stylish bar before going in for tea. There was a live pianist which made our time there seem even more special. Sandwiches were twee, and had the crusts cut off and were replenished frequently. The scones, cream and jam were also a delight and i had far too many to fit in the next tier of cakes. These were a bit overly fussy for me but my boyfriend enjoyed the madeleines! Victoria sponge and fruit cake was bought around on a trolley and was very hard to say no to! Good selection of teas, including some from Cornwall - if you wanted to be more adventurous! Get a table by the fire and wile the afternoon away...

Great coffee, great people 4*

I love this place. They kept me going when i used to work overnights. Open until all hours they serve great coffee in a friendly manner. The decor doesn't try to impress but at least it's genuine. Forget your chain coffee houses where they don't know the difference between a latte and a cappucinno - these guys knows their coffee and serves it in an appropriate cup (as opposed to a bucket). They've started putting music on really loud and installed TV's which is a bit off putting but i still like to go on a Monday with a newspaper!
