The best Canadian pub in London 3*

The best Canadian pub in London...actually it's the only one i am aware of. It's not too themed, just a genuine pub for Canadians. Unfortunately this means it doesn't really stand out amongst other pubs in the area.

Get lost 2*

I agree with some of the reviews above - everytime i go here i get lost. if i pop to the loo i could spend valuable drinkig time finding my way back to the bar. A decent spot to watch football in, if you like to stand amongst the corwds.

Review of Lloyds Bar - The Crockerton

Loud by night 2*

I can't belive the transormation this place goes through from night to day. it's an ok, average Wetherspoons type place during the day, and much improved since the smoking ban. But at night expect broken glass on the floor, spilt drinks and the odd shove on the dance floor. A shame really.

Review of The Horniman At Hays

Yes, It's called Horniman 4*

The place is a little underwhelming from the inside, but if you work near London Bridge i'd recommend you go and try it out anyway - especially on a warm evening cos then you can stand outside and take in the lovely view of the river and HMS Belfast. Reasonably priced too, from what i can remember.

Quaint 4*

An eclectic mix of furniture greets you when you walk in - modern high tables and old style booths. Quite an achievement considering how tiny the place is! On a summers eve most people stand outside in the mews and there's a great atmosphere on the cobbles. The staff are so friendly i found it hard to believe i was still in London! And the food looked pretty tempting too. All in all a place of lovely charm that i'd love to go back to.

Too much laminate 2*

Too many menus all over the place - special of the day, dish of the day, basket meals menu, bar menu etc etc and then there were the blackboards too. Went to the bar to order but had to go into another random room and wait for food to arrive. Pineapple came deep fried but this wasn''t stated on the menu - good job i don't have any food allergies! It's such a shame as it's a really sweet Cotswolds cottage, that could really be something.

Stacked full of students 3*

Plenty of room for loads of students in here so gets really busy at the weekends. You're bound to bump into even more people you vaguely know and a few randoms. Plus anyone in there on a fancy dress night out will make your night out even more amusing!

Fight for a seat outside 4*

Fight for a seat outside in the summer and just chillax. You get a bit of a mix of students, young professionals and nearby workers here so it's a bit lively! If you can get hold of a board game and a table then make sure you get settled for the evening!

You've seen one, you've seen 'em all! 3*

Really handy if you need to nip into nearby shops and need a tipple en route, or if you need to get over a hangover. After a few visits you'll know the menu off by heart, but always opt for the screamburger.

Meeting Place 3*

This pub has a really weird layout which makes it a bit awkward to look for someone you might be meeting. Fortunately the place is a local landmark and if you ever say to anyone i'll meet you by the Woody they will know exactly where you mean! Good downstairs bit if your club or society wants to hire it out for a bit of a do!

Love to Loaf 4*

I've been here at the weekends and found it great. Eaten once, and if you don't mind the sports on in the background then it's ok. Beware though - the kitchen is only open at certain times. There's lots of sofas and armchairs for you to relax in - as long as you don;'t mind the rugby which is inevitably on in the background. There's not too many gastro pubs in this little corner of the city, so if you live or find yourself nearby i'd give it a try. You could become addicted!

Does what it should 3*

It's a pub right? In New Cross? What are you expecting? Bare floors, minimum decoration, alcohol on top and a decent sized beer garden, conveniently close to the tube and train station. If you like your pubs without the fuss, try here.

Just a pub 3*

This place has had a refurb and does look better for it. It can still get cramped midweek evenings but attracts a different crowd at the weekend. In the past i've found it far too easy to set up camp on a Sunday afternoon and end up leaving a little worse for wear!

Disappointing 2*

I was expecting to be able to while away a lazy Sunday evening here but found the atmosphere difficult to relax in and the food a little disappointing. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again. That said it's a good place to spend a summers evening, watching the river go by.

Review of The Ebury

14 Apr 08, 17:00

What a shame 2*

I've wandered past here many a time on my shopping expeditions and always wanted to try it. It looks like a fun and funky gastropub from the outside but the dining experience was not what i was expecting. We were handed our menus but it took far too long for anyone to come and take our order. When someone finally came to take our oder we were informed that most of the things we wanted were no longer available. It really bugged me that they hadn't bothered to tell us this when we sat down (nobody had ordered food between us walking in and ordering). In the end i just ordered mains as nothing else really appealed. The place wasn't very busy but it took 3 people to serve one table, rather than 3 people to serve 3 tables. I don't know what we were doing wrong but we weren't the ones getting the service! My meal came without the appropriate accompaniments and was bland and boring. The side order of mashed potato was over pureed and tasteless. Our plates were cleared (eventually) but no one came with the dessert menu. We found it very hard to get anyones attention to ask for the bill - the waitress stood by the bar staring into space. I think this place should decide if it wants to be a restaurant or a bar cos it's failing at both. After the bad food and service i don't think that the restaurant business suits The Ebury.

Review of Scruffy Murphy's

Faded glory 3*

This place was genius for it's deco - kind of posh and cool at the same time, with loads of film posters on the ceiling in the bar.

The range of food on offer is really good and tasty, but really it was the atmosphere that makes it. A really good place to take a whole load of mates and chill together, with waiting staff that make the experience even more relaxing.

Review of The Manor

Yuk! 2*

I am at a loss to figure out why there are no decent locals near Toton, and why the pubs that do exist have to have plastic paraphernalia stuck to the wall and weird slogans painted here and there. Just give me my beer and atmosphere and a few friendly locals! Don't eat here. Seems like everything comes out of the freezer and into the microwave.

Good pub grub 3*

There are enough pubs near to each other in Southwold to not have to stay in one for too long. Unless you want to! Went here for a quick bite on evening. Nothing exceptional but perfect as we had over indulged with Sunday lunch at The Swan Hotel. Serves Adnams beer and Aspall's cider, which is brewed around the corner. Brilliant!

Good after work drinking 3*

The Garrick is good for after work drinking, although i have to admit i'm yet to try the food! Worth giving it a try if you work in the local area.
