Review of Cubana

be transported 4*

Great place for a drink and to get into the latin spirit. In the summer the action spills over into the carpark. The cocktails are great. The place has lots of colour and music, giving it the cuban atmosphere.

Its just round the corner from Waterloo station. I've not eaten there but I've heard its reasonable and the party continues into the night..

Review of Toni and Guy

A rare find, a good stylist 4*

I've been going here for years and love it but only because I've found a really good stylist (hairdresser) here, the kind of guy, who will tell you what will and wont suit you. Great at cutting hair to flatter you face shape.

I wont give his name, 'cas then he'll be booked up for weeks and I'll never get my appointment!!

I've had my hair cut by other stylists at this branch, the cut was fine, but his hands smelled of cigarettes which wasn't so appealing.

As a whole, I'd say its a good salon with lots of fun people, who are good at their job. I also don't feel pressured to buy lots of products, some hairdressers really put the hard sell on.

Review of The Pepper Tree

the key is the timing 4*

The reviews before me are spot on. Good food, no booking and often a busy place so expect queues. The key is in the timing.

The good things about this place. The staff are great at getting you drinks to enjoy whilst you are in the queue waiting for a table. The food is good and reasonably priced. And with the bench seating you'll be able to get close to strangers, not always a bad thing.

The downsides can be the waiting (especially if its not great weather), and sometimes you feel the pressure to eat quickly and rush. The bench seating, is no good for intimate dates.

The food is good, so get the timing right and you're sorted.

Review of Vasco and Pieros Pavilion

Not cheap, but so worth it 5*

Very nice restaurant. The wine list is amazing. We went in a group 8, for a family celebration and couldn't be happier with the food and service.

They made a dish that was not on the menu for one of our party. And decorated a tirimisu, turned down the lights and the restaurant staff (and other dinners) sung happy birthday ! Lovely atmopshere and so friendly with food to die for. It really made it a special evening.

Great place for a date or family celebration.

Review of Strada

Perfectly good, but not out of this world 3*

Strada has a number of branches across london (and I believe the UK). This particular branch has the option for outside seating.

Pizzas are good and a selection of fish & meat dishes make this a good but not amazing place to eat. They often have deals which make the reasonable prices quite enticing.

This place rates much higher than pizza express, and I would go to strada quite happily anyday of the week.

Review of Numero Uno

Good italian food 4*

This place has a very good weekend lunch and dinner trade.

Tables outside on the street enable you to watch the world go by as you much.

Extensive wine list, with quality traditional italian food. Good service.

Only downside is the non itemised bill.

Review of Vitos

not worth the visit 2*

Enticed by the boards outside, we went for lunch. It just wasnt very impressive at all. The food was nothing worth raving and the bill for two people for two course with wine was just not worth a repeat vist. The the food was good I would not have minding the cost.

Give it miss.

Review of The Ship

A goodie, if you can find it ! 3*

The pub and restuarant has so many god points, depending on your priorities I guess.

It is hidden away and a bit of a locals/people in the know pub. Lots of people get a bit lost trying to find it the first time round.

Large out door space, fantastic in the sun and BBQ too. Inside is a lovely pub with a couple of rooms all on one level. The restuarant has some great dishes, meat & fish (only one veggie main option) and most mains are about £15.

Always a good atmosphere, with some plasma screens tastefully arranged in corners.

Nice pub, worth a visit.

Review of Joy

handy location for last minute gifts 3*

Clothing for boys & girls, gifts, cards, novelty items, amusing stocking fillers.

Really good place to pick up a card or gift for someone with a wicked sense of humour. Lots of naughty but nice bits and pieces. Books, pens that when you turn upside down the boy/girls clothes "fall" off.

The clothes are very funky and the prices vary from £14/18 for a vest top to £££ for dresses. They all have tha fashion student feel about them. Sometimes I feel the quality of the item isn't worth the ££. There a a few "Joy" shops around London, but this one being at the station is brilliant for that last minute gift before you jump on the train to the party !

Review of Northcote Road Antiques Market

30 Sep 07, 18:05

a secret tardis 4*

If you love browsing, antiques, modern design, trinkets or furniture this is a great little place.

Its a 12-15min walk from Clapham Junction station, down the end of Northcote Rd. It is much larger than you would expect. With a range of items spread across two floors, and often some furniture items on the street. There is a cafe (and loo) on the top floor.

The window displays are changed regularly, and often themed.

Really nice friendly local people, helpful too. Its a nice place to browse, pick up an unusal gift or for the dedicated antiques shopper.
