Review of Viet

Looking for a GREAT Vietnamese 4*

By chance we ended up at Viet and were very happy. GREAT food. Authentic dishes with no additives. BYO, so grab a bottle of wine on your way.

Very popular place with queues on the evening we went, but a fairly quick table turn over, so the waiting was not long.

Its small and simple, nothing grand with friendly & helpful staff. And at £10-£15 a head very reasonably priced. Will definately be going back.

Not suitable for large groups, or a long-lingering meal.

Review of Chinese Experience

Highly Recommended 5*

A fantastic restuarant on Shaftesbury Ave. We go often and in a large group for Dim Sum on Sunday. The promotions for eating there during the week make it a good place if you are in need of a good feed for minimum spend.

Very popular, with Chinese and people in the know for good quality Szechuan, Cantonese and Peking dishes.

The dumplings are the best I have had anywhere in London. Also lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from. They happily made us at our request us a noodle dish cooked to our taste. No problem at all they said. Shredded turnip cakes (add chilli paste for a good kick), vegetable steamed dumplings, sea spiced aubergine, salt & chilli scallops, Shanghai pork dumplings. - all highly recommended. Our table is usually covered with so many plates & mountains of food, but it all goes down with the chinese tea.

Staff are always polite and helpful, they are great at suggesting new things to try and explaining what the dishes are. They remember their regulars, which is always nice.

Its very modern and clean inside with wall to ceiling glass windows onto the street (good for people watching). There is more seating down stairs in a smaller room, nice for private dinning or a party.

This a great place for a cheap eat.

Review of The Holy Drinker

Good local. 4*

Really good local, its a small bar, but does the job with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Unless you are in early, you will have no chance of finding a seat.

Old cinema seats at the back are a novel touch. Good music too, with projections on drapes adding to the ambience.

In the winter, its great to warm up by the fire and catch up with your mates.

Review of The Eagle Ale House

Proper pub ! 4*

I love this pub. Its like an old mans pub, with dogs wandering round, board games, TV, sofas and a fire. Mixed crowd of young & old locals.

Large outdoor beer garden with tv screen, rugby seems to be a priority. The marquee has plenty of those outdoor heating jobbies, so its nice enough to sit out there in the colder months.

Its just off the Northcote Road, so a 10-15min walk from Clapham Junction. Between wandsworth & clapham commons.

Review of La Pampa Grill

No good for me. 1*

This place has been recommended to me by so many people, I thought I couldn't go wrong. But it was a terrible disappointment.

Had the worst meal ever here. My dinner companion had a miserable steak, cooked well, but SO small. I had a salad which consisted of iceberg lettuce, a tomato cut in quarters, cucumber, a small block of feta cheese coated in salad cream.

The only good thing were the chips & wine. Service was terrible. Guess we went on an 'off' day, but I have no desire to ever go back.

Review of Thai Garden Restaurant

Speedie delivery 4*

This is our usual Thai take-away. The food is good, but it also arrives really quickly !

I do live nearby, but the delivery seems to arrive barely minutes after we have placed the order by phone and put down the receiver. When you are very hungry this is a big bonus, and tips the scales when deciding where to order take-away. (NB. We’ve noticed slightly slower, but still very quick on Friday nights).

The dishes are what you would expect from a decent local Thai restaurant.

If you are actually going to leave your house and eat in the restaurant, you can expect very attentive staff in traditionally dress and a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant is quite large and there are three separate sections, which make it great place for a group, or an intimate meal for two.

Review of London Aquarium

29 Jul 07, 11:14

Touch a sting ray! 4*

I went to Egypt a few months ago, the snorkeling was amazing, so many brightly coloured fish. As the summer here has been so miserable and wet, we decided to go to the aquarium to "re-live" the snorkeling of our holiday.

I've not been to an aquarium before, so cannot compare London to any others. But it was a good laugh. We spend an 1hr 1/2, wandering around looking at the sharks, rays and tropical fish. We posed for a photo which we picked up as a fridge magnet. Bit tacky but had to be done. The best bit was the sting-ray touching pool. A large shallow pool, where you can put your hand into the water and stroke the rays. They are like little tarts, dashing over to your hand to be pet. Reminding me of puppies wanting attention.

Great place for a date. Or to take children. Don't bother buying the brochure, not worth it.

Avoid school holidays, we went on a Sunday which had plenty of tourists and families, but we coped. In the week would be best if you can do it.

Review of Krishna Palace

Maybe my new palace 4*

Great food, great prices, great atmosphere.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The service was brillant, we sat on the terrace to enjoy probably one of the last summer evenings before it turns cold. Although the terrace looks out onto the road, the lighting and planting hid the traffic.

Cannot speak highly enough of the variety of dishes, we did go over board and order lots of different things, but its the only way to get stuck in and try. Sag paneer was a hit as was the green chilli bread. Lovely place for a date.

Will definately be going back.

Review of Gourmet Burger Kitchen

13 Sep 07, 17:07

Yummy burgers, good take-way 3*

Nice local burger bar, with healthy made to order burgers. They are big boy burgers.

Beer by the bottle, milkshakes/soft drinks or selection of wine go down nicely, with your beef, lamb, chicken or veggie burger. There are three veggie options.

One portion of chips is huge and plenty for two (unless you like "man" portions, or are incapable of sharing). Beware the garlic mayo is lethal ! - You will have minial chances of pulling if you go for that.

Seating is limited and you order at the bar, but the best plan is to get take-away on a sunny day and eat on the common !

Nice - but sometimes too busy / and cramped.

TIP - especially when busy, if getting take-away check your order before you leave ( I have been disappointed when I've come home to find I've got the wrong order).

Review of Niksons

Please don't tell anyone.. good little secret 4*

I like this place, not often packed. Good for watching the rugby. Bar snacks are yummy, although bar food portions can be small and disappointing.

I've not checked out the restaurant nor been there for the live music on Sundays. - But am told it’s worth a look in.

Staff are a giggle and service I've always found to be good.

Nice place to take your parents/in-laws for lunch, after work drink, or chill and watch the sport.

Feel like it hasn't been taken over yet. There is a slightly older crowd, and at one point this place was branded a divorcees pick up joint. Perhaps it still is.
