Review of Keiths Food & Wine Bar

13 May 08, 14:41

Cheap & Cosy Institution 3*

If you wonder along Lark Lane you can't miss Keiths, it has everything a community cafe/bar should. Good hearty food, very reasonable bill, worn but loved appearance and friendly busy atmosphere.

Review of Liverpool Football Club

24 Apr 08, 15:11

....with hope in your heart 5*

Liverpool FC is a great British institution, a Rolls Royce of the club football world. They have such an intoxicatingly rich history of success, spirit, values and tragedy it’s almost impossible to summarise. The closest you could get would be to visit to Anfield on a European night, the revered atmosphere orcastrated from the Kop would give you a glimpse of what that extraordinary history involves from those most important in it, the fans. However this great institution is having to evolve, with foreign involvement on and off the field, but like Rolls Royce this will hopefully resolve the mechanics under the bonnet while restoring and enhancing the bodywork of love, respect, style and aura that that history evokes.

.....and you'll never walk alone.

Review of The Gulshan

23 Apr 08, 17:02

Great Reputation, Well Deserved 5*

When I first visited Gulshan it was on a word of mouth recommendation and I was greeted with awards for "Best Indian Restaurant in the North West" on the wall so a certain expectation was set. A big reputation is hard earnt and comes from consistency and that is what Gulshan is all about, they are consistently excellent. They have a large loyal customer base for eat in and takeaway so it always seems busy, however the staff always manage to be personable, friendly and efficient. As for the menu there are no great surprises but that’s not the point, this is like your favourite old baggy woolly jumper, something to slip into when you need to be warmed up with that friendly familiar feeling. Perhaps not the best analogy now they have recently (04/08) finished a complete refurbishment, but you get the idea!

Review of Rasa South Indian Vegetarian Restaurant

23 Apr 08, 16:32

Get out of your curry comfort zone! 5*

I moved from Stoke Newington 3 years ago, after 10 years in 'The Smoke' and I can safely say this is the only restaurant I cannot find a replacement for, but would happily travel back for. I'm also a happy and proud meat eater (I have family in sheep farming) but this restaurant will make you rethink what vegetarian and indian food can be. Rasa is not your typical curry house, so as the other reviews point out, the staples of most menu's up and down the country are missing but that only forces you to try something new and you won't be disappointed. The staff are always friendly and efficient and the ambiance is always filled with the sounds surprised satisfaction. So go on, get out of your curry comfort zone thanks to Rasa.
