Review of Neds Noodle Box

09 Apr 08, 14:18

top takeaway 4*

Surprisingly not over run with tourists... Good varied menu with changing 'specials' including the usual favourites - best bit is being able to choose which noodles you want (egg, rice or udon). There is a small seating area there and they do some good delivery deals and kid's boxes too - prices are about the same as Wagamama.

Review of Masters Super Fish

fish fantastic 4*

Surroundings are pretty basic - but that's not what you go there for...They have the usual pies, burgers etc but it's really all about the fish, which is fried as it is ordered so you know it's not been sitting about in its' own grease sweating on some heated surface for hours. Proper chips, massive portions and really cheap too - definitely worth a visit!

Review of Merry Hill Fish Bar

batter me up 4*

Wolverhampton’s finest fish and chip shop - it’s family run (by the sweetest family) and popular with the locals. You can get all the usuals here - they also do non battered fish (I’m not sure how it works but it just does).

Review of Tinseltown 24 Hour Diner

10 Apr 08, 13:52

milkshakes a must 3*

If you're in Farringdon and needing a feed at crazy o clock, Tinseltown fits the bill. The food is standard American diner and nothing special. The star attractions (besides being open 24 hours) are the milkshakes, most of which are made of random confectionery that you wouldn't normally eat but are somehow acceptable in milkshake form - yum!

Review of The Phoenix

it's ok 3*

The actual pub itself is nice enough - it's nice to just sit around in, with comfy sofas etc. The crowd seems to be slightly older/reserved - we are more often than not the loudest group in there (take from that what you will)... Bar snacks are also quite good, if not all that varied, the sausage rolls seem to be popular... There is a dining space towards the back of the pub and the menu looks decent.

Review of British Airways London Eye

11 Apr 08, 13:05

Once is enough... 3*

…as the novelty wears off pretty quickly. Once inside a capsule, you can’t really feel the movement of the wheel at all and barely notice as you reach the highest point of the rotation (apart from the view). Each individual capsule is large, holding about 20 people with which you get to share the experience with. It takes around forty minutes to get all the way round and the views are good so long as you are lucky with the weather.

Review of Canteen

11 Apr 08, 13:06

simple. I like. 5*

A more spacious version than the original in Spitalfields with cosy seating areas, Canteen offers unfussy and hearty British food. A great place to have breakfast/brunch/dinner with an all day menu (yay!), a different pie (mmm) and roast (also mmm) for each day. Puddings are all old school favourites such as apple crumble and treacle tart (if you have the room). If you’re going for cake try the chocolate and beetroot or the guinness cake. Service can be quite casual but this is a good thing if you are not in a hurry. On a completely random note, the toilets have those new Dyson handryers which are worth the visit alone (honestly).

Review of London Aquarium

11 Apr 08, 13:10

Starfish, sharks and seahorses 4*

Fish – generally not very interesting creatures but somehow still mesmerising… Split over two floors, the London aquarium is a great place for adults and children alike. There’s lots of information dotted about and you can even stroke the (friendly) stingrays at the touching pool (smells a bit though). Wasn’t busy when I went but can imagine it being frustrating at peak times when you might not be able to get close enough for a good look. There are also talks by fish experts and the like throughout the day. The souvenir shop sells hilariously random stuffed cuddly fish toys - perfect.

Review of Paul

14 Apr 08, 13:35

Weakest link in the chain 2*

I have great love for products of Paul – but this branch just doesn’t live up to the standards set by the Covent Garden or Soho branches. Being limited by space (admittedly not their fault), there is not much variety.

The bigger issue is however, on more than one occasion I have had stale pastries from here. The cramped seating and sometimes surly staff also ruin it. Pauls in general are fabulous - just not this one...

Review of Bens Cookies

14 Apr 08, 13:36

cookie perfection 4*

Cookies from here are so so good – a cookie cake hybrid from heaven… Toppings are always big and chunky (so much better than those tiny little pellets of chocolate chips that you get in biscuits) and the best bit is the cookies are always magically still warm when you get them.

They are sold on a weight basis but they do deals for big quantities. Forget about Millie’s Cookies – they are like overly sweet skinny little crisps compared to these!
