Review of Hercules Tavern

Great Honest Boozer 4*

Proper old-skool pub, on the busy Holloway Road - opposite the imposing Odeon Cinema. 3 screens for the football, very cheap beer - you can buy 2 pints of beer/cider and a large glass of wine for about £8. Big pub, lots of chairs so you'll always get a seat. 2 big TVs in the main bar and one massive projection screen on the back wall - though this is often out of focus so rather difficult to watch. There is a pool table in use when there's no footie on the big screen. Bar staff and management are very friendly and become familiar very quickly. There are some great characters who drink here. Its not a pub for a glam night out but good for watching football with mates or just having a quiet pint watching the nutters walk along Holloway Road. This pub will inevitably be 'upgraded' in the next few years so enjoy it while its there. Not everyone's cup of tea but put it this way - you don't need to dress up or bring loads of money to enjoy it. THERE SHOULD BE MORE PUBS LIKE THIS - NOT STUPID 'ALL BAR ONES' etc...

Review of El Molino Tapas Restaurant and Bar

Excellent - a real gem 5*

This is by far the best Spanish restaurant I have been to in London - better than more so-called 'classy' ones in town. The food is really excellent - standard tapas and main courses available - proper home cooking and is reasonably priced. The old favourites - chorizo, spicy potatoes etc. are all here and very good. Meal for 2 - 6 tapas and a bottle of wine around £40. I think it is family run - the 3 generations of staff seem to have a family resemblance but I could be wrong.... The service is very good - quick, attentive, not in-your-face and so far I have had no reason not to leave a generous tip. It is a busy popular place so don't tell anyone else about it!

Review of Millennium Cafe

Good, Honest Cafe 4*

This is the nearest cafe to my flat. which does give it an unfair advantage over others in the area. However the food is fresh, delicious and well served. Standard cafe menu with a few extra meditaranean dishes. Excellent stop-off before going to watch the Arsenal. The mousaka is particularly good, fairly stodgy but good minced lamb, aubergine and white sauce in abundance. I like it with chips - around £4 for the lot - very filling, sorts you right out, especially if you're recovering from a heavy night out. Service is quick and friendly. The cafe is never full, but also never empty. Great value, definitely recommend.
