Review of The Officers Club

Staff could be more helpful 3*

I find it really difficult to buy gifts for guys but when I do have to, I look in this shop as it will give me some ideas. I've only given it 3 stars as the clothes are sometimes a bit over the top or just not enough "plain" or "safe" clothes to buy someone as a gift. Also only 3 stars as I feel the staff aren't always helpful, a lot of the time they are chatting away and don't seem interested in helping customers. Worth a look as you can sometimes find really nice clothes in there and there are bargains to be had in this shop.

Review of Krispy Kreme

Drive thru Krispy Kreme.... 3*

This is a Krispy Kreme restaurant and drive thru which is open until about 2am for all your Krispy Kreme needs! If you "sit-in" you can see the huge machinery that makes these indulgent donuts and see quite roughly how they are made.

At night the car park is full of youngsters who get their drive thru donuts and park up with friends to eat them. If you go for "drive-thru" late at night and lose to closing, they may give you some extra complimentary donuts that haven't sold that day as they make and sell them all fresh on this premises daily.

Nice to "drive-thru" if you are in the area, but not worth a special visit now that Tesco stocks these donuts and they are easily available elsewhere.

Review of Hilton Hotel - Bath

18 Apr 08, 17:22

Good but expected more from a Hilton 3*

Had a really nice stay here but think I expected more from the hotel because it was a Hilton. The rooms were very small but clean and comfortable. The hotel is ideally located - walking distance from the Roman Baths and main shops.

Breakfast was nice and the view from the restaurant is superb, right over the river, make sure you get a table by the window. I thought the evening meal in the restaurant was a bit expensive generally but standard pricing for a hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Overall it is a nice hotel and perfect location but it is a bit old and could do with a refurbishment. I'd definitely stay here again.

Review of Quiznos Subs

18 Apr 08, 13:53

Like Subway... 3*

This is a nice sandwich place - think Subway and you'll know what to expect. Choose your bread, the size of your bread and then your fillings. I think it is a bit pricey for what it is but the subs are good, the service is quite friendly and you could do a lot worse elsewhere.

Review of Pdsa Pet Aid Hospital

Good service for those who are entitled 3*

If you are entitled to use this vets (pensioners, people who qualify for certain benefits) it is a great to have this option as a first port of call rather than paying expensive vet bills. My grandparents bring their cat here as they cannot afford expensive vet fees and here they get seen and leave a discretionary donation for a consultation. Any treatments and operations / procedures must be paid for but at least you have peace of mind with a consultation and can have your pets illness / condition diagnosed.

Review of Cafe Rouge

17 Apr 08, 13:57

Just another cafe... 3*

A lot of people love Cafe Rouge but I am not one of them. It is just another cafe that is overpriced with average menu and average service, nothing special. I don't hate it, but just think that there are nicer places to go. This particular one is either very busy or dead quiet. When it is busy it is really noisey and not the place to be if you want a nice, quiet coffee and cake. When it is quiet, I have been kept waiting such a long time to be served that I have ended up leaving. Just average really.

Nice little cafe for takeaway food 3*

This is a nice little cafe. Food is always very nice and service is fast. It is very small so don't expect to find a seat (not many seats there and usually always taken) so go there with the intention of buying to take away and any seats found will be a bonus.

Review of Bella Italia

Slow service, bland food but the staff are friendly 3*

Very average restaurant. You are always kept waiting ages for food (I've been in there when the restaurant was virtually empty and still had to wait ages), the tables are so close together that you feel you are sitting with the people at the tables next to you and the food is very bland. I've often had very overdone and burnt food served to me here. The only good thing I can think of is that the staff are always very friendly, cheerful and helpful. Don't rush to eat here unless you have plenty of time and like burnt and bland food.

Review of Best Kebab

15 Apr 08, 13:22

Used to be better... 3*

I used to love this place as the food was good, portions big and it was the only kebab place I knew that delivered - they no longer offer a delivery service and the quality of the kebabs has gone down. The past few times I've got takeaway from there the food has been greasey, smaller portions and meat very tough and sinewy. It went from being a very good kebab place that stood out for the nice quality of food to any normal, greasey kebab shop. Haven't been back since.

Review of Japan Centre Foodshop

Cheap sushi 3*

This is a great place to get really cheap sushi, but I haven't been back since my good man was violently sick very shortly after eating sushi from there. I also find the smell of the raw fish quite overpowering and off-putting and as it is so busy you are usually waiting a while to pay so can't nip in and out holding your breath to avoid the smell. Saying this we used to love it here before the "after-sushi illness" episode and I know loads of people who still love it here. After our experience I'd rather pay more money and go to Yo Sushi or Wasabi.

Review of Giraffe

Menu not suitable for all 3*

This is a nice restaurant but the menu won't please everyone as there isn't much plain food on this menu. I've had a superfood salad here which was very nice and also the burgers. I've had to send burgers back for being undercooked and even when asked to be well done they were pink in the middle. We ended up getting birgers charred on the outside but still a bit too pink for comfort inside. Wouldn't rush back again because of this, but wouldn't say no if I was going with friends who really wanted to go there.

Review of Harvester

14 Apr 08, 13:14

Salad bar could be fresher, service a little slow 3*

This Harvester was recently renovated giving the restaurant a much needed clean, lick of paint and new toilets (finally! The old ones were so grotty). You get what you expect, it's just a normal Harvester. The salad bar could be fresher and the cutlery could be cleaner but this could be said of most Harvesters. The staff are usually very friendly and they have to be to keep people happy as you are often waiting a long time for your food to be cooked. Not amazing, not bad, just average.

Fab lamb kofte 3*

This is an ok place to stop and get kebabs if you have the munchies in the middle of the night/on your way home from a night out and don’t know where to go to grab some food, mainly because it is probably one of the only places that it still open and serving food. They also have tables and chairs in the café so you can sit in and eat too. I’ve always had the lamb kofte with lots of chilli sauce and nothing else from this place and have always been very happy, although almost every person I’ve taken there or collected take away for has found some fault with their food (too spicy, too fatty, too tough, too sinewy) which is why I have only given it 3 stars.

Review of IOS Bar & Restaurant

13 Apr 08, 20:19

Slow service, good food 3*

I used to hangout a lot at this place until it became too much of a hangout and it then wasn’t enjoyable unless the place was virtually empty. It is Greek and expect Greek music to be blaring most of the time and Greek music videos playing on the screens around the café, occasionally the odd bit of Greek dancing goes on (on the floor and sometimes on the tables). The Greek singer Sarbell also hangs out here – maybe why it is such a hangout? The service is very slow, it takes ages for the food to be cooked, but once the food does arrive it is nice (maybe a bit over priced for what it is). As it is such a hangout it is so noisy and I have to admit I haven’t been there for over a year because of that. If it is quiet it is so nice to sit there and have a nice, peaceful coffee and some cake. Try the Frappe Avalanche – a Frappe coffee made with vanilla ice cream, fantastic!

Review of Holistic Hair and Beauty

13 Apr 08, 19:49

Quiet salon, nice location 3*

I’ve been here a few times and the staff are nice and pleasant. It is a bit expensive but I guess that’s normal for the area the salon is located in. It is a very quiet salon which is nice as you can relax while your hair is being done. The beauty rooms are nice too and there is a sauna which they recommend you use before having a massage treatment. I always leave lots of tips as in that are I have noticed that people there always go in and pay with plastic and don’t carry cash so never leave tips – the staff are so hard working and make your time there nice and relaxing and deserve a couple of quid extra – I think that because of the area people there have got money to spend and think it’s disgusting they don’t even leave a couple of pounds for the staff. Staff are also very helful in advising on products if you want to buy anything, last time I went I got a gorgeous smelling Aveda shampoo and conditioner.

Review of Man Chui III

13 Apr 08, 17:51

Just average 3*

I know so many people who rave about this restaurant but I don’t rate it that much. It’s always heaving in there which means that if you do get a table it is very loud. The food is nice but nothing extraordinary – I think because everyone I know has said how amazing this place is I was expecting something superb, but I felt let down when I went there because I’d only rate it as average. It’s not very intimate as the tables are so close together you almost feel like you are dining with the people on the tables next to you. You also leave the restaurant stinking of oil from their kitchens which isn’t nice. I only go there if invited by friends or family for a special occasion, otherwise I’d usually give this a miss

Review of Lollipops The Christening Shop

12 Apr 08, 09:19

Almost a Greek Tragedy... 3*

When I Christened my Goddaughter this was the only Greek Christening shop I had heard of so went here as I’d never Christened before and needed someone to be able to tell me if there was anything I’d forgotten or was integral to the Christening. The owner was very rude and pushy, trying to get us to buy the most expensive and ugly (in our opinion) gowns there. She had a lot of stock reduced on sale to clear and make way for the new stuff but kept trying to put us off them and pushing full sale dresses in styles we weren’t interested in. Although it was going to be a traditional Orthodox ceremony, my Goddaughter’s mother told me there were some unnecessary traditional items we didn’t have to buy as they either are no longer useful in the service but the owner kept going on and on because we didn’t want to buy these items from her and that we couldn’t have the service without them and I may as well shouldn’t Christen if I wasn’t going to do it properly! One of the accessories she sold us was broken and she was funny about it when my mum took it back to the shop to exchange and implied that we broke it. Unfortunately she does have everything you need for a Greek Christening and it is convenient that everything is in one place which is why I’ve given it 3 stars, although the customer service should really be 2 stars.

Review of Wagamama

10 Apr 08, 21:11

Just ok, food not consistent 3*

Everyone loves Wagamama but I find it just average, or maybe I'm just over the Wagamama craze. I don't like sharing tables with people I don't know and being worried about my personal belongings on the shelf under the table and always ask for a booth if they are available. The food is ok, but I find that there is never any consistency with portions and spices. Sometimes I get loads of noodles in my ramen, sometimes there's hardly any; sometimes the food is really spicy, other times it tastes quite bland. I don't go there very often now as I never know if my food is going to be plentiful and tasty or smaller portions that don't taste of much.
